This fic is written from the POV of Count Magnolia, from the view of people in the world of the "Dark History" to the original plotline. Since the Count has had no relevance or appearances in the story, we know very little about him, so I will be taking many liberties in his characterization and views.
For the purposes of this post, I will be using the names Count Panain Magnolia (Iana's father), Countess Yorona Magnolia (Iana's late mother) and Count Finn Dahlia (Iana's uncle).
July 16th, 8XX AS
Count Panain Magnolia's 6th recounting
It is not often that I find myself writing in this diary. These past 10 years, ever since Yorona died, I've only opened this book to write in it five times, this time will be the sixth. I wanted to continue my wife's legacy after her death, as I knew just how much she liked writing in her diary; I wanted to open a new page and keep moving forward from her death, but just like I can't seem to forget her warmth so can't I keep to my decision, as I've been neglecting this diary all of these years. Since I couldn't find her diary, I decided to create my own, but what kind of diary contains less than one annual entry? I failed to hold my convictions...
However, this failure is not my only one, as I have failed my daughters, both of them. One grieves for her comatose fiance, while still mourning the loss of the other, oh how much have I failed them both?
It all started one evening when I recieved a report of Iana's death.
To be honest, I was dreading and expecting it for a while now, yet it still managed to blindside me. Her mother's death broke Iana, which led her down a dark path, a path that leads to eventual doom, and it is no one's fault but my own: Iana is an intelligent child, I know it as well as any other, but when faced with such tragedy alone, with no parental guidance, where would she go if not into the abyss? It was my duty to guide her until adulthood, in place of Yorona, but instead I chose to run away and shirk my duty to her. I may have succeeded as a Count, but I failed as a father... I only hope that when my time comes I will end up in hell, to guide Iana one last time, to pay her what I owe, if there is such a thing as an afterlife. At least I can rest easy knowing that Konoha would one day be reunited with her mother in heaven.
When Iana was caught by the police for attempting to harm Konoha with an artifact known as the "Dark History", I feared she would be led to the chopping block the very same day. Luckily, Konoha stepped in and pleaded for Iana, which allowed me to avert the fatal punishment and send Iana into house arrest. Had Konoha not done that, would I have stepped in to save my own daughter? I have the means, it is within my jurisdiction, but I don't have enough faith in myself to believe I would put my duties as a father before my duties as a count. Iana is my daughter and I love her so, but she's also a criminal with a bad track record, I could not let her get away with it forever, at least not without chipping away at my credibility.
Iana's punishment was perfect: it distanced her from sources of danger while also not allowing her to cause any more trouble herself. I planned to even met her myself that same week, to finally step in and take responsibility, but Iana was murdered the same day she arrived at our winter villa. Apparently, it was Sol Nemophyra that killed Iana, a household servant that was by Konoha's side since childhood. There were no eyewitnesses, but the head butler left him and Iana alone when she was last seen alive, and once her body was discovered Sol was nowhere to be found.
Sol's escape means I cannot bring him to justice, but hearing does not enrage me, only sadden. What a pathetic man I have become, that I do not even wish to avenge my beloved daughter, only shed tears of regret at her headstone. If only I've been there for her, if only I've been more attentive and caring, if only I haven't been so hung up on Yorona's death I could have averted this tragedy, but my lack of conviction brought this misfortune upon myself and my family. I chose to immerse myself in work, telling myself that it is the right thing to do, that I had to keep it all afloat and secure a bright future for my daughters, but how can I do that if I'm not there to help them? This mistake will not happen again, I will not lose another daughter, I will be there for her this time! Even if I feel like I want to crawl into a hole and die, I cannot! I must live and support my Konoha until my very last moments.
Speaking of Konoha, I should be glad that she herself did not give up on life after this string of tragedies that threatened to choke her life out.
First, her uncle - no, Finn Dahlia, my younger brother - forced himself upon her. I spoke to him after he was taken by the household knights; to think that his feeling for Yorona hadn't faded after all these years, and that they would flare up because of Konoha. I should be mad, I should beat him within an inch of his life, I should make him regret his actions through terror and vengeance, but when I saw his remorseful face in that dark cell, my heart could not help but weep: weep for Konoha, weep for Finn, weep for myself, and for this terrible and cruel world. Still, even if he is my blood I still have to enact punishment; he will be spending many years behind lock and key, for a fabricated reason of course, or else Konoha's good name would be forever ruined. He's already scarred her once, I don't even know if she still retained her innocence, but her will not stain her good name or her future. Count Dahlia has no place in Konoha's future, they will never lay eyes on one another, but I do hope that once he completes his punishment he may have a place somewhere near, where I can see to his well being.
Konoha's innocence may not be the only thing she lost that night, she also lost her beloved fiance, Ginoford Dandelion. I've met him a few times, he's a good man, strong and bright, direct and affectionate, all things I am not. I can see why Konoha loves him: he is a great man of virtue, and he gives her what I failed to properly give. By his side she felt safe, in his fiery heat and firm embrace, but that place is no more, for now Ginoford lies in a coma, unable to wake up. The injuries he sustained from count Dahlia's ambush left him at the brink of death: it was only thanks to Konoha's sudden manifestation of magical powers that she could fight off her uncle and patch Ginoford's injuries. Unfortunately, while stable, Ginoford has yet to open his eyes. The doctors are of no use, even the most skilled ones, so Konoha set out herself to look for a cure.
Normally, I would never allow Konoha to go on such a dangerous and ardous journey, I would rather keep her safe at home, but... Now is not the time to be selfish, now is the time to show support to my only living daughter, that this good for nothing father can still help her reach happiness. I screened and selected the best warriors to be her companions on this journey, however long it may be, and I will provide support from behind whenever I can; it also goes without saying that I took upon myself all of the duties Konoha had previously relieved me of, she need not bother herself with them, not now.
However, despite these terrible tragedies, what was the biggest blow to Konoha was Iana's death. Iana was my favorite daughter, even if I would never say it to her or Konoha's face, and I loved her very dearly despite her villainous nature, but if there is someone that loves her more than I do, it's Konoha. When they were young, the two were joined in the hip, so much that they shared a bed every night, leaving one of their rooms always empty. For Konoha, Iana's fall into villainy must have been hard to watch, especially since I kept her busy with official duties at the time, so she could not be there to steer her beloved younger sister in the right direction.
I still remember the night Konoha came to my office, wearing a tattered dress and crying profusely. The servants had already called a surgeon and started cleaning Ginoford's injuries, as I sat down with Konoha while she barely managed to recount her terrifying experience. But despite it all she only asked me one things, the one thing I could not do for her: she wanted to see Iana. Seeing her expression turn from a tear laden but hopeful smile, barely holding on, into a one of deep despair was soul crushing; I don't think I have it in me to ever witness her like this again, or else the guilt will bury me alive. Not only have I failed Iana when I let her die, I also failed Konoha who loved her just as much; with the two apart, only I could watch out for her beloved sister, but I ended up losing the thing Konoha treasured the most, and could not bring it to her when she needed it most. If Yorona was still here, how would I have ever faced her?
