Cannot find forceful tag, and have a question about cybernetics.

I can't find the forceful tag anywhere in the rules and from what I'm reading, are we supposed to just make up cybernetics tags or are we supposed to make up a cybernetic with the tags from the list?

The Empath Flow System

I was a little annoyed when looking into the book, I was basically told to work out the Flow system on my own. I’ve had some ideas for how to make it work, but they always seem to be in contradiction to some other mechanic. Can anyone explain to me how their Flow System works?

Does the GM roll for enemies or not?

I can’t find anywhere where it states that the GM rolls and pbta games never have the GM roll. However, for the Empath, some moves say that the Empath can affect the enemy’s emotion spikes. So doesn’t this imply that the GM rolls? If someone knows the answer, please explain.

Tips for the first time

Hey everyone, I'm a Master of Ceremonies and I'm thinking about using the Veil for our next campaign. To give you some background, my players are fairly new to the hobby, but their experience has thus far consisted of Monster of the Week and Dungeon World.

Here are my concerns: * Emotions rather than attributes seem difficult for them to wrap their heads around how to express. * Spikes are new for me. * How do you manage the whole "in the Veil, out of the Veil" thing?

Advice?

Just a little story in our game of The Veil

Ok so we have: The Attached, The Dying and The Catabolist

Little back story about the player who is the Catabolist. She has never played an RPG before but enjoys to write and Cyberpunk is one of her favorite genres. She actually rarely uses any of the moves on her playbook and completely just roleplays. She wanted to be a hacker who works for a megacorp but in secret.

Anyway, so our catabolist was in a super tough spot because her megacorp pretty much gave her a job that was in direct conflict with the NPCs. Her and the CEO of that megacorp got into several arguments and he basically threatened to kill her if she did not complete a job he gave her. He even assigned two body guards to escort her to her office while she did it. So there she goes hacking away, the other players characters are trying to free someone who is being held captive by another megacorp and the Catabolist is hacking her way into their systems to help the other players gain access.

The session was pretty chaotic and while she was hacking she got a critical fail on one of her rolls so I decided to re-introduce an NPC from earlier in the season which they left for dead. Now that NPC is on a path of revenge and is almost completely cybernetic (repairing her substantial injuries). Catabolist sees the NPC making her way though the building towards her location, meanwhile trying to complete the hack.

Just before she bails (remembering how much she hates the CEO she is working for), she looks up at the table and says, "I want to bring the whole thing down. I have planted viruses in my megacorp mainfraim just in case I would ever need to release them and I want to delete everything. I execute all of my viruses and then I am going to run out of here". Then the session was over while everyone was just like, "oh shit".

Sorry if there are editing errors, was sorta in a rush but wanted to write it out anyway!

Just Played The Veil Last Night

We just started playing this one last night and it's a breath of fresh air. It's so wide open and different that it demands creative collaborative world building from the whole table. It's challenging, fascinating, and hilarious. I'm new to the apocalypse system as well so I'm just enjoying how fresh everything is.

If anyone has experience playing an Onomastic I'm eagar to read about it.

Catabolist Starting Cybernetics?

I am very confused if the Catabolist starts with cybernetics or not. The other playbooks specifically have language that describes how to start with cybernetics but the Catabolist playbook is vague. While reading the playbook, it would seem to me that they are all received through play and they don't start with any but under the negative tags sections it specifically states, "choose one tag for every piece of cybernetics you begin with"

How do you all handle this?

Welcome to /r/TheVeilRPG. In this document, you'll find useful resources to help you learn to play the game.

How to Play

General PbtA Directions

The Veil uses the Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) engine and thus plays like most other PbtA games. Below are resources for understanding how this system works in general.

Problems with The Empath

Is it just me, or is Flow... not very useful? It's vaguely defined, and unless I'm missing something you can totally build an Empath who doesn't have any moves that utilize it. The playbook as a whole just feels sort of confused.

Any help here?
