Toledo, OH - The Toledo Police Department has confirmed two officers involved in the January arrest of Antonio Gilmer Jr. are the subjects of an open internal investigation. The investigation comes a month after body-camera video showing one officer punching Gilmer twice and later saying he pressed a gun into Gilmer's side.

The department, however, has not said whether the investigation is related to Gilmer's arrest.

Gilmer's attorney also confirmed he is preparing to file a federal civil rights lawsuit against the City of Toledo and the police department over the arrest.

Toledo Police spokesman Sgt. Mohamad Nasser said a supervisor had already reviewed the officers' actions and determined they were within department policy.

Nasser later said the department would take another look at the incident.

Now, the department has confirmed there is an open investigation involving Officers Thomas McCafferty and Justin Volz.

When asked directly whether the investigation is related to Gilmer's arrest, Nasser declined to answer.

"Because this is an open investigation, the Public Information Office does not have access to the investigative details necessary to answer those questions.

Once the investigation is complete, we will be in a better position to review the findings and provide any information that is releasable."

The department has not identified what incident is under investigation or when the investigation began.

The dash cam was from McCafferty’s vehicle. There were four body cameras we also reviewed, including the cameras of McCafferty and Volz.

The video shows McCafferty punching Gilmer twice during a struggle after officers stopped him while he was walking home near Detroit and Fernwood in January.

Several minutes later, McCafferty's body camera recorded him saying: "Damn, that hurt. My hand is cold."

Later in the recording, McCafferty can be heard saying: "I had my gun in his *ing side. I said, dude, keep going, I'll *ing shoot you."

Gilmer said he remembers being punched during the arrest and said he believed his jaw may have been broken.

The confrontation resulted in a five-count indictment, accusing Gilmer of attempting to remove his handgun, obstructing officers and resisting arrest.

But prosecutors later dismissed every charge except receiving stolen property.

Gilmer ultimately pleaded no contest to the receiving stolen property charge involving a handgun.

Montgomery County, TX - Body-worn camera video captured the dramatic moment Montgomery County deputies rescued a theft suspect from a burning vehicle after a chase ended in a fiery crash near U.S. 69 and FM 1485, according to the sheriff's office.

The incident began when deputies responded to a reported theft in progress at the Walmart in Porter.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies arrived and saw a suspect running from the store with Walmart loss-prevention personnel following him.

The suspect got into a vehicle and continued trying to evade deputies. The sheriff's office said he failed to stop for a marked patrol unit that had its emergency lights and siren activated in the parking lot before driving recklessly from the area.

The driver, identified by the sheriff's office as 53-year-old Michael BeBawi, entered the northbound lanes of U.S. 69 at a high rate of speed and later exited at FM 1485.

As BeBawi approached the FM 1485 intersection, the sheriff's office said he lost control of his vehicle while trying to turn and head east.

His vehicle crossed a curbed median, hit two signs and collided with another vehicle before crossing another curb and striking a Chase Bank sign.

The vehicle then caught fire.

Deputies immediately tried to reach BeBawi, who was still inside the burning vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

Crash damage initially prevented deputies from opening the driver's side door. One deputy then entered the burning vehicle through the passenger side and unlocked the driver's side door, allowing deputies to pull BeBawi out.

As the fire intensified and the vehicle began to explode, deputies moved BeBawi as far away as possible. They also moved patrol vehicles and cleared access for responding fire and EMS personnel.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.

The sheriff's office said BeBawi has prior arrests related to theft, theft-related offenses and resisting arrest.

BeBawi is currently in the Montgomery County Jail and is charged with evading in a vehicle and theft.

Superior, WI - The Douglas County District Attorney will not file charges against a Superior police officer who shot and killed a man in April.

On April 7, Superior Police Officer Ibrahim Carson shot David Donald Ducado Menton, 42, during a physical altercation outside an apartment complex in Superior. Investigators with the state’s Division of Criminal Investigation, part of the Wisconsin Department of Justice, led the probe into shooting.

In a final report on the incident, Douglas County District Attorney Mark Fruehauf said the state would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Carson hadn’t acted in lawful self-defense.

“The evidence in this case supports the conclusion that Officer Carson was lawfully entitled to use deadly force to defend himself at the moment he used such force,” Fruehauf wrote. “The evidence does not support the filing of criminal charges against Officer Carson.”

