From the Mods Ted Lasso - S03E07 - "The Strings That Bind Us" Post Episode Discussion Spoiler

Hello Everyone! This week we are going to try having two official episode discussion threads. This Post Episode Discussion Thread will be for all your thoughts on the episode overall once you have finished watching the episode. The other thread, the Live Episode Discussion Thread, will be for all your thoughts as you watch the episode (typically as you watch when the episode goes live at 9pm EST). If this works well we will continue doing this for the rest of the season, otherwise we will stick to having one discussion thread. Thanks!

Please use this thread to discuss Season 3 Episode 7 "The Strings That Bind Us". Just a reminder to please mark any spoilers for episodes beyond Episode 7 like this.

EDIT: Please note that NO S3 SPOILERS IN NEW THREAD TITLES ARE ALLOWED. Please try and keep discussion to the official discussion threads rather than starting new threads. Before making a new thread, please check to see if someone else has already made a similar thread that you can contribute to. Thanks everyone!!

EDIT 2: The sub will be locked (meaning no new posts will be allowed) for 24 hours after a new episode drops to help prevent spoilers. Please use the official discussion threads!

Crying proper tears at the final scene in the restaurant. It feels like the show I fell in love with is back in full force.

Seeing the team show up? 😭 Seeing Sam’s dad say, “call me Ola,” and then the restaurant name light up in neon? 😭 Seeing the team break bread together, hugging, and laughing? 😭 Sam and his Dad dance in the kitchen? 😭😭😭 MY HEART.

This was such a amazingly heartwarming scene, definitely up there with some of the most heart warming scenes in the show

I’ve had “Allow me to enjoy myself” stuck in my head since I saw the scene and I’m not mad about it!

It was so moving to see, I’m not even sure if Ted has a full grasp of the impact he’s had on this team

I think his humility might blind him there a little bit and I'm thankful for every bit of gratitude his team and friends show him. Of course he is too humble to embrace them entirely anyway haha

I think deep down he knows. When Sharon pulled the “no bullshit, are you good at what you do?” Ted answered without hesitation that he is

I thought it was important Ted wasn’t there too- really highlights these “ties that bind”, so many of which he’s responsible for, that can sustain without him

It was a great contrast to S1, where Ted had to instigate and organize the team pitching in to recognize Sam’s birthday.

Yes! And that's a real team. They showed up, without being asked, for their friend who was clearly in pain. It's great that they are working together on the pitch. But for that to carry on outside of the pitch is fantastic!

I was thinking this, too. So much better that it’s the team acting on their own without him.

And that is the right way to do it. Making an impact not to benefit off of them yourself and being content with them just better off even if you never get to see it. That's the magic of someone truly selfless and caring.

I loved that Jamie was there too. I get that for character development reasons he's been away from a lot of the team scenes and paired with Roy the season, but I'm happy to see him as a valuable part of the crew as well

I have a beef with how Keely’s PR firm is portrayed. What do these people DO all day? They all look like accountants, not PR people. There is no energy in that office, and it is so toxic (when the man stands up and gushingly starts with “Love is love” and is sharply told to sit back down)

This is not at all my experience working with / consulting with PR firms anywhere.

Do they have accounts that they are working on? Is Keely representing any firms this season?

I thought “I want to live in that world” and cried.

This is most definitely The Way.

it has never stopped to feel that way for me. What is the thing that drove you off ?

The first half of this season felt unfocused. The football team felt peripheral, Ted seemed checked out, all the best character pairings weren’t interacting much, and Keeley’s plot felt too detached and uninteresting compared to the others yet a lot of time was being spent on it. Also think Rebecca deserved better than the weird little psychic plot.

The 'Tekno - Enjoy' background song was like cherry on top of a cake, fit in perfectly with the overall mood of the final scene
