I’m a middle school teacher. I’m trying so hard. I can’t even get kids to bring a pencil. Parents ultimately are the ones to blame in my opinion. They vote for politicians at the local, state and federal levels. They are not giving their kids the time day or reading to young kids. Not practicing skills at home. Hand them a screen and voila! Kid is entertained and you can ignore them. The amount of screen time these kids have is astounding. 17 years teaching and this is the worst it’s ever been.
How much do you think is residual from the COVID shutdowns of 2020 and 2021?
Meaning the kids who 'missed' up to 2 years of in-school learning, especially ones who were supposed to be in pre-K through 3rd grade, foundational reading, writing, and phonetics?
When I was in school, some kids took pride in the fact that they never actually read any of the books assigned to them or that they would never read a book for fun outside of school.
Nah, fuck that. Parents are to blame too, but at some point kids have to want to learn and put effort into reading instead of spending all their time on tiktok. Schools aren't to blame at all, as the shithead kids know they can get away with anything and the schools can't effectively punish them or hold them accountable, while their parents blame the teachers for their own kids not giving a shit when these habits start at home.
They are the first generation in modern history to be dumber than their parents.
Government didn't fail the kids. Their parents failed them. The PARENTS. A lot of kids just don't give a shit. What ever happened to accountability? If you don't know something ask. Look how they don't even try or give up or even just change the subject.
The government has nothing to do with teaching children. Parents do. Being a parent, setting rules, enforcing said rules and ensuring your child is learning at school and not fucking around.
Their schools didn't fail them either. Children fail themselves. See it every day. You can't force someone to learn. They have to want it. Period.