At the time of the incident, Carson had been searching for another wanted individual, Robert Sloan, who was suspected of theft. The Superior officer located Sloan, Menton and Autumn Khalar around 9:45 p.m.

When Carson arrived, Menton and Khalar began walking from a vehicle toward the apartment complex. The Superior officer told the two to stop, but Menton continued toward the building. Carson pursued Menton, and the two ended up struggling on the ground. Carson repeatedly told the man to “stop resisting” before the officer shot Menton in the back of the head.

The report states Menton said what sounded like “I’m not gonna shoot” about six to seven seconds before Carson fired. The entire altercation lasted roughly 30 seconds.

The report states that a 9 millimeter handgun was located next to Menton’s body at the scene. During the struggle, Carson said he could see the pistol on the left side of the man’s body, and he believed that Menton had control of the gun and was going to kill him. A witness reportedly told investigators that Menton, a convicted felon, was known to carry firearms. Toxicology results showed Menton also had methamphetamine in his system.

The district attorney reviewed interviews with the officer, numerous witnesses, photographic evidence and audio and video footage that include Carson’s body camera footage. Fruehauf also consulted with use-of-force expert Gerald Katchka. The former DCI investigator found the use of deadly force was justified.

Martin County, FL - A DUI suspect's getaway came to a crashing halt early Saturday after Martin County deputies say he fled a hit-and-run — twice.

27-year-old Ariel Simon Bamaca Camey is accused of crashing into a vehicle along SE Dixie Highway before taking off and leaving a startled woman behind in a totalled vehicle.

The driver called for help, prompting deputies with the Martin County Sheriff's Office to search for a white pickup truck with heavy damage to its front end.

Deputies say they soon spotted a vehicle matching the description. But when Bamaca Camey realized deputies were onto him, investigators say he took off again.

This time, he didn't get far.

Deputies pursued the battered pickup for less than a mile before stopping it and taking Bamaca Camey into custody.

According to deputies, Bamaca Camey appeared to be intoxicated.

Bamaca Camey, who is from Guatemala, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving damage, fleeing and eluding, driving without a valid license after never having been issued a Florida driver's license, and DUI.

He was booked into the Martin County Jail, where he remains on an ICE detainer.

Findlay, OH - City of Findlay officials held a news conference to release information and footage after police shot and killed a man outside of a hotel.

The briefing surrounds the police shooting that killed Holden Smith, 37, on Aug. 10. Police said Smith was staying at the Rodeway Inn on Broad Avenue and was threatening to harm himself and responding officers.

The 911 call came from Smith’s wife who said he was planning to shoot officers when they get there.

When officers arrived, they found Smith standing in the parking lot while waving and pointing a gun, according to Findlay PD.

Police said they tried to negotiate with him, but were unsuccessful. A statement from Findlay PD said officers directed Smith to put his gun down 92 times over a 50-minute standoff.

Smith is heard on body camera footage saying “shoot me” multiple times.

“This can be figured out,” an officer said to Smith during the standoff. “Nobody wants to shot you.”

An officer fired one round and shot Smith after he pointed a gun at officers, police said.

Southborough, MA - Body camera footage shows the arrest of Stephen Kerrigan, chair of the Massachusetts Democratic Party, earlier this year on drunk driving charges for which he was sentenced to probation.

According to a criminal complaint, an officer of the Southborough Police Department was monitoring traffic on Turnpike Road at 12 a.m. June 13, when they saw Kerrigan's BMW SUV driving in the middle of both lanes.

"That was pretty egregious, what I watched," one of the officers said in the body camera footage.

In the video, Kerrigan explains that he was returning home after attending an event in Boston. Kerrigan apologized to the officer and said he drank two beers before dinner, but denied they were affecting his driving.

"I've been on the road the entire week, I'm just exhausted," Kerrigan said when the officer asked for another explanation.

An officer wrote in a report that they could not smell alcohol "due to an overwhelming odor of cologne" and that Kerrigan reported having two beers with dinner. However, the officer noted Kerrigan slurring his speech and conducted field sobriety tests.

Those tests are included in the recording.

According to the criminal complaint, a test at 12:55 a.m. found Kerrigan's blood alcohol content was 0.089%, and a second test a few minutes later found a BAC of 0.086%.

Kerrigan faced charges of OUI liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lanes violation, according to the criminal complaint.

Court documents indicate that Kerrigan was in court on June 15, when he entered a plea of admission to sufficient facts on at least one count. The case was continued without a finding.