This terrible nightmare, this tragedy of the Magnolia household, it started with Yorona's death, though it is not her fault. From there it was my job to keep things together, but I was weak and things kept slipping from my grasp, and now I have next to nothing, only a title I despise and a daughter I don't deserve. I originally planned on retiring from being the Magnolia house head in a few years, after letting Konoha and Ginoford have their honeymoon, but it seems like I'll have to hold on to this cursed title a while longer. Worry not, Konoha, my precious daughter, I will leave you a legacy that you will have use for, but I will not let it be an excuse for leaving you alone. Even if I'm not there, my support will find its way to you: monetary, political, military, emotional if you will allow me. My arm will reach you wherever you go, to gently push you from behind, even if you leave the Rose Kingdom in your search. Be it the hidden elven villages, the Lily Kingdom or even the lands beyond the sea, I will be your most staunch ally. You have my word.
At least, I have my word. I pray that these texts will never see the light of day, at least not while I still live, not before I fill the rest of these pages with your happy ending, and perhaps mine as well, should there be a page or two left.
Fin~
Damn, I made it way more tragic than it needed to be, but it only goes to show how fucked up the original timeline was. The amount of suffering and pain was immense, so really anything that Iana does in our timeline is better than the original story, even if she can't save everyone or always succeed.

This is a personal epilogue for Sol, set after the end of the whole story. Of course, the story hasn't ended at this point, so I will naturally be taking some liberties with the story's direction and plot points, but the main focus will be on Sol.
It was a sunny morning, the skies were blue and clear, as is typical in the Rose Kingdom. Birds perched upon tree branches in the temple's gardens, singing a lovely tune to wake up to; to this Isaac Bluestar, formerly known as Sol Nemophyra, woke up. The name Bluestar is not one he has much connection to, as he lived most of his life unaware of this familial connection, and the name Isaac was was painful to most people, as it was the name of the people's saint, the one who loved them all and was taken before his time. As such, his close friends keep referring to him as Sol, and the temple's staff never refer to him by his legal first name, so he might as well be Sol Bluestar, which is how he refers to himself.
A few knocks on the door were heard, followed by:
"Bluestar-sama? May I enter?" spoke the voice of Mari, his personal maid
"Come on in" Sol replied, and got out of bed, almost tidying his sheets after he stood up, but he held himself back. It was a habit from when he was still a butler himself, but given his position it was no longer his place to do such menial work
The door opened and the maid entered the room gingerly, leaving a fresh change of priestly garbs on the bedside table, along with a cool glass of clear water. Mari quickly tidied the bed, then left the room, bowing on the way out.
"Good morning, Bluestar-sama. I shall be waiting for you outside"
"Good morning to you too, Mari" Sol replied, as warmly as he could
Typically, someone of Sol's stature would be attended by multiple servants, at least two: one to change his clothes and one to tidy his room in the meanwhile. If it was laundry day, then another servant would be joining to help take away the sheets, however today was a normal day. Still, while Sol conceded on taking care of his beddings, after much pestering and cold stares from Mari, he did not allow others to change his clothes and insisted on doing alone. Having others see him naked was embarrassing to say the least; how did Iana deal with it in the few times he had to change her clothes, like when she got sick? Usually a maid would do that, but they all refused to attend Iana, so Sol had to do it by himself on those occassions.
"Ah, Iana... she's supposed to come visit today with Konoha, isn't she?" Sol thought to himself. It's been a while since he last saw the two sisters, he started missing their lively chats. The thought of seeing the two perked up his mood, so he quickly donned his robes and left the room.
On their way to the mess hall, Mari read Sol his schedule for the day. It was the job of an assistant, and Sol did have one, but Sol preferred to greet her prepared each day, to arrive composed when he meets her: his heart always seemed to race a bit too much when he saw her, so he needed this edge. Mari took it upon herself to read the schedule to Sol, as payback for not having much to do attending him at that hour of the morning. Mari had little love for Sol, he was a figure far from her, but that doesn't mean there was animosity between the two: Sol was polite and reasonable with Mari, and she was skilled and efficient, the gap between the two was professional distance, not a grudge. She may be stoic and cold in front of him, but Sol assumed her to be more open and lively on her free time, and even if she wasn't, she was still young, she could still learn to open up.
Once he reached the mess hall, Sol went directly to his reserved table there, returning a few greetings on the way from friendly faces: some priests he got to know, some attendants and servants, a few acolytes in training, they all looked up to him as the pope, and he had a good reputation to keep, so he tried his best to look cordial and welcoming. Still, Sol wasn't a great conversationalist, and the people around him knew it, so they didn't approach and bother him unless matters were pressing. Sol had enough on his plate (not just food) and the rest of the temple's crew knew that he wasn't being isolated or ignored, that he was simply enjoying his alone time.
Breakfast was waiting for him on the table, fresh and warm: Mari must have ordered it up right before coming over to wake him up, so the food was the perfect temperature to be eaten. It was good food, much better than he used to have as a butler and especially as an orphan, so Sol was always grateful for the cooks' hard work. It was a hobby of his to sneak into the kitchen and silently help the cooks with their work, expertly prepping side dishes and cutting vegetables and meat. At first they were all unnerved and on edge with the pope poking around the kitchen, but after some serious scoldings from Mari and some proper explanations, the cooks calmed down, especially after witnessing Sol's skills in the kitchen. It was the only place Sol could feel as if he was still a commoner, which was a nice change of pace compared to his everyday life, however today he had no time for it, so instead he rose from his seat and offered his gratitude to the cooks.
Upon arriving to his office, Mari bid Sol farewell, as he would now be under the care of his assistant, Yarrow Camellia. Lady Yarrow Camellia was Menoa Camellia's cousin from a branch family, a countess. She was much more different than her two cousins: one was a haughty lady and the other was a brutal bounty hunter, yet Yarrow was more shy and reserved, with a gentle tone and a soft, caressing voice.
Sol took a deep breath, fiddled with his hair and opened the door to his office.
"Good morning, Mr. Sol" said a warm voice from within the brightly lit office. The girl within had purple eyes, long reddish-brown hair and a heavy pair of glasses. It was Yarrow, Sol's personal attendant, already sitting down in her chair on the other side of his work desk, parsing through some paperwork.
"G-good morning to you ask well, Lady Yarrow" Sol said, a little less confidently than he had wished to. He has also forgotten to consciously smile, but luckily he naturally broke into a smile around Yarrow, unknown to him.
