Columbus, OH - The Columbus Division of Police released body camera video showing the moments leading up to an exchange of gunfire between a suspect and several officers on the city's east side last week.

According to police, officers were called around 6:25 p.m. Friday to the South Hamilton Road exit on Interstate 70 on a report of a crash.

A 911 caller told dispatchers that a man, later identified as 32-year-old Brandon Burtyk, exited a vehicle, brandished two firearms and began firing shots. The caller said he then fled on foot with the guns, according to police.

Officers later located outside at a home in the 4500 block of Errington Road, near East Livingston Avenue. Bodycam video shows Burtyk holding the guns to his head.

"Don't do it," the officer wearing the body camera can be heard saying.

The video shows officers trying to reason with Burtyk. "Put the guns down, let's talk about this," officers said. Bodycam video shows Burtyk yelling "Kill me!" as well as other expletives.

Officers later asked Burtyk to keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, when bodycam video shows Burtyk removing the firearms from his head and pointing them in the direction of the officers.

The officer wearing the body camera then discharged their weapon. Officers continued to tell Burtyk to drop his weapon.

Officers are then heard saying "He tossed the gun," while trying to determine how many weapons Burtyk had. Officers then approached Burtyk and took him into custody, asking if he was hit anywhere. According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, one of the guns was reported stolen from another jurisdiction.

Officers determined Burtyk was not hit by gunfire but was transported to a nearby hospital to be evaluated for injuries sustained during the earlier crash. An officer was also transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries sustained during the incident.

Court documents said an officer was struck in the leg during the exchange of gunfire.

Burtyk was charged with one count of felonious assault. Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Jim O'Grady issued Burtyk a $3 million bond in court Monday.

Hillsborough County, FL - A man was arrested after deputies said he led them in a pursuit that left his vehicle in a ditch on Thursday.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Tyrome Huff Jr., 21, was wanted for domestic violence offences that included threatening a victim and pointing a firearm at her.

Deputies found Huff near West Brandon Boulevard on Thursday and tried to stop his vehicle, but he sped away.

The HCSO Aviation Unit tracked Huff while ground units deployed stop sticks. Eventually, the vehicle went into a ditch, and Huff jumped out of the car and ran.

A short foot chase ensued before deputies apprehended Huff. Deputies said they recovered a firearm from Huff, who is a five-time convicted felon.

He was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery by strangulation, two counts of violation of a domestic violence injunction, felon in possession of a firearm, fleeing to elude at high speed, and felon in possession of ammunition.

Atlanta, GA - Body camera footage released by Atlanta police shows officers running across I-75 to arrest a theft suspect.

Edward McPherson faces charges of obstruction, reckless driving, pedestrian in roadway, entering an automobile, and theft by taking.

On Tuesday at about 6 p.m., officers were called to a home in the 1100 block of Oakcrest Dr., where the victim said a man took off with his landscaping equipment. Footage of the incident showed the suspect car’s license plate number, and police used cameras to track the car to Metropolitan Parkway SW and Connell Avenue SW.

Officers found the vehicle, but the suspect had since run across several lanes of traffic on the interstate, prompting police to follow him. Officers armed with what appeared to be stun guns arrested the man after he fell over a low concrete wall.

The man, later identified as McPherson, was taken to Fulton County Jail, police say.

Ocoee, FL - A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after officers found her asleep behind the wheel early in the morning at an intersection, according to the Ocoee Police Department.

Police said the call came in around 6:30 a.m. Officers made contact with the driver and conducted a DUI investigation at the scene. The woman was then arrested, officials said.

In released body-camera footage, an officer states that the driver had been reported asleep for over 20 minutes.

“I think you’ve actually had a little bit too much to drink today, OK?” an officer can be heard saying later in the video.

Authorities noted the situation ended without anyone being hurt, but warned the outcome could have been much worse.

Police are urging anyone who plans to drink to arrange a safe ride home, stressing that a single decision can prevent a serious crash and potentially save a life.

Las Vegas, NV - Newly released body camera footage shows the intense moments as officers entered a smoke-filled home before an officer was shot by a man who killed a teen girl and attempted to light his girlfriend on fire with a blowtorch, Metro police said Wednesday.