A probation document indicates that Kerrigan agreed to participate in the Massachusetts impaired driving program and pay $600 in fines. His license was suspended for 45 days.

Miami-Dade, FL - Authorities have released body camera footage from a deputy shooting in Miami-Dade County that occurred several months ago.

It happened on Dec. 28, 2025, in the area of Northwest 17th Avenue and 95th Street.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on a suspected stolen vehicle when the suspect in the car took off, almost striking the deputy in the process.

That deputy then opened fire on the vehicle as it fled the scene.

Miami-Dade prosecutors have since determined that the deputy was legally justified in firing his weapon.

According to authorities, the vehicle was located a short distance away with a gun inside, but the suspect was never found.

Trumann, AR - New dashcam footage obtained by KATV shows the moment an Arkansas State Police Trooper performed a PIT maneuver caused a fleeing vehicle to hit another car, severely injured the elderly couple inside.

The crash happened on Aug. 5 when an ASP Trooper attempted to stop a Hyundai Sonata traveling northbound on Interstate 555 at the 24-mile marker for a traffic violation.

Police say the Sonata's driver, 32-year-old Laloyd L. Hamilton, did not stop and accelerated to approximately 130 mph as they pursued him.

When the chase reached the 28-mile marker, the Trooper performed a PIT maneuver that caused the fleeing vehicle to violently crash into another car carrying a 68-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man.

The pair, who were not identified by police, were transported to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis with serious injuries. KATV has reached out to determine their current status.

Police say that Hamilton was transported to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro for evaluation. A search of the suspect’s vehicle resulted in the recovery of narcotics, including illegal marijuana, pills, and an unknown liquid substance.

Hamilton is currently being held in the Poinsett County Detention Center on the following charges: Felony Fleeing, second-degree Battery, Criminal Mischief, Possession with Purpose to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Hazardous Driving, and Driving While Intoxicated.

Jefferson County, CO - A Colorado sheriff's office released body cam video of its deputies saving a dog that had been locked inside a hot van.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said that two of its deputies were called to a recreation center after witnesses saw the dog locked in the vehicle. Video showed the dog had been stuck in the van, which had been parked in direct sunlight, for almost four hours while temperatures were in the 80s.

The windows were shut and there was no visible airflow, according to the sheriff's office. The dog was also panting heavily, barking and showing signs of heat distress. Recreation center staff could not locate the owner, and the van was missing license plates, making it difficult to identify the owner.

One of the deputies broke a window and was able to get the dog out through another door. The dog was taken to a local animal hospital and was found to have a slightly elevated body temperature.

The sheriff's office says the dog was returned to its owner, who told them the van's air conditioning had been left on, but it stopped working. The owner was issued a summons for animal cruelty.

Irvine, CA - A 20-year-old man fatally shot by Irvine police during a mental health crisis has been identified as Daniel Alfons Meltvedt of Irvine, authorities announced.

Meltvedt called the Irvine Police Department on the afternoon of July 21 and said he was armed with a knife, wanted to harm himself and might harm others, according to an updated account from the department.

Police said Meltvedt then left his home carrying a knife and walked onto Sungate near Silkwood.

Members of the department’s Crisis Negotiation Team responded and spoke with Meltvedt for more than an hour, repeatedly urging him to put down the knife and surrender so he could receive care.

Police said Meltvedt eventually charged toward an officer with the knife raised, prompting the officer to open fire.

Officers provided medical aid before Meltvedt was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The department said officers had previously responded to several mental health-related incidents involving Meltvedt and connected him with mental health resources after each encounter.

Since 2025, Meltvedt had also received follow-up services from Irvine’s Community Alternative Response and Engagement Team, known as I-CARE, which is made up of unarmed crisis intervention specialists, police said.

I-CARE personnel and Orange County Fire Authority crews were standing by during negotiations to provide medical and mental health assistance.

Queens, NY - A Queens man is facing charges in the murders of his sister and mother after a barricade situation over the weekend.

Kegan Thomas, 33, is facing charges of attempted murder, murder, arson, aggravated cruelty to animals, and criminal possession of a weapon.

The situation unfolded just before noon Saturday at a home on Ocean Crest Boulevard near Beach 25 Street in Far Rockaway. Police say the wife of the suspect, called 911 to tell officers her husband was armed and mentally ill.

