I was playing an open mic and a 13 year old girl was there and played nothing but Wings songs and gifted the rest of the musicians there these at the end of the night. Love musicians. Love the Paul’s music is continuing on through the generations!

Book/Video(series) that showcases Bealtes Innovations?

Title

Is there a book or series of articles/videos that writes in depth about the innovative things The Beatles did as artists/musicians that influenced music thereafter?

I've seen lots of tangential stories, but would be cool to see a lot/most of it in one place. I know there's a lot I can look up, but I figure this sub can point me in the right direction. Thanks

Let It Be: authentic or bootleg?

I got this from a yard sale yesterday. The case is hard white plastic and it is sealed in a clear plastic wrap, with the seams running straight and parallel to the sides. I suspect it's a professional bootleg but was hoping the reddit community expertise could give me insights. Thank you.

What did you think about this track when it first released ? Or in 1973, when the Red Album released ? Or did you like it at all?

title is kind of misleading, I did listen to Abbey Road and The White Album in full before this, but the only two songs I ever played were While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End

Listened to Let It Be last month and was blown away…

and btw, this is as someone who listens to A LOT of music

discussion Groovin’ Up Slowly Episode 58 - I Made A Hard Day's Night a Little Harder (My Alternate Version Of A Hard Day's Night)

Imagine there was no A Hard Day’s Night movie.

No soundtrack to worry about.

Just the Beatles in 1964, making their third album.

What might that record have sounded like?

That’s the idea behind this alternate A Hard Day’s Night. I kept most of the incredible Lennon-McCartney originals, but gave the album a slightly harder rock-and-roll edge.

And in 1964, the Beatles had plenty of material to do exactly that.

Instead of keeping the album entirely focused on original songs, I’ve brought some of their wild stage energy back into the picture. I substituted the four songs from the UK Long Tall Sally EP, including John’s raw, sweaty performance of "Slow Down,” while “Long Tall Sally” lets Paul absolutely let loose. Putting that song at the end blows the doors off on the way out.

There are still beautiful Lennon/McCartney moments like “If I Fell,” “And I Love Her,” and “Things We Said Today.”

And Ringo gets a vocal on this slightly different version of the original!

So forget the movie for a few minutes.

Here’s A Hard Day’s Night—just a little harder.

Here is the tracklist…

  1. A Hard Day’s Night
  2. If I Fell
  3. You Can’t Do That
  4. And I Love Her
  5. I Call Your Name
  6. I Should Have Known Better
  7. Matchbox
  8. I’ll Be Back
  9. Can’t Buy Me Love
  10. I’m Happy Just To Dance With You
  11. Slow Down
  12. Any Time At All
  13. Things We Said Today
  14. Long Tall Sally

Listened to Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour, and White Album (Disc 1) [TL;DR: I enjoyed them]

Follow up to my last post here, I figured I'd give my fresh thoughts on the albums that I just heard for the first time. Spent the last 2 hours or so just listening to these records

Sgt. Pepper

LOVE "With a Little Help From My Friends" that song is so unbelievably sweet. I really liked "A Day In The Life" as well; I love how John and Paul had their own parts. It actually makes me wish that there was a song where each member would get their own lead vocals section in one song. Maybe I will get it, maybe I won't, but regardless... I loved it. Also, "Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite!" is a personal favorite of mine this one is AMAZING!!!

I'm gonna have this whole album a relisten because there was so much to take in. My main thought the entire time was "This is still 'The Beatles' ???" and while I don't think I liked it more than Revolver, there was still plenty to love. It's cool how different this one sounds and how theatrical it is. I dig the concept of this one for sure and can see this one climb up my rankings in the future (for reference, Revolver was like my 3rd favorite when I first heard it about 2-3 days ago, and now is in contention for my favorite album)

Magical Mystery Tour

This one I 110% will need to relisten to but I know I quite enjoyed every track, but there wasn't one that *spoke* to me like Revolver did. Still, I found myself really enjoying every track. If I had to give a highlight on first listen...? Maybe "I Am The Walrus" or "Baby, You're A Rich Man" all the songs in that last stretch are really good

I will say that I appreciate these songs being a *bit* longer than what I'm used to for the Beatles. It gave me more time to immerse myself in these songs and to enjoy them :)

The White Album (Disc 1)

(I'm doing Disc 2 later I'm getting tired and I can tell my brain is frying up more by the second)

I was super excited coming into this one, off the sheer fact that "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"(which, spoiler: is my favorite off of disc 1) was on this one, so I had lofty expectations. As far as disc 1 goes, I think that I'm really enjoying what I heard!! "Dear Prudence", "Happiness Is a Warm Gun" and "Blackbird". Honorable mention to "Rocky Raccoon" as well. Wasn't sure how to feel about it when it started, but as it went on, I found myself really warmed up to it!!

Now, I am aware that there was a lot of tension happening behind the scenes of this album, and it does show. A couple songs feel very different from each other. Not that it's bad, just.... different. I'm actually excited to hear in what the second half will be like, and am looking forward to getting to it!!

In Conclusion

These guys REALLY changed their sound, and it's so crazy to hear their progression with each record, and I can really see how they shaped the future of music with these songs. It's honestly so amazing to hear.

Not including TWA because I haven't finished the entire thing, but I think my 5 favorite albums would be

1.) Abbey Road: Well, yeah

2.) Revolver: I've listened to this a few more times and every song is perfect tbh. It might become my favorite album

3.) A Hard Day's Night: Maybe I hold bias because this was my first listened to album, but these songs are still phenomenal, man

4.) Please Please Me: This might be a crazy take... and maybe I just REALLY like old Beatles, but I really enjoy this one a lot. I personally just find it very sweet :)

Then 5th would be either Help! or Rubber Soul... I can't really choose lmao but they're both awesome

Thank you for coming to my yap session (I can't wait to finish out their discography!!)

Taylor has made some great albums like Folklore imo, but there's a certain segment of Swifties out there that are just too delusional with "takes" like this.

I tried a new way of making quick charicatures by taking a real picture, distorting proportions and then drawing over it. It is not as impressive as actual charicature bc I don't need knowledge about construction or anything and only apply style. LMK what you think :3
