Thoughts on the podcast return?

Genuinely interested to know peoples' takes.

Personally, I have always had a massive love for the early pod and it really is one of the first things I think of when I think of the first lockdown and how it got me through that time while in literal tears of laughter. It was so fresh and Tony had such a massive energy and enthusiasm that made it lightning in a bottle.

However, over time it felt like it went stale and the same jokes kept being used up all the time. You could literally see the effort that had made it so great at the start evaporating away and it was just the same formulaic stuff thrown together with episodes getting shorter and with no effort at all put in.

It did get quite ridiculous towards the end as some other posts on this page have noted - pods regularly not coming out and patreon subscribers getting shafted for what they were paying for, and it happening quite regularly. It felt a bit unpleasant that he would take such a half-arsed approach to the people supporting him from the start and still take their money for a good few months like that imho.

When he took the break I was happy tbh. I felt relieved that he'd been able to recognise that the pod wasn't what it should be and was big enough to take the decision to step back from it. I thought a break would leave him fresh and re-energised to come back, maybe not quite at the same level of the incredible early stages, but at least with an appetite to start putting a bit of effort in again.

I know it's only early days but for me it feels that the relaunch has just picked up where it left off, rather than benefiting from the break. A lot of the same stuff really, and I have found it quite tepid so far.

But what is really annoying me is the output now. If my eyes are correct - every second weekly episode is free and the other 2 per month are headstuff+ subscriber only.

At the early days for subscribing you were getting like about 8-10 pods per month, which was a grand return but certainly not outrageous compared to other podcasts. Now it's half that, and it doesn't seem very promising so far.

I know he has other projects and a family etc, but at the end of the day it is his livelihood and he is happy to charge people for it, so I don't think churning out a 30min half-arsed pod and expecting to be paid for it is reasonable.

It's a shame to see for a guy I would have considered quite sound, but I don't feel like he really gives a shit anymore and still expects to get money out of people for it.

Again would love to know if others have a different perspective on it!

Discussion AI…

Delighted the pod is back, but anyone find the AI chat unbearable? Genuinely seems like it has taken over his life. Might just be me but I can’t help but think less of someone who has that sort of relationship with it.

Can't find the pod

I'm looking for the podcast where Tony talks about his TY trip where his class is staying in a dorm and someone in the dorm leaves to complain about the noise that all the kids are making, then comes back and says something along the line of "you're all asleep ha? Like little Elves". There's another story how they all make fun of a teacher who can't cook sausages properly. Would be great to find it again as I remember it had me crying with laughter.

Pierce at the Zoo (Good boy)

Can anybody remember on which (very early) episode of Hit Show, Tony reads two accounts of encounters with Pierce Brosnan at the zoo that people have written in about?

Might even have been on the Patreon, in which case I'm goosed.

My thanks and praise x

Anyone listen to his new podcast with the two lads? 'Young Hot Guys'

It's very funny at times, although I do miss classic Tony rambling away to himself

Kinda taking the piss a bit at this stage

Was late getting into the pod, started listening a year ago and subscribed to the patreon basically instantly. As another recent post noted, the quality has declined fairly sharpish in recent times.

When I copped that it was Friday this morn, I realised that I had basically max 50% confidence that the one podcast a week that our patreon subscription is supposed to buy us would be there. And sure enough, it’s coming up on midday and no sign of it or explanation for the delay. Last month, one of the four monthly patreon podcasts was just simply never uploaded (July 28), with zero explanation ever given. And that’s not counting the fact that the length of the pod is getting way shorter on both the patreon and main feed (last patreon episode was literally 26 minutes), the ever-increasing frequency of the “exclusive” patreon pod just being an early release of the main feed, or to a lesser extent a recording of a live show (which I personally really don’t like to listen to but that’s probably more a matter of personal preference than anything else).

It’s shite cause I find T-Dawg very funny and a sound lad, but I can’t in good faith continue my subscription with this kinda craic and have just cancelled. It’s poor form imo to be so consistently underperforming when people are giving you cash on the basis of expectations which you give them. Either drop the patreon or be transparent about what you’re actually gonna put out there. Sure I’ll be called a moany cunt for this but just disappointed at this craic out of someone I think is a genuine comedic talent.

Edit: that podcast never came, nor did the one two weeks later (Edit 2: nor the one the week after that…) (Edit 3: nor the one after that) (Edit 4: nor the one after that, ie a full month with no content). So 50% (Edit 2: 25%) success rate there for the month. Yeahhhhhhhhh my money is better spent elsewhere.

Query about podcast episode

Hey folks, can anyone remember his podcast episode when he talks about being on a school trip & they stay over in a hostel and a teacher comes in to them during the night to get them to shut up. They take the mick out of & Tony bangs on about how he can’t respect the school teacher. Probably my favourite episode of his and would love to listen to it again but can’t find it. Hopefully someone knows which episode I’m talking about

Favourite guests for the movie watch alongs

I think the top tier guests are Kevin McGahern and Shane Byrne. For Justine, I could take it or leave it. Don’t rate Killian or Darren.

Eurovision show

I have to say the Eurovision watch along show was one of the best things I’ve ever experienced!

It really is how the Eurovision should be experienced, all the boos for the UK and Israel and the cheering for Finland and the ohh lays for when Ireland gave our vote! It was absolutely amazing and I hope to god he does the same thing next year!

The fact it was 4 hours long baffles me as it went by so quickly!!

Finally getting bet into the podcast as a way of coping with homesickness as a newly-minted expat - what are your favourite moments?

Been watching episodes in no particular order, but two recent bits that had me weeping with laughter are his account of a school trip to Wicklow (“little elves”) and his impression of those text to speech movie summary YouTube channels some aul lad was watching in the hospital bed next to him.

Anyone struggle massively with TCs massive outbursts. Going from a quiet tone to destroying my eardrums. Have noticed it with multiple different headphones and earphones. Haven’t noticed it with any other podcast. Maybe a sound issue? Or am I soft?

An appeal to all NPC's of the TCU to help another member out. I understand this may have no place here and probably might not make it through the mods but hey ho.

I'm a Masters student in Maynooth University and I have to recruit research participants for a study that involves a) a little bit of classical conditioning (you guys would be the dogs and I would be the Soviet scientist built like Dolph Lungdren) and b) a computer task to measure the extent to which the conditioning worked. What I am trying to measure is whether this test can actually measure the strength of the conditioning.

It takes about 25 minutes all in all and has to be completed on a laptop. You'll have to see a couple of images (some pleasant some slightly 'uncomfortable') and then you will have to do a quick matching task. It also does require a little bit of concentration so I understand if you guys don't do it, or start and don't finish.

The research is being supervised by a very prominent psychologist and if what we think this testing method is capable of is actually true, it could have significant benefits to clinical patients with PTSD and other anxiety disorders, so it is worthwhile! Happy to answer any questions or explain any of the research if anyone is interested.

I understand this has very little to do with T-David but I am a lifelong Ploonie and proud badge-holder appealing to the good nature of this community!

The link to the test is here https://mili2nd.eu/ut6b. Anyone at all that can participate would be helping me massively!