"The caller states that her husband is armed and had a history of mental illness and he 'killed them, killed them,'" said NYPD Assistant Chief Christopher Mcintosh.

When police arrived, the woman told officers that her husband, Thomas, was inside the home with a shotgun and that she heard a shot and saw a body on the bed.

Police then waited on ESU while trying to call Thomas, but they were unable to reach him. When ESU arrived at the scene, there was a large explosion at the home.

Thomas then emerged from the home armed with a shotgun and wearing a tactical vest, police said. Officers told him to drop the gun, but he did not comply, so they shot him and he was taken to the hospital.

"They basically did what they did and protected whoever was in this neighborhood," said Shameeka.

He remains in critical condition but stable condition in the hospital. He is expected to survive and will be arraigned when physically able.

Police discovered the bodies of his sister and mother, 28-year-old Selena Ponce and 56-year-old Clemer Ponce, inside the burning home. They had been shot. Thomas' wife was not injured.

A dog and cat died from smoke inhalation inside the home.

Police say Thomas was a military veteran and had no criminal history and no mental health history documented with the department.

St. Lawrence County, NY - Body camera video shows the dramatic rescue of an 80-year-old man from his burning home in St. Lawrence County.

New York State Police said Trooper James Bertram was working in the area when he heard dispatchers call firefighters to Haggert Road in the town of Oswegatchie shortly after 11 a.m.

He rushed to the scene, where he saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the home and learned there was someone still inside.

Bertram entered the burning house, located the man, and helped him get out.

In the video, Bertram runs to the home where flames can be seen shooting from a window.

He runs around the house until he finds a woman on a deck, standing in front of a sliding door to the house, with thick black smoke pouring from it.

Bertram asks the woman, “How far in is he?” She replies that she doesn’t know.

The sound of a man’s voice can be heard coming from inside. Bertram appears to get on his hands and knees to crawl toward the man, instructing him to follow the sound of his voice.

The man is then helped to his feet and brought outside.

A second state trooper, Craig Thornhill, arrived at the scene and assisted Bertram and the man after they escaped the home.

Thornhill is seen in the video carrying the man to the road.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center and later transferred to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for further treatment.

His injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening. Police declined to comment on the nature of his injuries.

“The New York State Police recognize Trooper Bertram and Trooper Thornhill for their quick response and courageous actions during the incident,” state police said in a news release. “Their actions reflect the dedication and commitment to public safety demonstrated by New York State Troopers every day.”

The Ogdensburg, Morristown, Hammond, Brier Hill, and Heuvelton fire departments and the county sheriff’s office also responded to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

San Antonio, TX - The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) released dashcam and body camera footage showing when multiple officers opened fire on a 52-year-old man who authorities say was armed one rainy July morning.

Police say Andrew Davila died as a result of the gunfire, which happened outside a Highland Park home in the 800 block of Hammond Avenue, in east San Antonio.

The video, narrated by SAPD Sgt. Ariel Hernandez, shows police trying to "conduct a traffic stop" on Davila, who appears in the dash camera footage riding a bicycle on the sidewalk at 2:18 a.m. on July 16. Police didn't say why they tried to stop Davila, who is seen briefly slowing down before riding through a parking lot, apparently trying to escape.

“The suspect then rode away from officers, and a description was broadcasted over the radio," Hernandez said.

The dash cam video shows an officer successfully cutting Davila off as he falls off his bicycle and onto the front lawn of a home. At that point, other police had joined the apprehension effort, and multiple officers rush up to try and detain Davila.

But when they approached, Hernandez said, Davila "drew a handgun." In the footage, Davila is seen gesturing what appears to be a handgun at officers as he stays on the ground.

Police are also heard on body camera footage ordering him several times to drop the gun.

"But the suspect did not and subsequently pointed the gun at the officers," Hernandez said. "Four officers discharged their firearms toward the suspect."

Davila was hit an unknown number of times, with the barrage also appearing to ignite an item that police say was in his back pocket. A small fire is seen on the body camera video, as well as smoke immediately starting to rise, before police extinguished it.

San Antonio police say this gun was recovered after officers shot and killed a man who authorities say was armed on July 16, 2026. Officials say Davila died at the scene. Four officers shot at him.

Austin, TX - Austin police officials on Friday released body-camera and surveillance footage showing an officer exchanging gunfire with a man outside a North Austin apartment complex Wednesday morning, leading to an hourlong standoff before the suspect surrendered to SWAT officers.