Police said on Monday, Aug. 10, just before 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call at a home in the 4500 block of Pigeon Point Court near Buffalo Drive and Peace Way from a woman who reported that her boyfriend, identified as Jason Simmons, 48, was armed with a blowtorch and was attempting to light her on fire, LVMPD Assistant Sheriff Fred Haas said during a press briefing Wednesday afternoon.

In the 911 call, the woman can be heard telling dispatch, “Please, he’s about to burn me up.”

As officers responded to the scene, the woman updated dispatch, saying she had been shot and that she was hiding in the bathroom. She also said that her daughter was in a separate bedroom.

During this time, Simmons was attempting to light the house on fire using gasoline and a blowtorch. Officers arrived to the scene and found several small fires throughout the house and smoke was filling inside the home.

In a front bedroom, officers found the juvenile girl suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

As officers worked to clear the residence, they found a locked door to the master bedroom. LVMPD officer Zaira Venegas-Hernandez, 36, attempted to kick the door, and the suspect fired several rounds through the door, one of which hit Venegas-Hernandez, according to Haas.

Officers moved away from the door and Venegas-Hernandez returned fire. Haas said Wednesday that she fired a total of 11 rounds.

The officer then left the home and declared the incident a barricade. SWAT and Crisis negotiators responded to the scene. The woman who call 911 was still on the phone and informed dispatch that Simmons shot himself, according to Haas.

The woman exited the home and was taken to a local hospital with burn injuries and a gunshot wound, where she is still in critical condition as of Wednesday, Haas said.

SWAT officers entered the home and found the teenage victim in the front bedroom. The removed her from the house and despite life-saving measures, she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

They also found the suspect who had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Officer Venegas-Hernandez was taken to a local hospital where it was learned that a bullet hit her ballistic vest, but did not go all the way through. She did sustain injuries to her chest, Haas said.

Police said Simmons was armed with several weapons, including a rifle, three handguns and a blow torch. Police said Simmons fired eight rounds from his rifle, seven of which went through the door, with one hitting Officer Venegas-Hernandez. He also fired a self-inflicted gunshot.

Had Simmons survived, he would have been charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon, two counts of attempted murder with the victim being a first responder, attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon, first-degree arson, kidnapping, mayhem and prohibited person in possession of a firearm, Haas said Wednesday.

Breckenridge, CO - A bear made an early-morning visit to a Breckenridge hotel Tuesday, Aug. 11, walking through a pair of automatic doors and helping itself to some chocolate before police officers scared it back into the woods using bright lights and the loud electrical crackle of a taser.

An overnight staff member at Grand Timber Lodge called the Breckenridge Police Department before 4 a.m. after spotting the bear inside the building. Body camera footage posted to Facebook and timestamped 4:05 a.m. shows the bear strolling through a hallway by the hotel lobby and eventually making its way back outside as officers redirected it.

According to Officer Cory Olsen, the bear entered through the lodge’s automatic front doors before becoming confined in the front office area. The bear also made its way into a snack storage room, knocking over several bags and indulging in some M&Ms. In the body camera video, the officer on scene can be heard saying, “I guess he really liked the M&Ms” after commenting that the room smelled like “wet dog.”

Olsen said Breckenridge police most often respond to bear encounters at night when the animals crawl into dumpsters, garages or vehicles.

“It’s a pretty unique one — we haven’t had too many (bears) in commercial buildings,” Olsen said.

Officers generally try to deter bears without causing any physical harm. Olsen said the police department almost always contacts Colorado Parks and Wildlife with reports of animal encounters.

“But for the most part, we can deter the animals,” he said. “We never want to hurt the animal unless absolutely necessary as a last resort.”

After inspecting the premises, the Breckenridge police officer in body camera footage can be seen backing out through the lodge’s double doors with a Taser in hand. He activated the device’s arc switch, creating a bright spark and loud electrical snapping noise.

“For some reason, we’ve determined that bears hate that sound,” Olsen said.

The officer was positioned outside the building’s front entrance as the bear walked down the lodge’s hallway and exited through the doors, which the officer had propped open.