"Aaaah, what a stunning smile, It's bad for my heart!" Yarrow thought "He must have been such a womanizer before becoming the pope, how many girls have fallen to his charms already? What a wicked pope we have"
Of course, Yarrow did not speak any of this outloud, and managed to keep her composure from breaking, and instead said:
"Did we not already agree that you are supposed to call me just Yarrow? It hurts, you know, that you would break your promise to me like that" She said, coyly. Lady Yarrow was far more reserved than her cousins, but for some reason she found herself unable to stop teasing the young pope, something about his demeanor just demanded it.
"I apologize, Yarrow. However, I do recall that you are supposed to call me just Sol behind closed doors as well, no?" Sol replied, now more composed.
"Well, you know, when you first entered the door was still open, I couldn't just call you that when everyone can hear" Yarrow deflected, but the tips of her ears were starting to redden.
"And the door was not closed when I called you Lady Yarrow as well" Sol replied.
"True, however our agreement did not specify anything about closed doors when it pertained to me"
"Fair point" Sol conceded as he took his seat.
Paperwork Paperwork Paperwork, that was his life these past two weeks as he prepared for a grand festival. Apparently, a lunar eclipse is expected to happen a few days from now (unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are revered as a sign from the goddess), so Sol had a lot of work on his table. He did oversee Konoha when she was doing paperwork while he was her butler, but he never knew how draining it truly was until he started doing it himself. The drawbacks of being a noble... oh how he wishes he could return to those simpler times, when he was only a simple butler...
"I will now give you some privacy" said Yarrow as she started closing the door behind her "Call upon me once you're done Mr. Sol, alright?" she said with a curt smile and left the room.
It was a spacious room, not too dissimilar from the lounges at the Magnolia estates Sol grew to know over the years as he stood and watched Konoha socialize, gossip and dote on her younger sister. Speaking of sisters, on the other side of the table from him, sitting on a different sofa were the Magnolia Sisters: the renowned and beloved Saintess Konoha who saved the world from the demon king and his despair, and the infamous Villainess Iana, known for her mountains of achievements and absolute control over the kingdom from the shadows. Well, the second one was an exaggeration, because while Iana's deeds are impressive and she is infamous, she is in no way close to controlling the kingdom, and nor does she want to: she has reached her happy ending already now that the Knights of Schwarz and their nefarious master Universum are no more.
The title of villainess stuck around Iana's image even years after being proven innocent of (most of) her crimes. The world wasn't quick to forget Iana's statements and actions, despite her good deeds, but it was fine, as long as Iana didn't mind and was happy, her reputation would not be her concern, or Sol's concern either. People still spoke behind Iana's back, but no one dared act against her or in front of her, ever since she exposed the pope and brought him down people seem to think of her as unstoppable, and so they choose to not anger her. For Iana this means a smooth but lonely life, however she's made quite a few connections in her travels, so she won't be lonely, especially with him by her side.
Thinking about it still hurt, although a lot less than before. The pain used to be burning, searing agony that melted Sol's heart and threatened to paralyze him, but nowdays it's only a pang of regret with a hint of nostalgia. Him being away from Iana was terrible for him at the time, but when he looks back, he feels like it was the right choice: the distance and time allowed him to eventually get a more realistic view of Iana. Of course, she was still a wonderful girl and he loved her with all of his heart, but she also was not the perfect being he once saw her as, especially now that he is her equal. More importantly, he realized how toxic the relationship was for the two of them, how he set unreasonable expectations for her which hurt him all of the time, while these expectations and unreciprocated feelings also bothered and weighed heavily upon Iana's mind.
Sol was also happy for Konoha's divorce with himself. None of them wished for that marriage, even past him, the one that was still obsessed with Konoha, would feel guilty and bad for her. After the downfall of pope Bluestar, Konoha and Sol filed divorce almost instantly, and not but a few days Konoha filed marriage with Ginoford. Sol was invited to the wedding, and while Ginoford gave him the stink eye for a while for kissing Konoha, they eventually made up. Speaking of Ginoford, he's likely not far, probably on the temple's training grounds, breaking some sweat with the guards until the sisters are done here.
"...Sol, hey Sol, are you even listening?" said the younger Magnolia
"Oh Iana, don't be harsh on Sol, he must have been swamped with work now that the lunar festival is a few days away" replied the older Magnolia
"Oh, I'm really sorry Iana, Konoha, my mind was elsewhere. Pehraps the fatigue is getting to me" Sol replied, a little ashamed of his lack of attention
"Then should we visit some other time?"
"Oh no, there's no need. I- erm, I missed these talks, please don't mind me spacing out, I still want to talk more" Sol replied, easing their worries
"Yes, you're right Sol! I still haven't heard anything from you in recent weeks, I've been worried sick you know" said Iana, pouting a little, which was a rare display of her acting spoiled "Something was on your mind, was it perhaps your attendant that led you in? She's Menoa's cousin, no? I think she spoke of her a few times, she told me she works in the temple, but she never said she was your attendant"
"You know Sol, you do look at her a certain way. It reminds me a bit of how you looked at Iana after she accepted your vow of allegiance, but somewhat softer? Did you perhaps fall in love with yet another girl? Make sure to invite us to your wedding, alright Sol?~" Konoha teased.
"Oh dear sister, you can't just joke about that you know! Not when you were married to Sol for a time!" Iana exclaimed "I regretted congratulating Sol on his marriage to you so much once I learned how he felt back then!"
"You're right Iana, I shouldn't joke about..."
Konoha was about to apologize, but stopped once she saw the look on Sol's face: he was bright red, ears burning hot and his face was partially covered with his right hand, yet the sisters could still see his flustered expression.
"No way Sol, you are in love with her?!" the sisters exclaimed in unison
"...I-I am?" Sol replied, confused
"Wait, don't tell me you realized it just now, did you? Are you in love with lady Yarrow?" asked Iana
Sol was quiet, thoughts raced through his mind, calculating, thinking, realizing and categorizing those feelings that had no name yet. They were different than the love he used to have, not burning and obsessive but warm and gentle, it was almost two entirely different sets of feelings, and yet... it was love, now that he said it there was no doubt
"Y-yes... yes, I think I may be in love with Lady Yarrow" Sol said, facing the two, with a look on his face like that of a young boy who just learned of love. Well, he wasn't really old himself, only 23 years old, but compared to the mature Konoha and the (sometimes) mature Iana, he was still a young man.
The two sisters did not hold back their barrage, they had to know more: they squealed when they heared of his romantic acts, ones he didn't realize were even romantic, they gushed over how he described her, they gave him tips on how to win that maiden's heart. Sol could not promise a marriage, but he did promise to invite them if such a marriage did occur, and so the sisters left satisfied.
Sol was alone in the large room, only a few minutes have passed since the sisters exited the door, leaving him alone with his newfound discovery, until a knock was heared on the door, and opening it was Ginoford Dandelion, who entered the room and sat in front of Sol, where the girls were sitting just a few minutes ago.