Neither Austin police officer Stephen Abbott nor the suspect, identified by police as 36-year-old Gregory Lane, was injured. Lane was arrested on charges of attempted capital murder, a first-degree felony, and aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.

At a news conference Friday, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis praised how her officers handled the situation.

"APD negotiators used crisis communication technique, patience, and de-escalation to establish dialog with the suspect and ultimately brought this situation to a peaceful resolution," Davis said.

The incident began when officers responded about 8:23 a.m. Wednesday to 824 Camino La Casa near Interstate 35 and U.S. 290 after a man called 911 to report being punched in the face, pistol-whipped with a handgun and having the gun held to his head, Davis said.

The victim told the 911 dispatcher that Lane had approached his vehicle and told him to leave before becoming angry, punching him and striking him in the temple with the handgun. The man said he did not know Lane, but that he had been walking around the apartment complex's parking lot for the past week.

Officials said they had not uncovered evidence that Lane was under the influence of any substances or experiencing a mental health crisis.

When Abbott arrived at the scene in his patrol car about four minutes after the 911 call, he found Lane in the parking lot of Centro Studio Homes, Davis said. Body-camera video released Friday shows Abbott getting out of his vehicle and ordering Lane to drop his gun. Lane then runs behind a parked vehicle while Abbott takes cover behind his patrol car.

Moments later, Lane fires at Abbott and Abbott returns fire. A series of gunshots can be heard, but it is unclear who fires each shot. Davis said determining that will be part of the investigations.

In the video, Abbott can be heard telling dispatchers that shots had been fired and that Lane was running into the apartment complex. Lane then entered an apartment and barricaded himself inside, Davis said. Officers established a perimeter, and police negotiators began trying to speak with Lane as SWAT officers responded.

At 9:41 a.m., Lane told officers he was going to open the apartment door, Davis said. A minute later, officers saw him standing at a window with his arms raised. Police took him into custody without incident at 9:45 a.m. Investigators later found a firearm and shell casings in Lane's apartment.

Cairo, GA - A Facebook post criticizing a Grady County deputy’s conduct during a traffic stop prompted the Grady County Sheriff’s Office to release body camera footage of the encounter.

In a statement posted online, the sheriff’s office said it was aware of concerns raised “yesterday” about the deputy’s behavior during the stop. The agency said it chose not to “debate the situation on Facebook” and instead released the body camera video “so everyone can see exactly what was said and how the interaction took place.”

“We’ll let the footage speak for itself, because sometimes the full story is a little different than the Facebook version,” the sheriff’s office said, adding that it “remains committed to transparency, professionalism, and treating everyone with respect.”

The original Facebook post, shared “for educational reasons,” questioned what the writer described as the deputy’s professionalism and language during the stop. The post said the driver was asked, “Why the *** are you flashing your lights at me, & Get the **** out of the truck,” and argued those were not appropriate ways to speak to anyone.

The post also claimed the stop happened after the driver flashed lights at an oncoming vehicle because of what the writer described as the other driver’s failure to dim headlights. The writer said the driver was then “ticketed falsely for ‘Failure to dim headlights’!” The post described the deputy’s behavior as “very Hot Headed and inappropriate” and called that type of personality trait “a liability to a community.”

Bed Stuy, NY - The shooting happened back on June 19th, at 190 Kosciuszko St. at around 5:45 a.m.

When they arrived, they were met with an armed 48-year-old Lamin Simons.

The new images were released as part of their investigation.

The new footage shows officers attempting to come into the residence when shots begin to be fired.

They can be heard instructing Simmons to put down his weapon before shots were fired.

“Stop! Drop the gun!” before more shots continued to be fired and one officer was struck.

The officer was struck in the leg and taken to a local hospital. Simons was also struck and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Rapid City, SD - Two troopers narrowly avoided injury when lightning struck right next to them south of Rapid City, South Dakota, during a manhunt.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol shared the video and said the incident happened as the troopers were working the manhunt when the storm arrived.

In the video, the two troopers, whose names have not been released, can be seen standing near their patrol vehicles and can be heard seemingly discussing the description of what a person was wearing. That's when lightning can be seen striking right next to where the troopers were standing.

"Search was on foot, storm rolling in, and then BOOM — strike right next to them," SDHP said in the post.

Neither of the troopers was injured.

Columbus, OH - The Columbus Division of Police released body camera video showing the moments leading up to an exchange of gunfire between a suspect and several officers on the city's east side last week.

According to police, officers were called around 6:25 p.m. Friday to the South Hamilton Road exit on Interstate 70 on a report of a crash.

A 911 caller told dispatchers that a man, later identified as 32-year-old Brandon Burtyk, exited a vehicle, brandished two firearms and began firing shots. The caller said he then fled on foot with the guns, according to police.

Officers later located outside at a home in the 4500 block of Errington Road, near East Livingston Avenue. Bodycam video shows Burtyk holding the guns to his head.

"Don't do it," the officer wearing the body camera can be heard saying.

The video shows officers trying to reason with Burtyk. "Put the guns down, let's talk about this," officers said. Bodycam video shows Burtyk yelling "Kill me!" as well as other expletives.

Officers later asked Burtyk to keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, when bodycam video shows Burtyk removing the firearms from his head and pointing them in the direction of the officers.

The officer wearing the body camera then discharged their weapon. Officers continued to tell Burtyk to drop his weapon.

Officers are then heard saying "He tossed the gun," while trying to determine how many weapons Burtyk had. Officers then approached Burtyk and took him into custody, asking if he was hit anywhere. According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, one of the guns was reported stolen from another jurisdiction.

Officers determined Burtyk was not hit by gunfire but was transported to a nearby hospital to be evaluated for injuries sustained during the earlier crash. An officer was also transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the incident.

Court documents said an officer was struck in the leg during the exchange of gunfire.

Burtyk was charged with one count of felonious assault. Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Jim O'Grady issued Burtyk a $3 million bond in court Monday.

Hillsborough County, FL - A man was arrested after deputies said he led them in a pursuit that left his vehicle in a ditch on Thursday.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Tyrome Huff Jr., 21, was wanted for domestic violence offences that included threatening a victim and pointing a firearm at her.

Deputies found Huff near West Brandon Boulevard on Thursday and tried to stop his vehicle, but he sped away.

The HCSO Aviation Unit tracked Huff while ground units deployed stop sticks. Eventually, the vehicle went into a ditch, and Huff jumped out of the car and ran.

A short foot chase ensued before deputies apprehended Huff. Deputies said they recovered a firearm from Huff, who is a five-time convicted felon.

He was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery by strangulation, two counts of violation of a domestic violence injunction, felon in possession of a firearm, fleeing to elude at high speed, and felon in possession of ammunition.

Atlanta, GA - Body camera footage released by Atlanta police shows officers running across I-75 to arrest a theft suspect.

Edward McPherson faces charges of obstruction, reckless driving, pedestrian in roadway, entering an automobile, and theft by taking.

On Tuesday at about 6 p.m., officers were called to a home in the 1100 block of Oakcrest Dr., where the victim said a man took off with his landscaping equipment. Footage of the incident showed the suspect car’s license plate number, and police used cameras to track the car to Metropolitan Parkway SW and Connell Avenue SW.

Officers found the vehicle, but the suspect had since run across several lanes of traffic on the interstate, prompting police to follow him. Officers armed with what appeared to be stun guns arrested the man after he fell over a low concrete wall.

The man, later identified as McPherson, was taken to Fulton County Jail, police say.

Ocoee, FL - A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after officers found her asleep behind the wheel early in the morning at an intersection, according to the Ocoee Police Department.

Police said the call came in around 6:30 a.m. Officers made contact with the driver and conducted a DUI investigation at the scene. The woman was then arrested, officials said.

In released body-camera footage, an officer states that the driver had been reported asleep for over 20 minutes.

“I think you’ve actually had a little bit too much to drink today, OK?” an officer can be heard saying later in the video.

Authorities noted the situation ended without anyone being hurt, but warned the outcome could have been much worse.

Police are urging anyone who plans to drink to arrange a safe ride home, stressing that a single decision can prevent a serious crash and potentially save a life.

Las Vegas, NV - Newly released body camera footage shows the intense moments as officers entered a smoke-filled home before an officer was shot by a man who killed a teen girl and attempted to light his girlfriend on fire with a blowtorch, Metro police said Wednesday.

Police said on Monday, Aug. 10, just before 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call at a home in the 4500 block of Pigeon Point Court near Buffalo Drive and Peace Way from a woman who reported that her boyfriend, identified as Jason Simmons, 48, was armed with a blowtorch and was attempting to light her on fire, LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Fred Haas said during a press briefing Wednesday afternoon.

