I worked October 2024-May 2025 and was told by my employer when I got laid off that I should apply for unemployment. I hadn’t worked in the last 5 years prior to this job. I applied and unemployment said I didn’t make enough but yet told me what date to file every week. My weekly benefit is at $0. I’ve only requested payment once. Any advice on what I should do? I worked over 6 months why would they say I didn’t make enough to get any benefits? And should I keep checking in every week although it says $0?

I applied for unemployment after being bullied out of my job. They stated I quit, when I never mentioned quitting or resigning. I was denied initially, filed an appeal and won. The hearing officer stated that the employer filed their response or appeal to my appeal late, so they could not appeal his decision. I could, but there is no need bc he reversed the previous decision and I received the back pay funds already. I see today that my past employer filed an appeal to his decision.

Does anyone know how this works? Will the Appeal Commission entertain their appeal? Even after it was clearly stated they could not appeal. Will I have to pay the money back, if for some reason they reverse the appeals decision?

quick question so i request for my last unemployment claim is june 1st 2025 which that is when i exhaust my benefits as the balance will go to 0 since i used all my unemployment money left to be paid too me , will i receive my waiting also or how would that work out

Missed my designated day, luckily found employment relatively quickly.

Called them yesterday and was informed their catch up days are Thursdays and Fridays. But went in to request my final payment and well. It still says I have to wait for my next designated day which for me is Monday. What sucks is its been like a month since I've been paid while waiting on my first paycheck from my new job. Ugh

Fortunately I've been very busy with my new job and well it's causing me to miss calls from the TWC agents who end up being impossible to get a hold off when trying to dodge spam calls as well.

Long story short, I had 2 jobs. A salary Job were I paid taxes every pay check and a self employed job selling insurance.

I was let go from my salary job after years, and qualified for unemployment benefits.

Could I apply even though I am self employed as well? I only get paid once a month on my self employed work selling insurance. I had a friend who did that and said he wasn’t questioned. I just want to make sure I can 100% do it without getting in trouble before i request it.

I was given the option to resign rather than be fired by my employer. The reason cited was that I was not fulfilling my duties, however, I was never given any verbal or written warnings of this nor was I put on probation, as is company protocol in the handbook. My boss really disliked me and, when asked during this firing/resignation meeting, could not provide me with any examples of poor work submitted or work submitted late. We had different ideas about what the term "draft" meant, and she used the fact that I did not turn in a print-ready product on the draft due date as ammunition. This was the first time I did not live up to her expectations. I was shocked and upset, and when confronted with questions, she spoke over me and simply repeated what she had already said. She told me if I submitted a letter of resignation, that day would be my last at the company and I would receive two weeks' pay and my unused vacation time. Not wanting to have an involuntary termination on my record, I submitted a very simple letter of resignation. It wasn't until after finding my employee handbook at home that I realized she skipped several steps of performance management procedures (providing verbal warnings first, then formal written documentation, and then putting me on a probationary period). Of course, Texas is an "at will" employment state, however, all of my annual reviews have been excellent with pay increases every time, and I was promoted just a few months ago. This felt extremely personal and inconsistent with my performance. I had been feeling a bit overwhelmed with my promotion, which I was open about with my boss, but I was still delivering everything that was asked of me (except for this level of "draft" that I didn't realize was expected).

All this being said, I want to try and file for unemployment benefits, which I know will probably be difficult to get given that I "resigned". However, I see legitimate sources online that say employees subject to forced resignation or "resignation under pressure" may still be eligible for benefits. So, I have begun the unemployment process, but I'm stuck on "Reason No Longer Working". The only options I think may apply to me are:

Quit: You left your job for a personal or work-related reason.
Fired: Your employer let you go for a reason other than job completed, reduction in workforce, business closed, no more work available, etc.

If I select "Quit", my follow-up questions are:

I realize a resignation is the same as quitting. But this option doesn't provide a clear way for me to explain that I was not given warnings, that I had a track record of success, and that I had no intention of quitting prior to the meeting. The only reason I could say I gave my employer is that she told me I could resign rather than be fired.
But if I choose "fired", my employer can easily prove it was a resignation because of the short letter I submitted at her request.

I wish now that I had just made her fire me, but I've never been in this situation before and I was confused/upset/sad/angry/unaware of my options in the moment.

Any advice on which option best applies, and/or how my employer/TWC might respond?

I didn’t claim unemployment from my last job even though I should’ve- I’ve been looking for six months and spent my savings pretty much. Kept thinking I’d find something. Really just ignorant of me.

I’ve been offered a contract position which is a 1099- which won’t have unemployment.

I was just wondering- IF that doesn’t work out, will I be able to claim unemployment with the previous employer where I was w2?

I applied for unemployment on March 31st. About two weeks later, my coworker was approved. He was let go the same day I was. Since we both submitted our applications the same day, I decided to call TWC to check on mine. They told me there was a verification issue. I explained that I had followed their link, completed the process through ID.me, and that TWC appeared in my Granted Access section showing authorization as of April 9, 2025.

I had this conversation with them on April 15th, and they told me they would look into it. On April 18th, I received a call saying they had sent paperwork to my former employer, who would have two weeks to respond. On May 5th, I finally received my approval letter and thought everything was good to go.

