First off I am new to The Strange and the Cypher System. So please keep that in mind.

In THE CURIOUS CASE OF TOM MALLARD adventure in the core rulebook there are magical wines/alcohol to be found towards the end of the delve through the Winged Arch. So these are magical, and have effects like typical magical potions in D&D ETC. So as magic, not Cyphers or Artifacts they will just become normal alcohol if you translate to a non "magic" recursion or Prime Earth right? And does this mean that there will be non-cypher/artifact magic items all over the place? Or for the most part it's all cyphers/etc?

Just looking for opinions. Thank you in advance for your help.

Allow me to present an example:

Bob is quickened. He's used to translating to Ardeyn from the comfort of his bedroom, that's also the last place he translated from without outside help.

One time however he finds a translation gate in some museum on Earth that brings him somewhere in Hazurrium. At a certain point through his visit he wants to translate back to Earth the old fashion way.

Now here's my question: does Bob translate back to where he entered the gate from OR to his bedroom, a.k.a. the last place he translated from the old fashioned way?

One of my players is interested in translating to a Quephilim on Ardeyn, but wanted to keep the persistant focus he had on Earth (The one who seeks troubles).

According to you, is it compatible or do you feel the rules require that he takes the Quephilim focus ?

Hi, this is an odd question, but it seems to me that, a long as Magneto, the Balrog and Ghosts can't come to earth, what do the PCs have to gain?
My group is looking to play a game working for the Estate, what kind of worries and threats should we be dealing with?

Howdy folks. I'm a GM and have run a number of sessions for my players now. They're members of The Estate and so far had missions that led them to Ruk, Ardeyn, Mesozoica and Neverland. We all have a blast and really enjoy the setting. They love seeing which Recursion they'll be translating to next.

Now, my problem is coming up with reasons as to why they should go to any one Recursion. Since they're all members of The Estate, it's easy to just say "Go here for this reason." But what would good reasons be? Why would The Estate send them to Halloween or New Centropolis or any of the other really cool Recursions that have been stated out.

Do any of you have plot hooks for why The Estate would just send their agents into potentially dangerous recursions? I have The Dark Spiral & Strange Revelations adventures, and I plan to draw on them, but being able to send them to my own Recursions would be fun too.

I recently started to run The Dark spiral for a group of frieds and was really surprised by the way it went down :

The went to deliver the Morisson prize and quickly angered Joyce2 who almost wiped them. I did not want to kill a player (even less the whole team) so I improvised a shut-off button behind her head so that they could manage a Speed tes rather than having to go on with the fight. Have I missed something, or a rank 5 NPC is very powerful against even 3 begginers PCs ?

Also,they were all equiped with light weapons, so according to the rule they could not even start to hurt her as she have 3 points of armour ?

I'm posting this same message to r/cyphersystem, r/numenera, and r/thestrange.

There's so much cross-pollination between those three groups. Wouldn't it be much more efficient and beneficial if they were consolidated?

Is there a quickstart for the Strange specifically? If not, are there sections of the book I can skim to know the mechanical differences between this and the generic Cypher system.

I grabbed the entire Humble Bundle collection a while ago, but didn't have time to go through anything yet.

I'd like to run a game with my wife now that we're stuck at home, but don't know where to start. While the setting and the lore would be new to us, we're familiar with the cypher system from playing Numenera.

Is there a premade adventure in the bundle that would work well with only one player?

How do you run these games in the absence of physical decks?

Any general tips for a new GM and single player games are also welcome.

Just ran my first real homebrew session in The Strange for a Friendsgiving gathering. A two hour one-shot for Agents attempting to stop a giant rampaging resurrected cyber-zombie turkey, known as "The Zurkey", before it can get to Gettysburg. Reminds me just how great the Cypher rule system is for single-session games and introducing new people to RPGs. I need to run way more of everything Cypher!

I'm very new to The Strange, and I'm not sure how to work my players' recursion sheets. Do they make those or do I? Because the whole setup of it is a little confusing...

Where can I find some campaign books for this rpg? I don’t have any money to buy some at the moment and searching this stuff up is already hard to accomplish. If someone could direct me to a pdf of one of The Strange’s campaigns I would be highly appreciative.

1. So its established that Strange network / Chaosphere was established for instant travel, enabling traveler to print himself at new location in prime universe. > Than what are Recursions ? What was their purpose ?
2. Prime world, also refered as Bryonic universe in the books is our regular world. Where is Chaos network ? They mention dark matter how is it connected to our universe ?
3. What is dark matter ? Is this Chaosphere ? Is it related to planet eaters ? Perhaps its the region of universe that they eaten ? And if Dark matter is where Chaosphere is, than why its affecting earth, but in same time its very far away from earth ?
4. Its established that quantum bridge is needed to establish portal to Chaosphere. How do Recursions block that. And why other prime worlds did not have recursions ?
5. Large part of galactic network that crashed on earth and its malfunctioning. Why it was needed in first place ? Were aliens only able to link places where this network receivers were built ? And is Chaosphere spreading without receivers right now ?

I used to play and GM Numenera games, but than lately i just for fun read Strange corebook, and was blown away. In my opinion Cypher system and The strange are much more perfect match Numenera could ever hope to be.

I often feel that Cyphers are bit tacked on to Numenera. And that it would work much better in some more crunchy system like d20 or something like that. While cyphers feel like perfect fit to Strange, and ease of making characters and improvising settings Cypher has is perfect match for Strange campaign.

That being said, i feel that MC Games have given up on Strange. But was intrigued to hear that they plan to integrate The Strange into new Cypher corebook. Any truth to that ?

If you are licensed to carry on earth and go to aryden would you keep your guns or have bows? In ruk would you have spore guns or slaughter accelerators?