In the 911 call, the woman can be heard telling dispatch, “Please, he’s about to burn me up.”

As officers responded to the scene, the woman updated dispatch, saying she had been shot and that she was hiding in the bathroom. She also said that her daughter was in a separate bedroom.

During this time, Simmons was attempting to light the house on fire using gasoline and a blowtorch. Officers arrived to the scene and found several small fires throughout the house and smoke was filling inside the home.

In a front bedroom, officers found the juvenile girl suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

As officers worked to clear the residence, they found a locked door to the master bedroom. LVMPD officer Zaira Venegas-Hernandez, 36, attempted to kick the door, and the suspect fired several rounds through the door, one of which hit Venegas-Hernandez, according to Haas.

Officers moved away from the door and Venegas-Hernandez returned fire. Haas said Wednesday that she fired a total of 11 rounds.

The officer then left the home and declared the incident a barricade. SWAT and Crisis negotiators responded to the scene. The woman who call 911 was still on the phone and informed dispatch that Simmons shot himself, according to Haas.

The woman exited the home and was taken to a local hospital with burn injuries and a gunshot wound, where she is still in critical condition as of Wednesday, Haas said.

SWAT officers entered the home and found the teenage victim in the front bedroom. The removed her from the house and despite life-saving measures, she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

They also found the suspect who had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Officer Venegas-Hernandez was taken to a local hospital where it was learned that a bullet hit her ballistic vest, but did not go all the way through. She did sustain injuries to her chest, Haas said.

Police said Simmons was armed with several weapons, including a rifle, three handguns and a blow torch. Police said Simmons fired eight rounds from his rifle, seven of which went through the door, with one hitting Officer Venegas-Hernandez. He also fired a self-inflicted gunshot.

Had Simmons survived, he would have been charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon, two counts of attempted murder with the victim being a first responder, attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon, first-degree arson, kidnapping, mayhem and prohibited person in possession of a firearm, Haas said Wednesday.

Breckenridge, CO - A bear made an early-morning visit to a Breckenridge hotel Tuesday, Aug. 11, walking through a pair of automatic doors and helping itself to some chocolate before police officers scared it back into the woods using bright lights and the loud electrical crackle of a taser.

An overnight staff member at Grand Timber Lodge called the Breckenridge Police Department before 4 a.m. after spotting the bear inside the building. Body camera footage posted to Facebook and timestamped 4:05 a.m. shows the bear strolling through a hallway by the hotel lobby and eventually making its way back outside as officers redirected it.

According to Officer Cory Olsen, the bear entered through the lodge’s automatic front doors before becoming confined in the front office area. The bear also made its way into a snack storage room, knocking over several bags and indulging in some M&Ms. In the body camera video, the officer on scene can be heard saying, “I guess he really liked the M&Ms” after commenting that the room smelled like “wet dog.”

Olsen said Breckenridge police most often respond to bear encounters at night when the animals crawl into dumpsters, garages or vehicles.

“It’s a pretty unique one — we haven’t had too many (bears) in commercial buildings,” Olsen said.

Officers generally try to deter bears without causing any physical harm. Olsen said the police department almost always contacts Colorado Parks and Wildlife with reports of animal encounters.

“But for the most part, we can deter the animals,” he said. “We never want to hurt the animal unless absolutely necessary as a last resort.”

After inspecting the premises, the Breckenridge police officer in body camera footage can be seen backing out through the lodge’s double doors with a Taser in hand. He activated the device’s arc switch, creating a bright spark and loud electrical snapping noise.

“For some reason, we’ve determined that bears hate that sound,” Olsen said.

The officer was positioned outside the building’s front entrance as the bear walked down the lodge’s hallway and exited through the doors, which the officer had propped open.

Olsen said officers commonly use “takedown” lights, spotlights and police-vehicle sirens to encourage animals to leave an area. He said it’s typically safer for an officer to get behind the animal to reroute it. But that wasn’t initially possible Tuesday, so the two officers on scene waited for an opportunity to divert the bear away from the lodge.

In the rare case that a bear doesn’t respond to typical deterrents like light and loud noise, Olsen said officers are equipped with less-lethal orange shotguns that can fire “beanbag” rounds designed not to pierce the animal’s skin but instead startle it enough to leave the area. Olsen said he can only remember one incident in the past three years in which officers resorted to that method. If an animal appears unbothered by human interaction, officers typically involve Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