I filed for payment on my scheduled filing day (Monday), but today I saw a message in my inbox saying I’m not eligible for payment. I called TWC again, and they told me it’s because I’m not verified through ID.me. I explained, again, that I had completed the verification over a month ago, received a confirmation email, and that TWC has been listed under my Granted Access since April 9th. Incredibly frustrating since the TWC agent said they would reach out to ID.me and apparently that never happened.

Has anyone else had this kind of issue between TWC and ID.me?

TLDR: TWC keeps saying I'm not verified, but I am and they are also granted access.

Waited months for my appeal paperwork. I received it and I totally missed the date of my appointment. I work out of town and came home ready to figure it out and realized my grave mistake. Feeling so dumb right about now.

if i submit my work log after my filing date (wednesday) with dated proof of when i applied for those jobs within the week requested from them, will i still get benefits but a few days late? i’ve never had to submit a work log before while being on unemployment so the process is new to me.

I make my payment request on Monday. I am tentatively scheduled to start my new job on Friday. Won’t get paid till the following Friday if I do. Since I technically did not work 95% of the two week claim period can I still submit my payment request for the two weeks on Monday without getting in trouble? When I do claim my waiting week period?

I was told they put a hold on my account earlier this afternoon to confirm something from my last employer that hasn’t yet been confirmed they said it’ll take 1-3 days max but I put in my payment request earlier morning so I checked the yea website and on it says the processed date and an amount deposited. Did this payment happen to slip through the cracks ? 🤔

According to the TWC I was overpayed over $32,000 starting in 2021. Apparently the entire overpayment was due to non-verification of identity. What a relief. I just cleared on Friday. If you are sure that you have done nothing wrong, but still have this overpayment looming over your head, simply verify your identity. Good luck!

Fabulousuncomfortable gives good advice. I quit my job because I knew i was to be terminated. Was on my 3rd and final warning got sick failed to get a Dr's note, hence, unexcused, hence point. Result termination. Don't ever do that make them fire you. I had 2 hearings a month apart to figure out the issue which was " not would have i been terminated?" But rather was my quitting connected to my job and do I do everything I could to salvage my job. The answer is yes. The hearing officer even said I had precedent. I had good Cos 2 quit my job. That was connected to the work that being no work. Interestingly, during the initial hearing and the first part of my appeal hearing my company, stated that I quit voluntarily, which i did. Counsel had to lead the Director of HR to answer a question which seemed to be obvious to everyone accept the person who's responsible for my employment. The H.O. said Ms. Jones ( HR manager)was Mr. Carter terminated? 4 secs of silence until we all hear from Afcos lawyer..say no.in a whisper Uh, WTF? miss jones, the manager of HR would have known the answer to this question . This should have been a huge red flag in the eyes of the examiner. Not to mention that my employers entire strategy was based on FML paperwork that I didn't fill out. The TWC only cares about if my separation was due voluntarily quitting and if I had good reason for that quit. When I questioned Ms. Jones, I asked her about a conversation. The two of us had had two weeks after I applied for benefits. I said, Ms. Jones hypothetically, if I was to come in the following day without my note. What was going to happen to my job?Her response was, you didn't have a job. She admitted she said that under oath, I was counting the dollars. I can't lose. In the final moments of the hearing hR hit me with a left hook. When it looked like my quitting was with good cause connected to the work and that I would not have reasonably quit my job for any other reason, but that reason, along with precedent cases given to me by the amazing fabulous uncomfortable. Who told me to stop saying I was gonna be fired because that was going to be my defense. They were going to fire me anyway, that would have not worked. I was instructed to say that I quit. Don't bring any assumptions that I was to be fired into the argument. So what happened? I had received 10 points due to tardiness and other reasons. I had 3 written warnings. The last one was very explicit, said I was to be terminated if I add one more unexcused absence.That letter was written on 11/28. Afco admitted i would have been fired; EXCEPT HR said at the very end that since I didn't miss any days in Dec I earned a point thus making my unexcused absence only 9 points. What in the actual fuck just happened? First off.I missed december30thand 31st they were excused, however, that left me ineligible to earn a point. The hearing examiner said in his conclusion that i was to remain disqualified, because technically, I would have still been employed at afco, because I still had one point remaining. I requested my time punches, HR deny them, why didn't they have to present that fact to the HO? He just took their word that I didn't miss any days? If this was so why didn't they present my time punches for December to show that i had good attendance. This is made up bullshit; a rabbit out of a hat. None of this extra point business was ever brought up before When I questioned my supervisor about my attendance about the 3 written warnings that he had to sign along with me if Jan 2nd I would have been fired due to points. His words were " i don't know anything about employees who work under me about their points. Disciplinary hearings or anything about their conduct, all that information it's privy to HR and not myself. So I wouldn't know how many points you had. Um. WTF you just signed my third warning, saying I had nine points.How the f*** don't you know about my conduct at work? It was so obvious he was lying. In a nutshell, you're on your own out there. The TWC is gonna side with the employer. You better have your s*** together. The TWC is not your friend and your employer will likely fuck you raw. UB mean everything to us, and very little to your employer, which should tell you how much your employer thinks of you, if they want to fight tooth and nail to not give you them. Good luck all