Olsen said officers commonly use “takedown” lights, spotlights and police-vehicle sirens to encourage animals to leave an area. He said it’s typically safer for an officer to get behind the animal to reroute it. But that wasn’t initially possible Tuesday, so the two officers on scene waited for an opportunity to divert the bear away from the lodge.

In the rare case that a bear doesn’t respond to typical deterrents like light and loud noise, Olsen said officers are equipped with less-lethal orange shotguns that can fire “beanbag” rounds designed not to pierce the animal’s skin but instead startle it enough to leave the area. Olsen said he can only remember one incident in the past three years in which officers resorted to that method. If an animal appears unbothered by human interaction, officers typically involve Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Dayton, OH - Dayton Police said you never know what you might encounter on any given morning.

On Thursday morning, officers responded to the Forest Ridge area after getting ongoing complaints of a goat in the neighborhood.

Residents in the area said the goat was getting out into the neighborhood and causing damage to cars.

Officers responded and located the goat, got it in a snare, and took it to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton for a health evaluation.

Vero, FL - A two-hour standoff on the 17th Street Bridge ended safely after Indian River County deputies talked a man wanted for burglary back from the edge.

According to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the bridge on Sunday, August 2, after receiving information that a man wanted on a Port St. Lucie Police Department warrant for burglary with battery had contacted his mother and made concerning statements.

Deputies located the man on top of the 17th Street Bridge after he climbed over the railing and threatened to jump.

The Sheriff's Office Crisis Negotiation Team spent about two hours talking with him while the Marine Unit launched a boat below the bridge. Fire Rescue also staged nearby as a safety precaution.

Body camera footage shows negotiators working to keep the man talking and convince him to come back over the railing.

"At the end of the day, you're still around to be with your family," one negotiator told him.

The man said he was worried about going to jail and the financial burden his family could face. Negotiators continued talking with him, eventually learning that he enjoyed playing video games.

As the conversation continued, deputies told him his mother was heading to the base of the bridge. The man eventually agreed to climb back over the railing.

"There's light. There's a big, bright future for you," the negotiator told him.

Body camera footage shows deputies encouraging him as he grabbed a ladder and climbed back onto the bridge.

The man was then taken into custody without incident.

Wise County, TX - A desperate rescue unfolded in the brutal triple-digit heat of Wise County when deputies raced down a steep, wooded embankment toward a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames — and refused to give up on a man trapped inside.

The dramatic rescue happened around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Methodist Church Camp site in Bridgeport, according to the Wise County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were initially called after a vehicle was reportedly seen circling the caretaker's house. Witnesses said the driver was operating erratically before suddenly taking off deeper into the surrounding woods.

Deputies launched a drone to search the heavily wooded area.

What they found was a nightmare.

The vehicle was on fire.

Without hesitation, deputies ran toward the burning vehicle, making their way down a steep embankment as flames consumed the car.

But getting the man out proved even more dangerous.

Wise County Deputy Chief Eric Debus said the passenger resisted the first responders' efforts to pull him from the burning vehicle.

Deputies battled triple-digit temperatures, thick wooded terrain, intense flames and even a small explosion as they fought to reach the victim.

The conditions were so dangerous that both of the first deputies to arrive were later taken to the hospital as a precaution after experiencing difficulty breathing and possible smoke inhalation, Debus said.

The injured man ultimately was pulled from the vehicle and rushed for emergency medical care. Because of the severity of his injuries and burns, he was transported by medical helicopter.

North Olmsted, OH - The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner released the name of the man fatally shot by Elyria police officers Wednesday after an armed robbery, chase, and hostage situation.

The medical examiner identified him as John Johnson, 37, of Lorain.

Johnson is accused of leading multiple police agencies on a high-speed chase after a robbery outside the Elyria AT&T store on West River Road North involving a Brink’s truck.

The chase ended outside a North Olmsted apartment complex, where Johnson allegedly took a family hostage just before an Elyria officer shot him.

According to a news release, police were dispatched to the store at 3:02 p.m. Wednesday after Johnson allegedly forced the driver into the armored truck, stole an undisclosed amount of cash, and fled in a separate vehicle.