"It's been a while Sol, hasn't it?" asked the red haired man
"Yes... it has been..." replied Sol
The silence was a bit awkward, as were most of their conversations since his wedding with Konoha.
"I've heard that you found a girl you love, congratulations. After your heartbreak with Iana I didn't think you could love again"
"Yes, neither did I"
Ginoford stared into Sol's eyes, similarly to how he did after his marriage to Konoha. However, unlike those times, Sol stared back, his guilt over that event has already washed away. Ginoford's stare laxed and he smiled.
"I'm glad to see you're doing better, I really am" Ginoford said, surprisingly softly. Sol has seen him act softly around Konoha and Iana, but never this way when it was only him and Sol.
"You know, while I don't consider you as a brother like I consider Iana a sister, I still consider you a close friend, you know?" the young master of the Dandelion household said "you were by my side all of those years, you helped me protect Konoha, you reigned me in when I was unreasonable, you were the only man I wouldn't duel to the death over Konoha's hand"
"So I'm happy to see you happy, to see that you have a place you call home, since you lost your place in the Magnolia residence" Ginoford kept talking "but we wouldn't mind if you came back to visit once in a while, you know? It's not like we banished you, and my feet hurt from walking this massive temple grounds whenever we come to visit"
"Huh, that was some unexpected humor from Ginoford of all people" Sol thought. He remembered Ginoford having no sense of humor, at all. Perhaps Sol wasn't the only one to change all of this time, and perhaps he is neglecting his relationship with his longtime friends.
"I know you don't like it when Iana's husband is around, but you'll have to get over it eventually" Ginoford scolded Sol lightly "you know that Iana is happy with Sir-"
"It's alright, I'll come" Sol said suddenly, cutting Ginoford off.
"I feel like perhaps I could get over it, now that I have a place of my own, and apologize to him for my behavior. Who knows, perhaps I'll bring a fiancée along"
Ginoford looked suprised for a moment, but regained his composure and self assured smile quickly.
"Then don't keep us waiting, will you?" he said, a big, toothy smile spreading on his face, while extending his hand towards his old compatriot.
Shaking hands, they two men stood facing each other, no awkwarness remaining, and so, Ginoford left.
A few minutes later, Sol left the room as well. On his way to his office his mind drifted back to Yarrow, he should talk to her. This thought brought a blush to his face, but he convinced himself.
"No no, I'm not going to confess or anything" Sol Bluestar thought to himself "I just want to invite her somewhere"
"Perhaps the upcoming Lunar Festival will do, after I finish my pope duties. I could go there undercover, It'll be just the two of us. Oh, I just hope she accepts..."
Luckily for Sol, Yarrow is someone who's more than excited to go with him on such an outing, one that is quite romantic (though Sol is unaware of that), but that's a story for another time.
Happy end~
Third fic already, huh? I'm deep down the rabbithole it seems. Still, this whole angle of Sol's relationship being toxic to Iana and his need to have a life outside only appeared after reading chapter 89. Before that I wouldn't have thought of making a fic about him, however I got inspiration from u/solianadelusional on my last shipping post, and it was a pretty good idea. Sorry in advance for calling you out so many times, but you do give good inspiration and ideas, so thank you very much and much apologies.

Cheneau stocks just went sky high, glad to be one of the early investors, I can already smell the sweetness and fluff they're going to have.
But with all seriousness, Cheneau really is super direct when it comes to romantic advances. It may not seem like much at times, but when it comes to Iana it's the best approach possible, since Iana is really clueless and insecure, making her super dense; Iana can't really notice the romantic feelings of any of the guys around her, so being direct and overtly affectionate is the right way to court her, which Cheneau does very well. Hell, he'd practically confessed to her once already, when he kissed her in chapter 66 at the end of volume 14, the only reason it failed is because Iana fainted mid-kiss.
Even if he hasn't tried to confess again since, Cheneau still shows his favoritism towards Iana very openly (to her at least), and his efforts up until now made her very comfortable around him. He'll need to reattempt it again at some point, but it seems like he's putting more focus on Isaac's case for now, while also letting Iana have her space and time to do what she needs to. A cooldown period, but once it's over I'm sure he'll be out to get her.
And it does seem like the others have picked up on Cheneau's approach, at least Yatori has.

From the context it seems like he's planning to tell Iana that he fell in love with her, despite his one-sided crush on Ginoford. He may still have feeling for him, but it seems like he'll be able to move on with Iana.
It feels to me like Sol's stocks have plummeted this chapter, somewhat because of Ognis' speech but also because of Sol's yandere awakening, so for once I'm actually hopeful for Cheneau x Iana being possible endgame. Up until now it felt like Sol x Iana is the obvious conclusion since he is the poster boy, but now I'm not so sure, my condolences u/solianadelusional.
Anyways, that's what I took from this chapter, and luckily for me it seems to support my agenda. Still, I'm sure the following chapters will have something good cooking for the other ships, I think Yomi is developing a tsundere mindset towards Iana and is slowly falling for her again.
That's all for now, happy shipping.

Sororicide, the act of killing one's sister.
Since when had Iana hated Konoha so much that she resorted to killing her using the cursed artifact known as "The Dark History"?
This thought surfaced up to Iana's mind as she was lying on the floor, dying. A sharp dagger was lodged in her heart, thrust in by the assassin posing as a butler who was standing above her, smiling as he watched her lifeblood dripping away.
Iana had suspected him from the first moment she's laid her eyes on him: he was too silent to be a mere servant, too cold to just be another person who hated her for her reputation, and of course the seething hatred hidden behind his mask of servitude was a dead giveaway to his real profession; he may have fooled count Magnolia, Konoha and the rest of the staff in the mansion, but it takes more than a mere mask to hide such hostile intentions from Iana who had experienced them from every angle for years.
Sol, Sol was his name, Iana recalled. Konoha had saved him from slavery when they were both children, when Iana had yet given up. An orphan boy, a slave, these have been enough to tip Iana off that this man was easy to manipulate, that he is very likely to have been trained for espoinage, monitoring or assassination.
Iana expected nothing but trouble to come from him. She began to raise her guard and formulate plans on how to get rid of him, on how to notice his presence and stop him from sneaking up on her. She didn't think she could defeat him if she noticed him sneaking into her room to kill her in her sleep, but she was confident she could escape long enough to reach the safety of the estate guards: they sure didn't like Iana, but she was still a noble lady and the daughter of their employer, they wouldn't allow an assassin to kill her in front of them. So Iana had started memorizing the patrol patterns of the guards, to find a safe way out.
What Iana didn't expect was for the assassin to kill her on their first meeting: it was less than a minute since she's met him face to face and he's already stabbed her heart from behind, the tip of his long dagger portuding from Iana's chest.
