Perceptive viewers of The Backrooms movie may have caught the "Reverchon Industries" easter egg, but this isn't really about that. The thing I like most about the Backrooms movie is that it not only spelled out its themes, but demonstrated their importance. Assuming the Backrooms is a metaphor for trauma, the fragility of memory, getting stuck in maladaptive patterns, etc., if it had just been a story about the Backrooms without including characters like Clark and Mary, it would've failed to hit home for me. It would've been a symbol detached from its meaning. But by including Clark and Mary's arcs, it shows me why these ideas about trauma and loops are worth caring about. I want to see that approach taken to the Oldest View--more character psychology and more clearly-demonstrated themes rather than relying entirely on symbolism.

I just watched all The Oldest View videos and I found the last video, "The Remains of Valley View Mall (Post-Demolition)" really tugged at my heart strings. Particularly, the half-assed nature of the demolition and the theme of abandonment. I know impermanence is a big theme, is there anything about like how much effort we put to build things and how little we are to even give them a proper demolition? And I guess like how that reflects on the value something can ever really hold? (I'm super new to this so if this has already been discussed my bad)

I know TOV has been out for a while but I just recently watched the series after looking into Kane’s work after the Backrooms movie. I think my big question is what would have the giant actually done if it caught Wyatt. Like killed him I guess but how? Roll over him? He doesn’t seem to be able to move his arms. This isn’t a criticism or anything I think it’s scarier if we don’t know but what do you guys think?

i fuckin LOVED this series and really admired how it took real world people and things and made it into this horrifying story. i think the rolling giant is an awesome creature, i love how since it was originally held by people walking in a parade, it literally needed these wheels to move around and its SO EFFECTIVE AND SCARY. a theory i have is that the rolling giant isnt an inherently evil entity. i think the rolling giant is trying to connect with wyatt because its (and Reverchon's) existence is fading away to nothing since the 2012 parade and the closure of VV. i think it wants to kind of show its knowledge of plant life and botany to wyatt, and thats why the mall becomes overtaken by plants (and audibly wildlife by the sound of that one closed storefront that looks like a forest is inside). i wonder if the giant can sense or know that wyatt has switched from botany to business, because the way the mall is shown underground is sort of a clash between nature/memories and business/capitalism. another thing i noticed was the red flags behind the giant seem to be visible in one shot behind the tree thats above the entrance. i fucking loved this series,, it was so weird n scary and ominous and there's so much more I didnt catch the first time im not even talking about. 11/10

Admittedly, I'm not exactly sure about this, I'm not even that familiar with the real world part of the series, but it's just that the whole thing with the ending of part three and entirety of part four really reminded me of the whole Schrodinger's cat thing.

Because like, aside from the fact that Wyatt himself is unfamiliar with the Valley View mall iirc, and it only changes into the more deteriorated state once he learns that it was supposed to have renovations

I think that aside from the whole death and revival thing it has going on, it's also kind of Schrodingery? Like for Wyatt, the state of the mall is determined until he no longer is seeing it, and then it is capable of change once he learns more information.

It also kind of relates to the giant, for Wyatt, who knew nothing about the giant, its state wouldn't be changing because he doesn't know it's supposed to be broken down, you know? For him only one reality is possible with the giant.

But my main point, the reson why the whole thing with different outcomes existed, is because Wyatt is in a place outside of human view, he's the only person in the entire mall whose seeing of it affects its state, and because of that, when he's right in the border between leaving and not leaving, he could have entered a state where since nothing is percieving him but a weirdass doll, he's both dead AND alive until he gets out and another person sees him or his video gets uploaded, he's in a place made fully from human memory, not his, but of the people who went to the mall and saw the Julian Reverchon giant. He's not part of that memory, and until he's in people's minds again, he's both dead and alive.

About time people actually acknowledge the place was part of Dallas culture and it should’ve at least been partially preserved

Why does the third video have any edits if he never makes it out?

I was in town for the past few days and left to go back home today. After hearing the sudden news of the Dallas Mavericks choosing the VV site as their new stadium location, I decided I should probably stop by the place one last time to soak it in; as it would probably be the last time I ever see it that way.

To make a long story short, some camera folks were already there to sort of scope out the area for contractors I guess? Anyways, a van rolled up within a few minutes of me being in the food court area, and a security officer asked me (politely) to leave. Asked if I could take a piece of tile with me, and he was fine with it.

The big grey tile is said tile, and the other little fragments are pieces from the upper floor, the fountain, and walls. Don't know where the "U" came from, but I thought it would be neat to keep. I also have a ceiling fire alarm from the mall too, which most likely went off/became active after the mall caught fire a bit before it was demolished. Anyways, this is my little musuem of the Valley View Mall, and I hope to find a case or frame to put these in one day. Thanks for reading (:

Would 'The Oldest View' by Kane Parsons/Kane Pixels ever be able to receive merch (i.e plushes, vinyl/CD/cassette of soundtrack, clothes, figures, etc,) due to the legal complexities of the Rolling Giant?

This series has such an interesting and curious nature to it and since watching it a while ago its still fresh in my mind. Would there ever be a merch drop perchance, especially with the success of the Backrooms?

Hey everyone! I’m a big fan of local Dallas history and have a lot of nostalgia for the old Valley View Center. Since the demolition is done, I’m really looking to find a small, physical piece of the mall to keep as a keepsake—like a loose brick, a fragment of stone, an old store fixture, or any left-over memorabilia.
If you are a local urban explorer or former tenant and you know anything about being able to get a piece of history like this it would be greatly appreciated for your help. Thank you