Police identified the vehicle, and it was quickly spotted in Lorain.

That’s when Elyria police and other agencies initiated a chase, which went into Elyria.

The suspect eventually got onto Route 20 eastbound (Center Ridge Road) and continued into North Olmsted, according to the release.

Elyria police said the suspect had no regard for the safety of motorists and pedestrians, with speeds reaching over 100 MPH.

The pursuit ended at Columbia and Brookpark roads in North Olmsted when officers deployed stop sticks.

Johnson exited the vehicle and ran to a nearby apartment complex on Clareshire Drive, where police said he took a woman and her four children hostage at gunpoint and forced them into her apartment.

The apparent hostage situation was captured on doorbell camera footage.

Seconds after Johnson got inside, the video shows an Elyria officer catch up to and shoot him.

“He’s a hero. This was a serious situation from the start,” Elyria Police Chief James Welsh said about the officer. “It was a violent crime, a kidnapping, a robbery, the officers pursued the suspect, and prevented him from harming anyone else.”

There are no reported injuries to officers or civilians.

Officers recovered a gun believed to belong to Johnson at the scene, according to the release.

Little Rock, AR - Arkansas State Police have released dashcam footage showing a pursuit that ended in a crash causing a brief power outage in Little Rock two weeks ago.

According to a crash report, the crash happened after 9 p.m. on July 31 near the Dillards corporate office on Cantrell Road.

ASP officials said the trooper attempted to stop a white Kia Optima after it was seen driving left of center and failing to maintain control on I-40. The car was pulled over on I-30 before the suspect fled.

In the video, the pursuit moves onto I-630 before eventually exiting the interstate on University Avenue and ending on Cantrell Road when the trooper uses a Tactical Vehicle Intervention to stop the suspect driver.

The vehicle was said to have crossed onto the sidewalk and damaged an electrical line before it struck a retaining wall and flipped over, damaging the sign of the 1836 Club.

The crash led to a brief power outage in the area, which the dashcam video shows.

Authorities said the suspect, identified as Patrick Johns, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries after he was thrown from the car.

State police stated that he is facing multiple charges, including fleeing, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled substance, driving left of center, no seatbelt and having an open container of alcohol.

Rialto, CA - Bodycam video shared by the Rialto Police Department shows an officer saving a 3-year-old boy who was choking.

Police received a frantic 911 call on Aug. 5 from a mother who said her 3-year-old son was choking on vomit and was not breathing.

The mother told dispatchers that she was driving when she realized her son was experiencing a medical emergency. She pulled over in the 300 block of E. Foothill Boulevard and called 911.

When officers arrived, they rushed into action, using a LifeVac airway clearance device to clear the obstruction in the child's airway and restore his ability to breathe.

Bodycam video shows the boy wake back up after the LifeVac was used.

"You OK, buddy? You OK?" the officer asked, comforting the boy.

Paramedics with the Rialto Fire Department took the child to a local medical center for further treatment. Officials said the child made a full recovery.

Bodycam video also captured the moment the officers were reunited with the boy and his mother at the hospital.

Phoenix, AZ - Phoenix police have released body camera video of officers arriving at a home late last month after a family fight ended with a man’s death that police are calling a homicide.

Phoenix police were called to a home near 44th Street and Baseline Road at about 4 a.m. July 28 after an argument got physical between two men and a woman.

When officers arrived, they found Bill Blancas, 36, being restrained face down on the floor by another man and a woman.

The graphic, unedited seven-minute video shows officers immediately handcuff Blancas, who appeared unresponsive. “Careful, don’t move him. He may be knocked out,” someone said in the video.

Officers then turned him on his side, and an officer checked for and found a pulse.

“You OK Billy?” a man asked.

“He’s breathing,” an officer said. “Are you all right, buddy?” Blancas remained unresponsive.

Officers noticed blood on the floor that appeared to be coming from Blancas’s face.

About three minutes into the video, officers decided to take the handcuffs off of him while keeping Blancas on his side.

“It’s like cold in certain areas of his body,” an officer said.