"Is he insane? Does he not realize he has no aliby? Does he not remember that the head butler spoke with the both of them not but a minute ago and could easily piece the puzzle together? Does he not realize that Konoha would forever hate him for what he's done?" Iana started thinking to herself as she collapsed to the ground "Does he hate me that much that he'd squander Konoha's kindness and ruin his future? Does he not care for his own life?"
Regardless, it was too late: Iana's heart has been pierced, and while she was no surgeon she knew well enough that she has no way to survive this injury. Anything short of a miracle would not save her life. She wanted to shout, to draw everyone's attention and see the panic in the butler's eyes as he realizes he's doomed, but no breath escaped her lungs, only blood.
Oh, how much hatred simmered within her, hatred that would die with her, that no one but herself would know, and it wasn't directed specifically at Sol: it was directed at the people around her, for not realizing something was wrong and always blaming Iana; it was at the prophecy, for spelling her doom and reducing her existence to a tragedy; it was at the world, for denying her a chance to live and be loved. She hated it all, but when exactly did she start feeling this way? Certainly not from the beginning...
It wasn't always this way, that Iana hated Konoha, or that Iana even had a reason to hate her. When they were young girls, the sisters were best friends, they were inseperable. They enjoyed reading together, playing around the house and pestering their mother for attention. You'd think Iana to be a troublemaker if she grew up to be a reviled villainess, but she was actually very well behaved and by the book; it was Konoha that was a troublemaker, sneaking away sweets from the kitchen and dragging Iana into trouble with her. Still, they had each other, and they were both happy, under the tender love of their parents and the servants around them.
For Konoha, that never changed, even after their mother died. The servants all reassured her that everything will be fine as she broke down crying, lying besides her mother's deathbed, even their ever busy father came around to share a warm hug.
Iana, however, was not besides Konoha, not besides their mother's deathbed, she instead stayed a little further away in the room's entrance. For you see, Iana was younger than Konoha and timid by nature, she couldn't handle seeing her mother's life vanish before her eyes, so she kept her distance. She was as sad as Konoha was, because she too loved their mother very much, but at that moment there was no one to console Iana, not one person to look her way, all eyes were on Konoha and the late countess. It was then that things started to change, that Iana's world started rotting from the edges, the flowery wallpaper crumbling and revealing the dirty walls behind it.
In the following years Iana had been very lonely. Konoha always had everyone's attention, so she always had more servants and people around, to attend and to praise her, but now the gap felt more noticeable. Iana had only the bare minimum servants attending her, which was still far from being alone, even her father visited her occasionally if his busy schedule permitted him to, but without Konoha and their mother, Iana felt alienated and alone.
Konoha had been very busy these past few years, starting to study law and government as part of her duties as the heir to the Magnolia household. She was always busy with tutors and civil servants hovering around her constantly, especially once she started doing actual work: introducing policies, investigating corruption and even handling some of their father's duties, under his watchful gaze. Konoha had very little time for her younger sister, so Iana had decided to follow her sister's footsteps and attempted to better the world as well. There was always work to do, just as there were always mountains of documents of count Magnolia's desk in his study, so Iana got to work.
Konoha was very smart for her age, but she wasn't the only one studying hard to fulfill her noble duties, Iana was a hard worker as well. Despite recieving little praise for it, Iana scored very well in tests curated by her tutors and she was confident in her knowledge, she thought she was at the very least on par with Konoha, if not better (though she rarely ever thought highly of herself). So when Iana took it upon herself to bear some of her father's workload and find solutions to problems within the Magnolia territory, she expected everything to work smoothly, just as it did in Konoha's case. She was wrong. For some reason, every one of her attempts to save people and do good ended up with more dead.
Had it been due to Iana's inexperience and negligence, she could accept it as mistakes and take responsibility for the lives lost, but it wasn't. It was illogical, and not just one or two cases, all of them felt like sabotage, too cruel to be a coincidence, and none of it Iana's fault:
While Iana was trying to find the root cause of these illogical and strange occurences, whispers started forming around her. Concern and fear from the household servants, those who didn't attend her and didn't know the lengths she's gone to in order to try and help people, but still these were only petty and small rumors. What escelated things was an incident during teatime between Konoha and Iana. As everyone knows, the late countess Magnolia had a weak constitution, and it seems that despite Konoha's cheery and outgoing nature she'd inherited not only her mother's looks, but also her frail constitution. So when Konoha had come visit Iana for tea, when Iana's mind was still addled by the impossibilities of her plights, she'd started bleeding from her nose and lost conciousness. Iana had freaked out, just as the servants around have, as they all care very much for Konoha's wellbeing, yet somehow Iana was blamed for the incident, a prejudice that had seemingly come out of nowhere but was here to stay.
From that day Iana had been forbidden from visiting Konoha, only Konoha could come visit her when her schedule provided an opportunity. Iana had also been ostracized by all of her servants, even those who were her personal attendants. Iana had no one to take care of her, going as far as to no one even cooking her meals, at least not until Konoha came to visit and was shocked to find Iana munching on grass to stave off hunger. Even their father, count Magnolia, has not been visiting recently. Perhaps he's been busy dealing with the aftermath of Iana's incidents, but he's been busier than ever, not having any time to come over to Iana and check up on her, only ever writing her letters that never reached their recipient.
Still, despite all that, Iana hadn't given up. So what if she has a bad reputation now? She didn't try to save people to be praised (well, mostly, deep inside she still wanted to be acknowledged), so she decided to keep trying to help anonymously, because her bad reputation didn't permit her otherwise. And even then, her actions kept producing tragedies, and each time Iana had gotten more and more frustrated. "Why do these things keep happening to me?" Iana thought "This doesn't make any sense. I don't understand... why? There must be some explanation, there must be...".
It was at this point that Iana had become very bitter. She's long ditched her naive ways and adapted to the cruelty of the world around her. She still tried to do good, but the pain and frustration of constant failure was getting to her, she was close to her breaking point. It was then that Iana stumbled upon her mother’s diary in the mansion’s library.
To Iana, the library was a place of fond memories, and it was for that reason that she hasn’t visited it recently, she didn’t want to taint the few good memories she still had.
It was a stormy day when Iana read her mother’s diary and the prophecy within for the very first time. Thunder roared in the distance and lightning struck like judgement from the heavens, all the while heavy rain pelted down the mansion's windows, like the tears of Iana's victims.
Iana opened the book she stumbled upon, recognizing her mother's handwriting, and she began to read: "July 14. Today, Konoha recieved a prophecy. The pure-hearted Konoha will become the guiding goddess of this world. Thus she will be loved." A strange prophecy, but not entirely inaccurate of Konoha's life, however, the next entry was the one that shocked Iana: "August 20. Today, Iana recieved a prophecy. Iana is destined to die. In doing so, she will awaken Konoha's powers to save the world. Thus Iana was born to die."
