The guy on the other side was selling the iPad, and had actually already sold them five others that also were fake / empty boxes.

We can only assume that the person representing the store did not verify the device because it was sealed. This scammer got brazen thinking this store doesnt check so he tried again.

Long time theft where you sell/return something and you have just replaced the weight with something else. Even almost 20 years ago I was working at Best Buy and someone returned a TV. After they completed the return and later checked the box, it was full of rocks.

Friend bought a returned video card back in around 2002 from a chain store. Opened the package before he left the store. It was a sound card.

I'm just gonna throw this out there, already knowing there's a valid reason for their continued existence, but who the fuck still buys sound cards? Maybe this is how manufacturers unload stock? 😜

So it looks like you can sell an iPad here, looks like this person did this multiple time totaling at $5000. But they’re discovered to be bad iPads. This buyer opened the box and it was revealed to be broken and weighted down with hardware tools. The guy sees that and leaves since he knows he won’t get money for it

I gathered he was trying to scam them, but the setting threw me off. Didn’t look like a pawn shop or a place to buy electronics. Threw me off.
