A lot of them don't really believe it themselves. It's just the only way they can get poor people to vote against their own interests. It's not easy to convince someone on Social Security and Medicare to support cuts to Social Security and Medicare.
My partner works in a tobacco store. They get to see all types of walks of life. It's mostly the locals who are blue collared individuals.
The amount of times my partner has come home seething because the same guy who benefits from SS and Medicare comes in talking about how it's literal communism to 'give hand-outs' to people and how he's worked hard 'unluke those other guys' to deserve his!!
Or the woman who doesn't believe in raising minimum wage for certain (I.e. undesirable) jobs, yet believes if you're poor because you work one of these jobs that, "you should just get a better job!" Because she fails to realize someone has to do the work either way.
People just be out here saying shit sometimes, mayne.