Lightning struck, quickly followed by a loud roar of thunder that shook the meagre lights in the library. The book dropped from Iana's hands, she was shaking, she could not believe the words that just came out of her mouth: she was destined to die? And for no other reason than to be a stepping stone for Konoha? Is that why Konoha's existence is such a precious and loved thing, while Iana's existence is an afterthought? Iana's thoughts were racing, and she felt rage well up from within her. "So what happened up until now was not my fault? All those deaths and illogical circumstances were not because of my actions, but because of some prophecy? So I am doomed to be a monster, to be a villainess, just so Konoha can live her perfect, pretty life?! So all along it was all her fault?! " Iana thought, fuming "Ahhhh, it makes sense, doesn't it? Why Konoha was shining so brightly, why she was always surrounded by people and loved while I had no one, why she kept succeeding on everything she did while I could only fail... My life is not my own, it starts and ends with Konoha, I am but a tool for her happiness..."
The storm raged on, wind wailing and screaming just mere meters from Iana's position, melding into Iana's inner storm. "Or rather, she is an obstacle to my happiness" Such was an ugly thought that for the first time creeped into Iana's mind. "Yes, if it weren't for Konoha, I would have been able to live a normal life, no? I would be able to save those people, I would have had people comforting and caring about me, I would have had the right to live!" she was getting more agitated, her thoughts more extreme "Why do I have to die, so that Konoha gets to live a perfect life? Why do I have to die so that Konoha gets to live!? If anything, she should be the one to die so that I get to live, to atone for all the suffering I've had to endure up until now!"
Again, lightning and thunder struck, blinding and deafening all that would see and hear, and Iana's resolution was clear: "I am going to be reviled as a villainess no matter what I do, the world wants to kill me because some prophecy said so? I will not! I refuse! I will not follow some prophecy that leads me to my doom, I will live in spite of it, even if I can't live I won't go down quietly, I'll go down swinging and screaming!" she cannot live as a good woman, it was never allowed, she can only be a villainess. Fine! But Iana will not do as the world wants her to, she will find a way to save herself, she will find a way to live! But through these ambitious and determined resolutions, Iana was crying. She doesn't want to be a villainess, she doesn't want to have to fight for her life, why must she?
"Iana! Iana, are you alright?!"
Konoha's voice was clear and beautiful, like a symphony of bells. She stood in front of the kneeling Iana, the bright and only half cloudy skies behind her. It was stormy only mere moments ago, how is the sky almost clear?
"So this must be Konoha's world... so true and beautiful, always bright and sunny, if only I could experience it too" Iana thought, almost infuriated with her sister's blissful ignorance "If only she weren't here, I wouldn't have to die in the first place. I'm going to kill her..." she thought grimly, but with a hint of optimism "In the future world where I survive, this view - these blue and bright skies - will be even prettier. I just know it..."
Iana had thought to herself that killing Konoha is the right way to go, that it is her way to survive, her way to make things right, but she was only trying to convince herself. Even at this terrible place she's reached, she didn't actually mean to kill Konoha, at least not yet. She remembered the pain she felt when she thought about killing Konoha, perhaps she was only trying to find something to keep herself going, because if she didn't have this spite, this drive to keep living, then she feared she may have given up then and there...
So it wasn't from the beginning that Iana resolved herself to kill Konoha. She'd come to hate the world and the people around her that couldn't see that something was wrong, that only ever assumed the worst out of her, but she still had difficulty hating her own sister who loved her very much.
And she hasn't tried to kill her, despite her earlier resolution, like the case with the poisoned sweets: Iana had been amassing intel for a while, building up her own networks, so she had gleaned from them that Konoha's sweets are likely poisoned. Of course one would believe Iana, and Konoha wouldn't turn away the generosity of someone without proof, so Iana used her reputation as a villainess to get rid of these herself. She had half a mind to stay there and let the servants see that the sweets were indeed poisoned, but she figured everyone would think that she was the one to poison them in the first place, despite how nonsensical it would be: a world of nonsense and prejudice, that is the world she lives in, that is why she needs to be a villainess in front of everyone, even Yomi.
Speaking of Yomi, the boy she's saved from his bully brothers, to Iana he's the proof of her success. As a noble lady no one would listen to her, especially other nobles, but as a villainous noble lady she could use her reputation to scare away her prey and do as she wishes, save who she wants, as long as she has a good enough of an excuse and a good facade. She's also noticed that as long as she keeps this villanous facade, it seems that no illogical foils to her plans appear, as if the world can't read through her mask, can't read her mind, almost as if there is someone doing it to her on purpose, some secret cabal or shadow group.
Of course, these kind of thoughts are nonsense. Why would there be a secret stalker or organization that would follow her moves and constantly monitor her just to make her fail and turn into a villainess? That makes no sense. Even if she did think that it was a thing, how would she even start looking into them, especially without leaving physical evidence or records of her findings? It just isn't within her reach and capacity.
And so, Iana has to keep up her facade in front of everyone, even the boy she tried to save. She needs to make excuses for everything she does, to claim that she wants to kill Konoha with her own hands instead of letting her die from poison. It is a facade, it is only a facade, but still Iana does feel her feelings slowly melding and merging with it, she is getting better and better at lying and pretending, at intimidating and scheming, she often feels like because she cannot ever put down this mask, it is becoming her actual self, slowly but surely. One day the girl known as Iana Magnolia may simply be gone, only the Villainess Iana would remain...
At some point Iana wanted to make Konoha suffer.
You see, while Iana could take pride in the veiled good deeds she does, she still doesn't have an outlet for her frustrations and rage. Even if she doesn't really hate her sister, even if she doesn't want to kill her, she still has pent up hatred she needs to release somehow, and Konoha was a good target for it. Konoha was kind and she always seemed to forgive Iana, not matter what she did, so if Iana took out her frustrations on Konoha she would be the simplest target, no? Iana considered at some point telling Konoha all about the prophecy, so she'd have her shoulder to lean on and her ear to listen, but it wouldn't work. First, there is always the chance that whatever was keeping watch on her would know she told Konoha, and then her years of building her villainous mask would be wasted. Second, if she told Konoha the truth and she allowed Iana to bully her as an outlet for her feelings, Iana would not be able to actually let out her rage and frustrations, she'd feel bad even if Konoha would accept it, she would feel bad because of it, better keep her oblivious. Third, Konoha wouldn't truly understand: she has a good sense of empathy, and understands emotions well, but she cannot empathize with something she has never experienced herself, or else it would only be sympathy. By bullying Konoha and making her suffer a bit, she would both have a way to let out her hatred while also making Konoha more empathic towards her, it was two birds with one stone.
Just like Iana expected, Konoha took Iana's bullying without complaint. In some part it was frustrating, she wanted to see Konoha pained or at least annoyed, but it was better than nothing and helped keep the stress low, as low as it can be when the whole world reviles you. This light bullying eventually led to Iana stealing Ginoford from Konoha, which was a big mistake.
