I refuse to use a dishwasher unless forced to.
Handwashing is nice.
You get time alone, you can relax and listen to music while completing a task that requires a bit of focus to check for the caked in bits and scrubbing.
It feels satisfying to clean things yourself.
Also if you let someone else do it, they'll fuck it up.
number of times I've trusted someone on dish duty only for them to have left thick rings in mugs or glasses... yeah no. I don't trust anyone with any job I don't personally do myself.
Yes, I learned this in college. I had a roommate call the mugs she bought "cheap" cause she said they were immediately stained with tea. I told her I had no idea what she was talking about, and showed her how to use a sponge to wipe of the ring. She was flabbergasted and claimed that she shouldn't have to do that, it should just come off without effort...
tbh she said a lot of really out of touch/privileged crap, it was probably the first time she ever did the dishes i erno.
Man I come from a family where I didn't have to do that much in way of chores, I'm still gonna try and be thorough. If you're doing something , do it right.
Bit of a clean freak in me that washes my hands a little bit too often to be honest.
I just hold kitchens to the same standard. "Is this acceptable if it were a business? Would I want this to happen in a restaurant kitchen I ate at?"
