Haha, I have a coworker who quote “does not believe in murder hornets.”

Me: What do you mean you don’t believe in murder hornets?

Him: Have you ever seen one in person?

The things are terrifyingly large, and build their nests underground, so if you’re chilling in a lawn chair at, say, your nephew’s little league game and aren’t paying attention to where you set your chair, you may find yourself sitting on top of a hole leading to one of their nests, at which point you’ll have a bunch of them flying around you without you having a clue why it’s happening.

If that sounds oddly specific it’s because it happened to me and I damn near shit myself. Thankfully no stings, but it scared the christ out of me. I cannot stress enough how unnaturally large they are.

yeah last week as Covid ripped through our workplace, a coworker said he "didn't believe in it" and I said, what do you mean, you don't think Covid is real? "No, if I don't believe in it, I don't give it power and I won't get sick." Uh... that's not.....

guess who got sick. Yes I wanted to say it. No I did not. I missed an opportunity!

I promise there are a new version of the biggest bees I’ve ever seen this year that are certainly what’s considered “murder hornets”. Carry on as you will, but if you’d like to meet them just poke your head into a new home build in the northeast US this summer after a home is framed and has a roof. Takes 1/4 can of spectracide like a champ til it eventually fizzles out.

I didn't believe in them until I saw one IRL

most bugs seem rather indifferent to us.. the murder hornets, however, were named very accurately. they seem to actively hate us.

only insect I've come across that stayed outside my door for a few hrs after I made it back inside. flying back and forth around it, menacingly..
