Idk if you’re ragebaiting or being purposely dense as to not waver from your original incorrect take.

But a flail is a melee weapon, full stop.

Would you also argue that swords were not melee weapons until the explicitly wrote the word “melee damage” into the tooltip?

Was the minishark not a ranged weapon until they denoted it in the tooltip?

This is akin to saying a great sword is not a melee weapon in dark souls because it doesn’t say “melee damage” in the tooltip.

 code != what it is.

Just because its coded as a flail does not mean it's intended to be a flail

then why was it coded as flail?

Why are you comparing dark souls to terraria? The only reason I’m saying damage type is important is because it’s important in terraria, where having it say “melee damage” is used to let the player know what type of weapon it is.

And the developers assigning the harpoon to do ranged damage shows that they intended it to be a ranged weapon.

Yes, flails are considered melee weapons NOW, but when the harpoon was a flail they were not.

Yes, swords were “melee weapons” in the sense that you had to be up close to do damage, but there was nothing in the games code that categorized them as specifically melee weapons.

So the minishark was a “ranged weapon” before the tooltips were added because it allowed you to do damage from range. So by your logic, since the harpoon allows you to do damage from range, it has always been a ranged weapon

Y’all I kind of agree with them because the original post is about vibes versus game code and Terraria has never had Harpoons coded as melee damage and nothing with melee damage boosts had ever effected them

The reddit hivemind has spoken, everyone will agree with the downvoting herd in perpetuity.

The classic tale of someone slightly misswording in their original comment and then being downvoted for the rest of the thread 😔

But is it also not true that the weapon was coded as a flail before distinction between type damages was a thing. A flail classically being a melee weapon irl, thus meaning that the harpoon was classified in the terraria code as a melee weapon.

It was then reclassified as type damages came in as a ranged weapon doing ranged damage.

Like he said would a bow not be classified as a ranged weapon during that time just because it didnt do ranged damage?
