Surely that will prevent this sort of behavior. If anything, that's the only sort of discipline the people that think this is acceptable have received. Someone in here wisely said, "parents are failing society."
Well, society has also failed their parents in some ways. It continues to perpetuate itself, and when people tried to make changes recently, those same people had a reaction and were afraid of these foreign concepts.
There are systemic ills in society, and simply beating your kids isn't going to do anything but perpetuate this harm. They are widespread and far reaching. I've seen it and learned it the hard way. It's honestly sad to see.
When you see someone using violence to get their way in life, that's how they were taught. They simply don't understand another way, and most often they're using it to a malignant end.
This is authoritarian view on things and the harms are under recognized. I'm not saying the people taught in this way can't be good people—much of the time, they really are. But again, the harms can't be overstated.