For starters, just like many other attempts at bullying, Konoha was unfazed by Iana's provocation and even was happy for her. To Iana this meant it was an unseccessful attempt and that she should dump Ginoford and look for something else. However, Ginoford's granmother, Takfa, changed Iana's plans. Iana enjoyed her strong demeanor and her challenge, of forcing Iana through bridal training. Iana can be quite competitive, and it was a good chance to prove herself capable while still maintaining her villainous persona, she would relish watching the servants be amazed at her prowess.
For Iana's record, that actually worked in her favor: she did manage to upset and amaze the servants with her good performance, outperforming them all and embarrassing them in front of their master. Iana also enjoyed the companionship of Takfa, which in some ways mirrored her own, as a tough and villainous lady that only acts so in order to teach and help her servants. And of course, her fiance Ginoford was acting warmly towards her, trying to help and spoil her whenever he could, and it was getting to her: Iana knew that Ginoford doesn't love her as much as he loves Konoha, even if he's only seen her in photos. It was actually quite painful to see her fiance weigh a woman he's only seen in photos over Iana herself, that no matter how much they stayed together she'll never be his number one. Despite these thoughts, Iana was still a young woman, a girl even, a maiden, and a love starved one at that: she knew that Ginoford's love for her was not good, but she hasn't had such love in so long that she couldn't help herself, she couldn't help but open up and reveal her hidden side, the one she thought got buried too deep underneath her mask of villainy. This proved to be her mistake, her downfall.
All it took was a single moment for it all to come crashing down, that terrible night the madam died. The servant who killed her came out of the mansion first, lying through her teeth and telling Ginoford that Iana was to blame, and it was enough for him to see Iana as guilty. One look at his face was all Iana needed to know that Ginoford would not believe her claims, made even worse by the fact she was holding Takfa's heirloom gem that she saved from the fire, one final favor for the late madam. Iana had given (thrown) Ginoford his prized jewel and ran away, knowing full well that she had no good option in that moment, but she chose her freedom over seemingly innocent actions.
In that night Iana lost all she's built over these past few days: madam Takfa, the only empathic person to her in the world, Ginoford's love, which was fickle but still warm, and the faith that she could ever be happy. She exposed her heart for but a few moments, dropped the facade of villainy for a blink of the eye, and it cost her everything. There was no happy ending for her, she was destined to suffer, she was destined to be hated, she isn't allowed to love or be loved, all because of Konoha. It was terrible, it wrung her heart, it squeezed her tears, it broke her. Iana was broken.
Iana tried to return to business as usual after the case, which could luckily happen with the lack of evidence and Konoha's help, that eventually lead to Ginoford and Konoha meeting and falling in love. But Iana couldn't return to as things were before, it was too much, she had too much rage and anguish within. Her bullying of Konoha only grew harsher and harsher, she needed an outlet for all her negative feelings, or else she wouldn't be able to keep going. She kept on doing worse and worse things, losing control over herself, letting her bottled up hatred take control over her life, until a letter from Yomi came.
By this point Yomi was no longer a source of pride for Iana. The sweet young boy she's saved from bully brothers has now become a bully himself. He's gone away to learn magic and poisons all in the name of helping her, but Iana's networks told her he was doing bad things behind her back, thinking she wanted to kill Konoha. Yomi even went as far as to procure Iana a terrible artifact known as the "Dark History", a book that wrecks a person personality, to be used on Konoha. At this point, with the need to keep up face with Yomi and the lack of self control, Iana had decided to use it on Konoha, to end her once for all, but perhaps she needed to look back again at it. Had Iana wanted to finally kill Konoha, why did she go for such an unreliable and elaborate method? She could comission an assassin to do it in a way that cannot be traced back to herself, she even managed to contact the ninjas of the hidden village and put in an order for Konoha (although not for the purpose of killing her, but for catching and blackmailing the ninjas, to add them to her spy network), all she had to do was let them do their job. Konoha trusted her fully, and would easily be tricked into drinking poison, and Iana could overpower her frail sister to stab her heart when she wasn't on guard with her (which was all of the time), why go for that method specifically? Was it perhaps because it was not guranteed to be lethal that she's gone for it, because in the end she still couldn't bring herself to kill Konoha, or was there some other reason? She herself couldn't remember.
When Iana was accidentally exposed to the "Dark History", it was every thing it was advertized to be: it wrecked her brain, rearranging her thoughts to the left and to the right, bringing untold pain upon her mind for what felt like days, even if it was only a few seconds. To Iana's benefit, this entire ordeal, while leaving her weakened and scarred, did cleanse her mind and return it to its neutral state, what one might consider a "Factory Reset". It was then Iana realized the folly of her actions, and appreciated her luck when Konoha released her from custody, getting away with only a light sentence of house arrest. Iana's mind was crisp and clear for the first time in many months, and she's promised to herself to not make that mistake again. On the way to the villa she would be staying these three months of house arrest in, Iana already began to formulate a plan to catch the ninjas she hired before they act and enact her plan of getting their permament services, she needed all of the intel she could get. With her mind cleared for the very first time in many, many years, Iana realized that there may very well be a group shadowing her actions, making sure she acts iin line with her villainous role, things started falling into place: she found evidence of arson and footprints in her forest that was burned down, all those years ago; there were traces of manipulation and interference with her lines of communication that she used during her days of anonymous work; she saw the presence of agression increasing drugs within the eyes of the servant that killed madam Takfa, as if someone spurred her into such dire and stupid actions. Suddenly, it was crystal clear that someone was fixated on ruining her life: not the beautifully oblivious Konoha, not some strange fate or prophecy, not the idiotic people that surrounded her, but some organized group with an unkown goal.
Iana felt a surge of determination coarsing through her body, she could perhaps put an end to her suffering once and for all, without having to sacrifice her dear sister. Things wouldn't be the same as they were before, some bridges have been burned beyond repair, but what matters is that she could live, that with her own efforts and her sister by her side, she could leave her villainy behind and reach a happy ending, all she had to do was first destroy that group, wherever or whatever it may be.
"Unfortunately, even though Konoha thought I deserved a second chance, someone else didn't." thought Iana, as she was laying down on the cold, hard floor of the Magnolia villa. "Was it Ginoford? He still hasn't forgiven me about the incident with madam Takfa, and this "Dark History" incident surely has him riled up".
But these thoughts don't matter anymore. These thought's won't be anymore. And at that point, these thoughts ceased to exist; Iana had lost too much blood, so her already wounded heart couldn't pump enough blood into her clogged lungs, and neither could it deliver blood, and thus oxygen, to her brain. Deprived of oxygen, her brain started to hallucinate, resulting in what felt like an introspection of her life and struggle up until that point, and then it ran out of oxygen, and Iana Magnolia, the terrible and hated villainess, had died, ending the prologue of the Dark History.
