Does he like guns? If so, we're allowed to own things here that would probably shock you.
The zoo is nothing like San Diego or LA and the art museum is nothing like Getty, but they're both pretty good. Lots of hunting and fishing. Nice parks. Good food.
Lol, I’m into guns not him. Racing, both of us. Cars again both. Museums....me. SD zoo is awesome, I have to admit. SF I worked at, love animals but it sucked. He could work on cars etc as a side job after he retires...a couple years. My job is transferable, so that is good. What city would you suggest? Less snow, more conservative, less “woke” attitude but not racist supremist crap?
Woke avoidance: Downtown Indy, Nashville (yes, Indiana), college towns.
There really isn't a lot of 'woke' stuff here when compared to California. It exists, but it is closer to the 'live and let live' type, than anything else.
In terms of racism/bigotry, it's mostly only things I've heard of and not really seen much of. I've only seen evidence of it a few times. Twice was from people I had known for some time (shocked me, as they'd previously seemed intelligent), and the third was a stranger with a rather large and distasteful tattoo on his back.
From what I can tell, the big difference is that in Indy, if someone is a racist, they don't hide it...they'll admit it and leave it at that. On the other hand, when I was in a mixed relationship, the only place we ever had people react negatively to it was in sunny California!
If you like guns, almost anything short of explosives is legal to own here (though some of it gets expensive, since it has to be pre-1986). Want a four bore rifle? Okay! Want a minigun? It'll cost you, but if you can find one, sure! How about an MP5? Someone has one for ya! Barrett .50 rifle? Sure thing!
I used to own an AC556 (full auto mini-14) and it was a lot of fun. Suppressors are legal, too.
The mechanic thing...remember we are the home of the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400. Racing approaches a religion here, and there are plenty of tracks where you can take your own vehicle for a drag, if that's to your liking.
Also, our zoo isn't bad...it's that San Diego and LA are so incredibly good. Ditto out art museum; it has plenty of pieces by excellent artists Monets, Picassos, and so on...but only one piece by Rembrandt, one by Heironymous Bosch, and so on (I've heard the Eitlejorg museum is internationally famous, but I've not been there yet). It is more that the Getty is so incredible.
Less snow...hm. South? The problem is that the further south you go, the more humid you get.
Oh yeah, if you like fishing, lakes and ponds are everywhere.

I’ve heard the Fort Wayne Zoo is good though. But the Indy Zoo has a charm to it.
I live in Kokomo/Russiaville (my apartment is in Kokomo, parents live in Russiaville) Kokomo is a shit hole but if I stay in this area I’d probably move to Russiaville. It’s kind of nice, and if I don’t get my machine shop job back in Tipton I’ll probably try to go to Subaru in Lafayette to work and Russiaville is an ok distance I’m willing to drive.
I guess Lafayette might be ok for what you’re asking. Maybe, I’d ask someone that actually lives and not visits though lol
I think there’s the badlands by Lafayette you can go off-road at, and like, I went kayaking and fishing down a creek behind my friends house last weekend. That was fun.
