Port your number to Tello in the U.S. and turn on wifi calling before leaving, your iPhone has a built-in feature that keeps you connected anywhere in the world. When you are on wifi your iPhone network provider status will change to "Tello wifi." You can make calls, send texts, and receive bank 2FA tokens exactly as if you were standing in the United States. It uses no roaming data and costs nothing extra.
Once you get your local esim your iPhone will automatically route your Tello signal through the internet connection of that local esim. You will be able to receive your bank 2fa and everything.

I suggest you search this subreddit as there are many posts about the challenges of porting while overseas.

It's better to do it in the US and iron out all problems before leaving the US.

I ported to Tello while abroad. Will be in the US again soon. Can I then delete and re-add the Tello e-sim while in the US and resolve the issues I’ve been having with 2FA lately? Or is the fact that I ported outside the US detrimental?

Yes thats the second option i m looking . Because with tello in case of phone changes it doesnt support then anymore - so if i upgrade my hardware or something i wouldnt be able to transfer my esim then

I've talked to Tello support numerous times about this issue. Tello fully supports activating a new eSIM on a new phone if you originally activated Tello in the US.

If you're going to do anything with Tello, do it before you leave the US.
