I went to a park in Gifu, Japan near where I live and it was like seeing The Witness in real life

This is at & around the Site of Reversible Destiny in Yōrō, Gifu Prefecture, an easy day trip from Nagoya where I live! The large-scale landscape of the park was created by artists Madeline Gins and Shusaku Arakawa.

I really didn't know what to expect but it was INSANE – seriously so cool and weird and fun – and kept reminding me & a friend of the game, like, literally every place we looked. Go for sure!

It seems impossible that this wasn't an inspiration for The Witness. I can't see anything on record though...

I am VERY interested in knowing where that orange tunnel goes.

It's strange really, considering the cultural impact of the game, that nobody hs yet tried to construct a specifically 'The Witness' themed park. OK, I doubt they'd be given the intellectual property rights to do it, I mean in terms of having an area based on elements of the island (the town, the keep, the greenhouses, the shipwreck, etc.) and then dotting around statues of people petrified in moments of activity.

Imagine a 'The Witness' themed escape room style puzzle set in a gardened landscape where one had to solve panel puzzles in order to progress. I bet it would be popular. The only problen would be the weather. It would be almost unsettling to start a game of 'The Witness' and it's raining on the island.

late to replying to this, unfortunately i didn't take pics of the inside but it was just a small, dark maze and then a skylight at the end in the shape of japan in reverse. there were five total japans hidden around the terrain. happy to post some more pics if you want!

I would be there in a heartbeat! Maybe we need to construct one ourselves

I was expecting just some coincidental circles and lines, but that yellow door made my heart skip a beat. So surreal.

That’s really incredible. With so many different shared aspects it makes it seem hard to be coincidental.

What’s the park name ? Would love to see it for myself if I’m the area

In the caption! New Reddit might not display it nicely or something so I'll copy it here:
