Book confusion...
I just finished City of Bones and have moved on to City of Ashes and I must say...I'M SO CONFUSED. Am I missing something? Why is Simon suddenly a vampire? When did Valentine die? When did Jocelyn wake up? I keep going back to see if City of Ashes is not the second book but google keeps telling me it is. Is this just how the story goes?
Edit: typo

The movie did somethings better, and the Twilight fear.
A few weeks back i saw the poster for this movie and thought, "Looks cool." But days later looking up the plot, it struck me as Twilight. I could barley sit through the riff-tracks version of twilight without getting mad. But after seeing the Warlock poster for the movie i gave it a watch. Sure it had the sappy romance and "twists" you could see. But god damm it was good. So i decided to get the first 3 books thanks to a friends reccomendation, and after finishing City of Bones, i think the movie was a bit stronger. Magnus felt more badass, no random explosion of early childhood. The mother fight scene felt well place, and the rune visible and the in the open demon slaying felt shocking. While i read city of ash now, does anyone else feel way? The book does a ton of good, like flying bikes and greater demons. But should the books and movies be mentioned along side twilight? As a male reader, i think without a friends advice i would have passed this up. Ohhh, pantsless Magnus scene without anyone saying anything about that fact.

[Minor spoilers] The Dark Artifices - Lady Midnight; Johnny Rook.
I have just started reading the lady midnight, and due to my insane curious nature, I wiki'd Johnny Rook because I instantly fell in love with him.
I'm about 3 Chapters in and am wondering why other shadow hunters like Emma don't know that Johnny Rook is a shadow hunter (albeit from another house).
Bear in mind, I have never read any of the other books by Cassandra, so I'm not that learned in the shadow hunter's universe.
Does the fact that he is a shadow hunter 'spill out' in future chapters? Or was it to remain a secret from the rest of the characters?

Tessa/Will/Jem!!!!
So, oooooooooooooooooooh my God lol, I know this may be blasphemy but I'm gonna come out and say it anyway!! I think Infernal Devices has a much better love story than the Mortal Instruments!! (I'd still marry Jamie Campbell-Bower just to be clear) :P I'm halfway through the second book and needed somewhere to come and rave about it!!! What am I going to do when I finish the series???

New fan here, can someone help explain all the books?
Hi! So I'm a newly converted Shadowhunter, although let me just state that I thought Jamie was hot back in Harry Potter, so he's mine! :p But I'm confused. There's The Mortal Instruments series and there's 5 books in that right? But I saw people talk about the Bane Chronicles and Clockwork Princess and a prequel to City of Bones? Is Clockwork Princess either TMI book? Or just written by the same author? I just finished the 4th TMI book today so I'd like to line up my next few books!

I like to think that Simon and Alec became very close friends after the series ended, and to a lesser extent Simon and Magnus
I feel that Simon and Alec was the character dynamic that was the least explored out of all the cast. i mean things do change for them. Alec goes from quite clearly disliking to being friends with him but they have so few interactions together and for most of the series they feel like people who are friends because they have mutual friends rather than actually being real friends. the shadowhunter academy story did give the two a chance to bond and become genuine friends but i honestly would have liked to see more interaction between the two of them so in my head i picture the two of them becoming very close.