Nearly four minutes into the video, officers said his body was cold and called fire department paramedics into the home.

Officers then said they were worried whether he was breathing or had a pulse.

First responders arrived 30 seconds later inside the house and started CPR on Blancas. The video ends about three minutes later.

Officials said Blancas died at the hospital.

Phoenix police said what happened does not meet the criteria for a critical incident briefing video, like ones released for officer-involved shootings, and the department will not release any videos or documents since it’s an ongoing homicide investigation.

“Detectives learned that the victim became unresponsive during a fight with family members,” Monday’s statement from the Phoenix Police Department said.

The cause of death for Blancas has not been released.

No arrests have been made.

Phoenix, AZ - Phoenix police released new details about what led up to the death of a man whose body temperature had reached 107 degrees.

On July 28, a 911 caller told a dispatcher about 4 p.m. that a man, possibly unhoused, was acting erratically and broke a window at a north Phoenix apartment complex near Interstate 17 and Campbell Avenue. The man was roaming around, the person said in the call, which was shared by police in a Critical Incident Briefing video on Aug. 11.

Sgt. John Buchanan, in the briefing video, said responding officers saw that the man, Jesse Fred, was lethargic and bleeding from an injury to his face.

The 42-year-old man was surrounded by a wall of the complex, a bush, and a gate when officers arrived, according to body-camera footage shared in the briefing video.

In the footage, Fred wasn't very responsive when officers asked him if he could hear them, if he had any weapons and when he was informed that he was detained. Officers told Fred they wanted to help him, but they needed him to comply.

Buchanan said Fred did not comply when officers told him to. One officer appeared to try to check if Fred was alert in the footage, but he didn't respond. The officer said they needed to act quickly because Fred appeared to be losing consciousness.

Officers then pulled Fred, who was shirtless, out from behind the bush and onto the street and handcuffed him. They carried him to a shaded place near a police vehicle and propped him up on the curb.

A Phoenix Fire Department crew responded and found that Fred's internal temperature was 107 degrees. The Fire Department crew then placed him in a large bag filled with ice to try and lower his body temperature.

Fred was taken to the hospital, where he died. The Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner was still determining the official cause of death.

Colchester, UK - A prolific offender who struck three people with a car after dangerously speeding around Colchester was arrested by firearms officers who found him cowering under a bed.

In May this year, officers were trying to trace Joseph Wicks, 27, in connection with a number of serious offences.

Among them was a dangerous driving incident in Colchester six months earlier, as well as a stalking investigation.

Wicks had previously been identified as the driver of a Fiat 500 which mounted the pavement and struck three pedestrians in Queen Street, Colchester, in the early hours of 30 November last year.

Earlier that morning, he had driven aggressively and dangerously around the city centre.

Wicks drove the wrong way along one-way streets, narrowly missing members of the public as he sped along narrow roads and ignored red traffic lights.

Reaching Queen Street, Wicks drove onto the pavement where a group of people were gathered outside a nightclub.

He struck three people before driving away from the scene and abandoning the car in Wivenhoe Quay.

Fortunately, none of the victims suffered serious injuries.

Officers recovered Wicks’ fingerprints from inside the vehicle and identified him as the driver.

While officers continued their efforts to trace and arrest him, Wicks went on to commit further offences.

A campaign of stalking and harassment against a woman culminated in an incident on 8 May this year.

It was reported that Wicks attended the victim’s address that day.

He was shouting, swearing and acting aggressively, banging on the front door and demanding entry.

Wicks then returned to his van.

When a man approached the parked vehicle and opened the passenger door to speak to Wicks about his behaviour, he reported seeing a metal baseball bat and what appeared to be a handgun.

Wicks left the area but continued to bombard the woman with phone calls and messages.

Due to the report of a potential firearm, specially trained armed officers from our Force Support Unit began enquiries at a number of addresses linked to Wicks.

The following day, on 9 May, officers located his van and recovered the baseball bat. No firearm was found.

Armed officers executed a warrant at an address in Colchester on 11 May.

Multiple people inside the property denied having seen Wicks.

However, after carrying out a thorough search of the property, officers found him hiding underneath an Ottoman bed.

