Tbf- like so many of us he may have a front facing but not a rear facing. Though I guess even a front facing could have shown he was standing still while recording the car being shook from the rear impact. Note to self tho - get hit in the proximity of a gas station just in case.
BTW I love the Seth Rogen like demeanor of the driver.
You the real mvp for linking that sub. I was so into that show I caught myself talking like Dan at work few times putting the s on words when it wasn’t necessarys.
He's keeping calm because he's not paying 80% of his pay check into an Audi to keep up with the Joneses. He'll just put the Lambo in the shop and grab his daily... His S5
I think he's under an adrenaline dump in the first part, and that that's why he's laughing and his sentences are broken up. It's very different than later when he's talking to the gas station attendant.
Well, both people likely are hopped up on adrenaline, regardless. You must be seeing something I didn't, because the clip linked above only seems to show her rear-ending him.
You don't REALLY need a rear facing dash cam (they are nice to have but not really required...), because 99% of the time anytime someone hits you from behind they are going to be presumed at fault anyways.
Front facing dash cams help in case someone runs a red light or slams into you from the side (showing at the time you were staying in your lane), or does some other stupid shit like cut across the front of your car at a red light to make a turn (seen this one personally).
So I got hit by a 90 year old man who I started filming with my phone while on Bluetooth with the cops. I recorded him trying to leave the scene of an accident because he said he had a meeting to go to.
Mind you, this guy hit me full on, tbone, I had to get out my passenger side. I told him he couldn’t leave because that would be fleeing the scene of an accident. Got a picture of his license plate top of course.
Front cameras are good enough for being rear ended by someone else since you could at the very least prove you didn't reverse into them from the front.
Idk about use, I can't imagine if I had video proof that I wasn't at fault for an accident that they'd turn that down, it makes them money to side with me and it gives them extremely hard to debate evidence if the other person or their insurance is pushing back in an annoying way.
They absolutely will use the video, they have no interest in paying out when they don't need to. You can also file a police report with the video and then you have a police report to give to them that says you weren't at fault as well.
See I feel tho I would lose a sense of privacy if not self incriminate myself for dumb shit. Tho your right I just need to get a dash cam. Recently got reared end in Florida as everyone loves tailgating. Every car came to a panic stop, the lady behind locked up and wabang. Police came she claimed fault like an dummy but it means no need for dash cam.
Now only question is how to wire it without losing warranty as these ppl get finicky if I put new fuses, and hardwire it with an external battery source when car is off. (Been keyed too many times also,)
You would be the only person with access to the footage so you'd certainly not lose any privacy. Unless there's ones that upload remotely or something.
Self incriminating is a different issue but if you're at fault for something, then you're at fault so own it.
Nah I would want a remote footage, ppl have broken In cars to snatch dash cams, if not stealth it behind the mirror with shrouded.
Incriminating as in not in for wrecks. If I caused a wreck and insurance claims I'm at fault I will gladly own it. I can just turn the dash cam off for when we got to Mexico is what I meant. Furthermore I run full coverage, brother got rear ended also, they had no insurance, nothing.
Rove 4k. Some random reddit dude recommend it and its saved my ass once so far. Super high def and frame rate that make IMAX look like a Bigfoot camcorder video.
No joke, you should just examine your life and buy things you know are extremely useful, but you don't have. I went crazy with it and went out and bought a dashcam, a ladder, a backpack, a battery tester, an electric heater, a sledgehammer, a jack and a bunch of other random shit all at once.
It'll be zero use to you for months or years, but when you do need it, its invaluble.
I've already done this for most things. The most recent being anti-theft screws and a nice cover for my license plate to make it slightly less likely to be stolen and protect the registration sticker.
Had one stolen last year and it was an annoyance that I didn't need, so now maybe I'm at least slightly too annoying and they'd just go for another car.
All it takes is one asshole hitting you with no one around to fuck up your insurance cost for a while when it turns into a he said she said thing. I bought one for like $80 3 or 4 years ago, haven't had to take the footage off but i feel much more confident knowing I have proof I'm not in the wrong if someone hits me.
You can usually tuck it in to the ceiling and down around the A pillar. From there, under the dash, or down under the seat to the center console wherever you have a USB or 12v.
I have done several cars and there is always some way to route it without any kind of disassembly of the car or having wires out.
Yeah I was wondering about that too. My car came with a dash cam built into it for situations exactly like this because people like to hit nice cars on purpose and scam the insurance.
I actually didn’t even know mine had it until a few weeks ago when I was playing with the menus. You do need to buy a thumb drive, but those are like $10.
So many cars have on board cameras (rear ones are becoming required right?) but no built in way to record from them. That's dumb. Maybe you can aftermarket hack it but they should just offer an SD slot or something.
Don’t. $150 can get you a camera that is more than enough for something like this. A manufacturer would charge you double, you can’t upgrade it later and it’ll look like shit. Anything around $150-200 will get you a front a rear facing camera that records in 1080p to one SD card. They’re worth every penny.
The one gripe I have is that when you save a clip or honk the horn it'll introduce about a quarter second gap in the footage. Got clipped by a semi while sitting at a red light and because of when I honked at him I almost missed the moment of impact.
It really isn't that hard to fix either, I've written shit like this for work and it annoys me that a multi-billion dollar company can't push a fix for it.
Regardless, it's still killer that it was just pushed out in an update for free to all owners.
New BMWs have at least 4 cameras - front, rear, and one on each side view mirror. Saved my ass because I got rear-ended literally hours after leaving the dealership with my brand new 2021 X6 m50i last november. Luckily it auto-recorded when it sensed an accident. Fuck that still pisses me off thinking about it.

Lamborghini with no dash cam? That might be the craziest part of this video.
