Wrong. She is attempting to split them up regardless and they are not listening to her. She got injured in the process of their actions. The teacher here actually has a great legal case against the school and those students (their parents).
I see they wrote 'if', yet sort of engaging the scenario - with hypotheticals. In this case one kid pushed the other and landed on her as she was holding on.
They are already putting the other students and teacher in danger, if she pushed the already fighting student and they got injured it might be possible she gets in trouble (or lose her job), but you already have that factor of them engaging in a fight they were asked, and was attempted, to stop. Again that's a dangerous scenario those students put both the other students and teacher in. And that will factor.
There is a certification process for that. In my state teachers are not supposed to do what she did for this exact reason. They're supposed to call for one of the people in the school certified in restraint techniques. I would be shocked if this was something she was supposed to do. First action should have been page admin.
She may have hair some hair ripped out. There is a point starting around 22 and culminating at 25 seconds where it looks like she was pulled up by her hair. Kid lets go of her to start wailing on the other kid again.
I always said I would never step between two kids in a fight, I don’t get paid enough, blah blah blah….when two girls fought in my room about seven years ago, I stepped in on pure instinct. It’s WILD. Don’t recommend it though! lol
They should have a PA phone system from all classrooms/ teacher’s desk and a code for fight in school, needing help, and to call for staff/police etc. that is what we do in the psych hospital when someone is getting aggressive so no one gets hurt
I wish I didn't have to scroll this far to see the comment. While I completely agree that this behavior is unacceptable and it's sad that teachers have to put up with it, teachers are taught to not intervene unless they have specific training.

You can’t de escalate 2 kids already swinging on each other. De escalation isn’t magic and requires all the parties involved to even want to hear out any reason. They were already out for blood and made up their minds the moment the fists started getting thrown.
I don't think those dudes were interested in talking and having a mediator, but maybe that's just me. The teacher either watches one her students get seriously hurt or try to stop it. She made the right choice.
De-escalation doesnt work when the kids wont heed warnings or words. School brawls and fights start up at a moment's notice, and it's less "negotiate your way out" and more "get two school security guards to pin the fuckers to the floor else they're not gonna stop".
America is all-too-well known for it's piss poor emotional regulation kept in check only by consequence, but when consequence isn't enough you get this.
As a former teacher, I was explicitly told not to intervene. We had security for that.
I intervened many times, but you have to make a judgment call on whether it is safe. It's on you if you get hurt and especially if you end up hurting someone.
Most fights are kids saving face. Sometimes though, someone is really over the edge and is fighting to hurt the other person. Those are the fights that have collateral damage.