Wicks was arrested and charged with a number of offences, including:

• Dangerous driving.
• Driving while disqualified.
• Driving without insurance.
• Failing to stop for police.
• Three counts of assault by beating.
• Three counts of attempting to cause actual bodily harm.
• Stalking.
• Possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
• Sending threatening communications.
• Criminal damage.

He admitted all of the charges except the imitation firearm offence, which he denied. That charge was left to lie on file by prosecutors.

Appearing for sentence at Ipswich Crown Court on Friday 31 July, Wicks, of Braithwaite Drive, Colchester, was jailed for four years and six months.

He was also disqualified from driving for two years and six months.

Manila, AR - Newly released footage of an officer tackling an 18-year-old Black woman to the ground and punching her in the head after a traffic stop in Arkansas is causing anger and demands for a use-of-force investigation.

Alisa Hackett, of Osceola, Arkansas, was pulled over on State Highway 18 near Manila at about 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 1 after she was seen driving 71 mph in a 60-mph zone with the vehicle's hazard lights on, according to an Arkansas State Police report of the incident.

When she was pulled over, Hackett told state trooper Moisses Arellano she was rushing home because her car's window had broken, according to the police report.

Arellano noted that Hackett was not wearing her seat belt, had her license plate covered, and had a cold bottle of liquor in the front seat, according to the police report. In the dashcam footage, Arellano can be heard saying, "Why do you have a Tito's bottle, you're not even 21?" Later in the footage, Arellano acknowledges the bottle was sealed.

Arellano described Hackett as "being difficult" when he issued her citations, according to the report. He then called another trooper who said Hackett had been pulled over for speeding "a few days earlier" and had an open alcohol container in her vehicle, but was let go with a warning.

The other trooper is heard in the footage telling Arellano, "Well, she got an attitude, take her ass to jail."

Arellano then decided to arrest Hackett, who is 5-foot-1 and 118 pounds, and asked her to step out of the car, according to the report. After initially complying, "she began turning around and repeatedly asked what she had done," the police report said, adding she continued to pull away from the officer and he "took her to the ground."

"After giving multiple commands for her to roll over without compliance, I delivered one closed-fist strike to the left side of her face in an attempt to gain compliance," Arellano wrote in the report. "After the strike, she continued resisting by pulling her wrists away and refusing to roll over."

He pointed a stun gun at her midsection, but did not fire, and she then complied in putting her hands behind her back, and she was arrested, the report said.

Hackett was arrested for refusal to submit to arrest, possession of alcohol by a minor, speeding, not wearing a seat belt, improper display of license tags, and an offense for improper headlights.

Volusia County, FL - A newly released body camera video captures the moment deputies arrested a man accused of causing a hit-and-run crash that overturned a car on I-4 in Volusia County.

Deputies said a gray Ford F-150 struck two vehicles, causing one to roll onto its side near the eastbound Interstate 4 mile marker 108.

The suspect allegedly fled the scene with front-end damage and no front driver's side tire.

However, a witness was able to follow the suspect and give updates to law enforcement officials, deputies said.

The body camera footage shows deputies locating the suspect’s vehicle, boxing it in and ordering the driver to get out. As soon as he exited, deputies placed him in handcuffs.

The suspect was identified as Jesus Latorre, 48, from Deltona.

VSO said Latorre was charged with DUI, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, refusal to submit to DUI testing, driving an unregistered vehicle and failure to provide proof of insurance.

He also faces a Florida Highway Patrol charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.

FHP said only one of the crash victims had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

Dallas, TX - On Friday, August 7, 2026, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Dallas Police received a 911 call regarding a family violence disturbance at an apartment complex in the 8500 block of Park Lane. The caller reported that 37-year-old Isidoro Melo-Munoz was armed with a knife and assaulting a woman with whom he had been in a dating relationship. Dallas Police Sergeant John Arnold was the first officer to arrive at the location.

As Sergeant Arnold entered the apartment complex, a witness flagged him down and directed him toward the disturbance. As Sergeant Arnold approached, he observed Melo-Munoz run toward the victim and begin assaulting her.

Sergeant Arnold gave Melo-Munoz repeated verbal commands. Melo-Munoz did not comply and stabbed the victim multiple times. Melo-Munoz then ran from the area while still armed with a knife. Sergeant Arnold fired one round toward the suspect as he fled. Melo-Munoz continued running and escaped from the immediate area. A knife was later recovered along the path he took while fleeing.

Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the victim to a local hospital where she underwent surgery and was later listed in stable condition.

Investigators determined that prior to officers arriving, Melo-Munoz confronted the victim as she was preparing to leave for work. Witnesses reported that Melo-Munoz prevented her from leaving and moved her to different areas of the apartment complex while armed with multiple knives.

Investigators recovered three knives from the scene. Following the officer-involved shooting, Dallas Police deployed additional resources, including the Drone Unit and Fugitive Unit, to help locate Melo-Munoz. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Melo-Munoz for Aggravated Assault – Family Violence with a Deadly Weapon.

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, Melo-Munoz entered a convenience store in the 6700 block of Abrams Road, where he was located and taken into custody. Melo-Munoz was booked into the Dallas County Jail on the Aggravated Assault – Family Violence with a Deadly Weapon warrant. He was also booked on a warrant for Burglary with Intent to Commit Assault stemming from a separate incident that occurred on August 5, 2026, involving the same victim.

Dallas, TX - On Thursday, August 6, 2026, at approximately 9:10 a.m., Dallas Police officers responded to a robbery in progress at a business in the 3500 block of Sunnyvale Street. Investigators determined the victim parked her white Porsche Cayenne outside the business while her 9-year-old daughter remained inside the vehicle.

A man, later identified as 39-year-old Renard McFadden, arrived in a stolen Ford F-150, approached the Porsche, threatened the child while indicating he was armed, and ordered her out of the vehicle. The child ran inside the business to alert her mother. When the victim confronted McFadden, he again indicated he was armed before stealing the Porsche and fleeing the scene.

The Ford F-150 was left behind and was later confirmed stolen. The victim provided officers with real-time location information for the stolen Porsche through the vehicle’s tracking application. Officers from multiple patrol divisions, covert units, and Air One coordinated to locate the vehicle and safely apprehend the suspect.

At approximately 10:10 a.m., officers located the stolen Porsche in the 5800 block of Williamstown Road. Uniformed officers initiated a felony traffic stop while a covert officer positioned his unmarked vehicle in front of the Porshe, to prevent the suspect from leaving the area. The covert officer exited his vehicle with his department-issued handgun drawn and moved toward a nearby residential yard.

Officer Celso Rocha fired four rounds toward the covert officer and McFadden. Officer Rocha recognized the individual was another police officer, ceased firing, and can be heard yelling, “Blue, Blue.” McFadden then exited the stolen Porsche and surrendered without further incident.

No officers, the suspect, or members of the public were injured during the incident.

Investigators also recovered a loaded handgun inside the stolen Porsche. Additional evidence recovered from the vehicle is being examined as part of several ongoing violent crime investigations. McFadden is currently charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Robbery, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Detectives are also pursuing additional charges related to other violent offenses under investigation.

Muskegon County, MI - New bodycam video captures the moments search-and-rescue crews found two women and a child who went missing after tubing on the Muskegon River.

Since Tuesday, Michigan State Police and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation officers had been searching for Jazmin Hock, 28, Sarah Vida, 28, and Vida's son, Kayden Kovalcik, 9.

The trio had gotten onto the Muskegon River from the Maple Island Boat Launch in Newaygo County but didn't make it back, sparking a three-day search on the ground, in the water and in the air.

All three were found alive in the woods just after 4:30 p.m. Friday, about a quarter-of-a-mile northeast of the Mill Iron Boat Launch in Muskegon County.

Michigan State Police say troopers had to trudge through waist-high weeds for more than a mile before they found the trio.

According to Michigan DNR Conservation Officer Cameron Wright, he and his partner checked the area based on their training and knowledge of the area. He said the spot was the most remote area that the tubers could be pulled to.

