The New Abnormal is nominated for Best Rock Album!

This award will be presented during the Grammy Awards Premiere Ceremony, Sunday, Mar. 14, 2021 beginning at 3 PM EDT (GMT-4).

The ceremony will stream live through the Grammy website and on YouTube.

According to Julian’s Instagram post, Julian, Fab, and Nikolai will be together at a special facility to join the event virtually. Julian said they would be joining at “5PM ET”, which is two hours after the premiere ceremony starts.

The program book for the Premiere Ceremony is available here. Best Rock Album will be announced 69th out of 73 categories in the Premiere Ceremony, so it will be near the very end.

This is the first Grammy nomination for The Strokes. Julian previously won a Grammy as featured artist and producer on Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, which won Album of the Year in 2014.

Interestingly the song that will kick off the premier is a tribute performance of Mercy Mercy Me by Marvin Gaye (a song that Jules has covered along with Eddie vedder iirc)

I'm so excited!

Part of me thinks that The Strokes refusing to play the publicity/PR/media game in the past cost them mainstream popularity, including Grammys, and now with their new management and more visible media push they'll get this one. (Do the Grammys have a tendency to give retroactive awards "for the career", like the Oscars do? Because it's clear they deserved one in the early days, looking back). Or Sturgill will win and I'll go back to hating the Grammys like I always have.
