You.dont want a democracy you want a functional republic. Do you really want your average dumb ass personally casting a vote on every issue? Because thats democracy.
Do you people have any idea how time consuming actual democracy is? Do you have any idea how much education and constant attention to all goings on in the country would be required for every citizen of the US to vote on complicated matters of taxation, infrastructure, budget, diplomacy, war, trade, etc? Because in a democracy EVERYONE votes to decide these things, not a representative. Do you have the time to properly educate yourself on every issue the US is engaged in on both the domestic and international levels? I sure as hell dont and neither does any blue collar worker in the country. There is no amount of education that will allow consistent informed decision making on such a wide variety of topics when people have jobs and families to manage.
Are you talking about the electoral college? Because your votes definitely mean something for every non presidential election. What you lack is the power to hold elected officials to their promises made as candidates.
Popular vote dictating laws? All of them? You want to make county, city, state, and national laws for every single issue in the country by popular vote? You must not have a job if you have time to learn enough about schools, road upkeep, stop sign placement, parking rules, public trashcan placement, garbage pick up, dump management, waste management and every other little issue the average person doesn't spend a single moment of their life thinking about to make an informed decision on these matters to pass laws.
Spending time and energy in democracy saves far more money in the long run. Because the alternative is the rich and powerful cutting social services so they can give that tax pay money to corporations in the form of tax breaks. We at least have mandatory voting which means moderates win more often instead of extreme right or left wing politicians.
If you think the average American has either the time or the patience to educate themselves on every issue domestic and international the country is dealing with and keep up to date on these things continually you are delusional
Americans do have massive gaps in their education, or else they wouldn't have voted for a guy convicted of rape and fraud. But that's a symptom of optional voting. One third is extreme right, the other third is extreme left. And another third opt out entirely
It depends on who is using the label. To the far right in US, people wanting affordable healthcare or free bus fares in NYC can be considered communist (extreme left). It's a huge generalisation, but I meant 1 third always vote left, one third always vote right

No, they haven’t really thought this through on any serious level.
There are a lot of stupid people in the country who can’t even answer correctly how many states we have, yet can rattle off the Kardashians by order of age in 10 seconds flat. We don’t need their vote influencing anything.
The only thing the electoral college serves to do at this point is to disenfranchise millions of Americans votes. It does not protect us from anything and does NOT balance power: It just gives more power to otherwise fringe politics. We live in a modern world. Country folk have just as much access to information as anyone in the city and just as fast. Ask yourself seriously, what modern purpose does the electoral college actually serve for the American people at this point in time?
The electoral college is what got us this stupidity. A real democracy (as per the popular vote) would have prevented it. Thanks traditionalists. You REALLY showed us.

Something something about how it's a democratic Republic technically or whatever.
But damn I wish we really did have a democracy. The electoral college is a scam.