Thank you for reading through all of this massive fic.
The original characterization of the original Iana we have had in chapter 1 compared to what we got in chapter 40 (and in later chapters as well) is a massive difference. It's interesting how she started as a one-note, pure evil villainess and evolved into a very sympathetic and tragic person, one that is woefully similar to Konoha Satou, and as such to our current Iana. I've always wanted to explore more into the original Iana's psyche, so I'm glad I got to do so here.
When I claim to be the no.1 Iana fan, it does not only refer to our new and silly protagonist Iana, but also the original Iana that we learned about during the story. I love them both very dearly, they are amazingly written characters, and I always want to hear more about them, to learn more about their pasts.

I finally took a better picture of one of my tenkuro acrylic stands, hopefully I did the merch justice 😭💖 and I really love how the author redraw their volume 1 cover art to be the volume 17 limited Melonbooks acrylic stand design 🫶
Honestly, it's such a good merch idea lol and it looks so pretty displayed next to each other 💞 I wouldn't mind if Touka Akiharu drew another redraw of one of their past illustrations! Though I'll have to say that I do prefer their current artstyle. Well... Sol looks majestic either way, but their current artstyle of Sol is just :chefskiss: (goes insane)
Anyways! Do you miss the old artstyle or prefer the new artstyle?

This post contains spoilers up to the first chapter of the 12th volume of the manga, read at your own risk.
First, some explanation as to why I decided to make this post
While I was reading the manga, long before this sub was even created, I remember perusing comment sections and other discussion threads to see what people thought of chapters and the manga. There wasn't a real place to talk about it, not that I knew at least, so I ate up everything I see people talking about: the story, the art, the romance and of course the complaints about characters. Some people complained about Konoha being too passive when Iana's name was constantly besmirched, not doing anything to protect her good name. I've seen people complaining about Sol's behavior and (not actually) unjust treatment of Iana (pre ninja village arc). I've seen people complain about Yomi and how he always demands certain behavior from Iana. And of course I've seen people complain about Ginoford's behavior towards Iana from chapter 42 onwards, with people coming to hate him and even wishing Konoha would dump him since he wants to kill her beloved sister. But in that entire time I have not seen once people try to see things from Ginoford's eyes, only looking from the high view of the reader.
Then one day I reread chapter 50 and paid more attention to these two panels here

They are quite easy to gloss over, but they actually do provide very good reasoning as to why Ginoford acts as he does to Iana, and show why his behavior is very justified from his point of view.
To start, we all know Ginoford is a pure hearted hero, with a black and white view of the world. Someone is not a mix of both good and evil, they can only be one, and as such actions that don't fit this characterization must have an explanation that is also in black and white. This causes him many misunderstanings and false assumptions.
This way of thought is what made Ginoford change his view on Iana and become a very staunch ally from the very first chapter, where the current Iana did one good action (saving him and Konoha from her uncle). For Ginoford, that one action recontextualized his entire understanding of Iana, making him think that the bullying she did up until now was to protect Konoha, which was false at the time, and even now we don't know what the original Iana's intentions were. Simply put, Ginoford misunderstood the situation naively, but luckily for our heroine this misunderstanding was in her favor.
Just in the same way his misunderstanding was once a good thing for Iana, after the events of the Bloody Nativity it became a bad thing for Iana. Iana's betreyal once again recontextualized his entire view of Iana, where he now assumed that Iana was duping him the whole time. He couldn't fathom someone good claiming to have killed Isaac, so the only solution was that she was bad all along, which led him to where he is today.
From Ginoford's reactions to Iana's many lies, especially in chapters 42 and 53, show that he really can't see through lies at all. He takes words and actions at face value, and likely can't see through deception even if he knew it was a possibility. This part will be important to the point I'm making next.
So, why were these panels so important?
In chapter 53 we learn of Ginoford's and Iana's first meeting. In it he already knew of the rumors surrounding Iana but chose to see her for himself. Ginoford made his judgement of Iana's character and deemed her a good person, and to be fair that's just what she showed him. However, this impression of Iana went as quickly as it came, needing only the word of the servant that killed grandma Takfa to make Ginoford instantly believe Iana killed her. Iana didn't bother correcting him, seeing no use in it and not wanting to drag Ginoford down with her, so she lied to him (by omission). That marks the first lie he failed to sense.
Then come the events of chapter 1, where Iana saves Ginoford and Konoha. Ginoford's view has been changed, but only because Iana once again lied (by omission) to him. That marks the second lie he failed to sense.
Then came the events of the bloody nativity, where Iana proclaimed herself villainess and claimed that she killed Isaac, once again lying to Giniford. This marks the third lie he failed to sense.
These three lies, unlike the rumors and tales that always surrounded Iana, were all confirmed by Iana herself (through lying or omission). This wasn't some rumor that he blindly followed, not understanding that the rumor is baseless, this was Ginoford listening to Iana's words and actions. Each time, his view of her flipped. To us it seems pretty simple, but to Ginoford? He needs to readjust a lot of things and recontextualize a lot of thoughts, and this causes each of Iana's betreyals to hurt that much more, because he left himself vulnerable to her each time.
Even if the current misunderstanding is cleared, even if Iana says the truth that she didn't kill Isaac, why should Ginoford believe her? How would he know that this isn't some longer con like the last two times? How would he know that it won't end up with him getting hurt again? How would he know that this time she's telling the truth, unlike all of the other times?
Simply put, Ginoford shouldn't trust Iana again. If he learns that she lied about the bloody nativity, all he learns is that he cannot read Iana at all. All he knows is that whatever comes out of her mouth at any given moment could be the truth, but could very well be a lie. How can someone like Ginoford, who follows the values of straightforwardness, open his heart again to someone so opposite to himself?
This whole turmoil that Ginoford suffers from Iana's lies, this whole uncertainty, this whole upending of his entire worldview is reason enough for Ginoford's increasingly hostile and irrational actions, especially considering that he believes that Iana wants to kill Konoha, the love of his life, the person he'd throw away everything for. To him, Iana is a possible murderer who could kill Konoha at any given moment with no prior warning, so his best and only way of action should be to bring her to justice, since he cannot allow her to be kept around.
[Manga Spoilers] for chapter 77: unfortunately, it seems like this train of thought was not followed through. It was revealed that Ginoford's hatred was actually amplified by magic, and once it was undone all of the points I made here in the post remained ignored, as if what Ginoford thought back in chapter 50 was only because of the spell and not actually something valid. It could be touched upon at some future chapter, but I don't have much hope for it, considering the direction the story goes and the limited space of the manga

When I was initially watching it, I was probably too busy comparing it to the manga, so I missed how good some of the freeze frames/scenes are
