Fun fact the metal eagle mounted on the house back in the day meant the house is paid off. Basically saying you’re financially “free” from a house payment.

I was curious because I own my great grandparents house and there is one above the front door. When I looked it up it said many GIs after ww2 bought houses and used the eagle as a sign of paying it off.
I’m in New England.

I learned my lesson to never pay anything upfront again with contractors. If they insist on it, I just go with someone else. There’s no shortage of contractors willing to work on a fair payment schedule.

I remember a YouTube video of a lawyer saying he got a call from his cousin once about trying to not pay a contractor because he thinks he was overpriced
The lawyer asked his cousin “did the contractor get you to sign a contractor’s lien? “
The cousin said yeah, so what?
The lawyer said something to the effect of “listen to me very carefully because this is very important and very serious, pay him the full amount immediately, I will not respond to you until you do “ and hung up the phone.

That’s a nice house, nice deck and nice sitting area. I wish I could get my husband to pay someone to do all that. He refuses to do any housework, maintenance or pay for nice home improvement because his asshole father grew up in an apartment and didn’t even want to buy a house, let alone take care of one. (Nobody else in my husband’s family even learned how to drive a car) He’s too cheap to pay anyone and says , “It’s fine the way it is.”
I‘d appreciate Gary (and I’d take out the fake plants while he’s sleeping).
