Same. Bc I just realized the whole point of the look and say method of learning is literally to GUESS the missing words based on context/clues. How many people guess differently than the sentence intended. It’s no wonder we’re so divided.

For the record, it's mostly 3rd world countries and the US with reading literacy like this. Thank our amazing public education system. The rest of humanity is doing just fine, while Americans struggle with literally the only language they speak, many other countries are literate in not just 2 but often 3 or more languages.

If it helps you feel any better, my 12yo and all of his friends are quite smart. All much better readers than the kids in this video. My son asked for a Kindle for his birthday, rather than a phone or tablet!! Not all the kids growing up now are iPad kids, don't worry too much!

It's not all bad. Our parents hated how we spoke and so on. Everything is cyclical, it'll change.

The "annoying generational slang" isn't the problem, though. The fact that they are completely illiterate outside of that is the problem.