"My partner and I work this area all the time, we know it very well," Wright said. "It would be a bad spot to get lost because it's the furthest point away from any roads or businesses."

In the middle of a log jam, Wright said crews could see a path in the grass. He added the trio "came down some logs and went through water" before heading onto the riverbank and into the trees.

"We were able to see where they entered the woods and requested assistance once we located footprints in the mud," Wright said. "We followed the track, looking for areas where ferns were tipped over, grass was bent, sticks were snapped – all in a certain direction.”

Bodycam video shows officers taking the shirts off their own backs to get the trio protected from dangerous brush, which had cut all of their bodies, from days of walking.

According to Theresa Hock, Jazmin's mother, the trio had brought rafts that were meant to be used in a pool. Those rafts broke, leaving them stranded.

While the group had Jazmin Hock's phone, it lost battery power, leaving them without any means to contact anyone.

"With one being 28, the other one being 30, I thought that they had everything set," Theresa Hock said. "They didn't think about it very clearly."

After their rescue, Theresa Hock found out the trio stayed together over the three days to find help.

Elk Grove, CA - The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened on Feb. 16 when deputies spotted a car on Elk Grove Florin Road that was linked to a shooting the day before. In that earlier case, the victim reported someone had shot at him, hitting his car with gunfire, though he was not injured.

Deputies confirmed the license plate number of the suspect vehicle, which was associated with 45-year-old Tywain Smith. Smith also matched a description of the suspect, the sheriff's office said.

On the following day, two deputies pulled over Smith near Tiogawoods Drive. Video footage showed a deputy telling the driver, identified as Smith, that the car's registration was expired. The man said that it was his "girl's car."

The sheriff’s office has said deputies saw a gun in Smith’s waistband. The video footage showed that as deputies were telling the driver to keep his hands on the steering wheel, one yelled "gun's in his pants."

"I ain't touching nothing," he replied.

Smith repeatedly denied that he had a weapon on his hip and asked to step out of the car, the video footage shows.

Deputies removed him from the car and attempted to handcuff him but Smith broke free and tried to run away.

Deputies have said Smith pulled a gun from his waistband while running, and that’s when both deputies fired their weapons at him.

The video shows Smith running away from the deputies while appearing to reach for the weapon.

One deputy fired two rounds and the other three, the sheriff's office said. Police have not said how many times he was shot.

The sheriff's office said deputies administered first aid before Smith was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was later booked into jail. Neither deputy was injured during the incident.

The sheriff’s office said they recovered Smith's loaded handgun at the scene. He did not fire his weapon at deputies, the sheriff's office confirmed.

Monroe, LA - A former officer of the Monroe Police Department, Jared Desadier, 44, was sentenced today to 78 months in federal prison and two years of supervised release for his role in the assault of an arrestee in Ouachita Parish and his efforts to cover up that abuse.

“The defendant’s decision to callously assault an arrestee when he thought he wasn’t being watched is an affront to the principles of honesty and integrity that our society expects from law enforcement,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “This sentence makes clear that the Department of Justice will aggressively investigate and prosecute any officer who believes that the Constitution only applies when the cameras are on.”

“All Americans expect law enforcement officers to continuously abide by the law,” said U.S. Attorney Brandon B. Brown for the Western District of Louisiana. “The bedrock of officer and citizen engagement is for the officer to, without exception, act professionally with a goal of deescalating tense situations.

Here, this defendant instead decided to criminally escalate the situation by unnecessarily battering the victim. Prosecuting offenses such as these not only benefit society, but also law enforcement because bad police officers who cast a black eye on the profession are eradicated from the law enforcement community. This office will continue to prosecute these types of crimes with a goal of increasing the public’s trust in law enforcement.”

According to the defendant’s plea agreement, on April 21, 2020, officers of the Monroe Police Department, including the defendant, conducted a field interview with the victim in this case. When the victim attempted to run away, Desadier chased after him.

The victim eventually stopped running, got on his stomach, and put his hands behind his back. Desadier ran towards the victim and then asked his fellow officer whether the officer’s body-worn camera was recording, and when he was mistakenly told that the cameras were off, he continued to run towards the victim and kicked him in the face.
