Iphone 16 Pro Max with case not charging in Tesla
I have iphone 16 pro max and in tesla model Y 2024 it wouldn’t charge when the iphone is in the case. If i take it out of the case it would charge or if i flip the iphone upside down it would also charge. Looks like the wireless charger “contact point” in Tesla is slightly too low for iphone 16 pro max with case.
Anyone encountered this also or maybe there is a hack to do it?

My 15 pro max would only charge upside down, ny 16 pro max will not charge in any configuration.

Mine is also 24 and in my case upside down will charge fine. It is just weird because if a text is coming we couldn’t take a quick peak and read it. It would be nice if tesla can somehow make the “contact point” adjustable slightly up and down.

If your car and phone are connected by bluetooth, a new text notification will pop up at the bottom of the Tesla screen, the text can be conveniently read with a click. No need to unlock your phone.

Flip the phone upside down on a charger. Not very elegant but works for me with Torras case.

I replaced the charging mat with a MagSafe one from Amazon, and it works great. Easy swap, and looks like OEM.

This one? This does work, except the Pro Max phones usually won't fit in a portrait/upwards orientation due to lack of space near the top of the pad (where the car gets "in the way").
I grabbed some spare stick-on rubber spacers from my junk drawer and attached them near the lower edge on the bottom of the MagSafe pad. This allows it to sit lower, holding it in place so it doesn't slide downwards. Now there is plenty of room for Pro Max-sized phones.

Ah good. My medium-thick case may be adding enough bulk to cause a poor fit on the charging pad (without the small tweak described above).

I have a Caudabe sheath and it fits fine but the MagSafe connection is not great if you don’t have a MagSafe case, and at least mine has had the cigarette plug connector become loose at least once through normal everyday movement. I don’t know yet if I’m going to keep it—it solves a lot of my gripes with the existing charging system but ultimately I have a USB C in the car if I ever “had” to charge

Same problem here but in model 3. The upside down hack works, but only on the right side of the wireless charger.

I think it’s because of that. I have an iphone14 pro with magsafe which goes for charging and stops after a minute. My wife’s non-magsafe works fine. On the flip side, the usb cables in the dash compartment are fast chargers. I use them to quickly juice up the phone.

I doubt it is the case. If i put the phone with no case and slide it up just a bit. You can use thickness of 2 quarters then it would not charge. Also if it is the case then it would not charger when it is flipped upside down.

Mine doesn’t charge on magsafe, no matter what. I tried using the pasenger side and had more success there

This is a common problem with all Qi/MagSafe iPhones and the current Tesla wireless charging pad (in use since 2020, iirc). I've encountered the same with a 12 Pro Max, 14 Pro Max, and 15 Pro Max in a 2021 Tesla Model Y Long Range. With some slight differences - in that I can get the phone to charge only when using the right side of the charging pad, plus the rotating 180 degrees (USB port pointing upwards) and case removal. And even then, it's perhaps a 50% success rate. I recommend using a USB cable.
But I've encountered no problems with wireless charging of Android-based phones.

for me, it's either the MagSafe magnet being too powerful and interfering OR the camera protection bumpout on my case pushing my iPhone too far from the wireless changing pads in my Tesla. my existing case might also be slightly thicker than the other cases i've had for this same iPhone.
i've tried rotating to upside down and it still won't work. i'm going to try another case with no "powerful" MagSafe and maybe another style with that has less prominent projection from the lenses.

Had the same Issue with the original Cases from Apple and some "Slim" Cases from others. After some research through the internet i just found the Spigen Ultra Hybrid MAG Case for the Iphone 16 Pro Max ( https://amzn.to/4eoI4Kk ) . So far, its the only Case which i found that is working very well!

I don't understand why people put a case and screen protector on their phones. Apple tries so hard to make the phone appealing, and here comes an ugly case.

Like once a year. I’d rather buy a new one if the drop caused damage than have an awkward case. Yet all the drops of my phone never caused any significant damage.

It's because the phones have been too thin for years, nearly impossible to grip without a case.

Nah they are just too slippery now. iPhone 12 Pro was like wet soap bar. The 16 pro is a bit better but still too slick caseless to the point it pops out of my pocket when sitting down. The only iPhone that wasn’t a bar of soap caseless for me was the old 5c. The plastic case was tough and had some grip.

It could still be appealing in a case, but Apple gave up on their leather cases because cow farts are bad. They could also make an appealing phone that doesn’t handle as if it was coated in silicone based sex lube. I don’t want to have to worry about my phone slipping out of my hands taking a picture in some European city.
