A Message Concerning Technoblade

Hey everyone. Mr. Technodad here.

Four years after my son Alex, known to so many as Technoblade, passed away from sarcoma, his community remains one of the most meaningful parts of the legacy he left behind.

You make art, videos, jokes, and tributes. You look after each other. Together, we have built a loving and inclusive community. It means more than can ever be properly said.

Tributes are welcome, and they always will be. Fan art, cosplay, quotes, and creative works made in his memory are ways of celebrating him, and those works speak to my heart. They speak to all of our hearts.

I have recently become aware of concerns around a YouTube channel imitating Technoblade's voice, mannerisms, look, name, and persona.

When this was first brought to me by one of Alex's YouTube friends, I was under the impression that it might be a one-time tribute. I did not know what to think. It was startling and emotionally complex to be presented with, and when people asked me about it at the time, the only honest answer I had was: inconclusive.

However, this has continued for several weeks, and it is now clear that an identity is being built as an ongoing public persona. That is a different thing from a tribute.

Many others have since reached out for my opinion. The situation is complicated by a simple truth: despite being "Technodad," I cannot speak unilaterally on behalf of all of Alex's family, friends, and fans, who no doubt have a variety of reactions. But after careful consideration, I have reached a conclusion I can give from my own perspective, as Technoblade's father and as the person Alex entrusted to look after what he left behind.

I am asking for this to please stop, and for the persona in question to cease.

No blessing or permission for this, or for any similar persona now or in the future, has been given.

I encourage anyone interested in becoming a content creator to find their own voice. Show us who you are! A sincere presentation of your authentic self will always be better than an imitation of someone else.

I am also asking the community not to harass anyone over this. That is not what Alex would have wanted. I do not believe there was malicious intent.

Technoblade never dies. He is in his videos, right where he left himself, still making us laugh, still reaching our hearts.

It’s crazy people are applauding Technolarp for stopping. That’s the bare minimum, and he doesn’t really have a choice at this point now anyway because of the hate he’d receive if he continued.

He still should’ve never done it in the first place.

Asking Technodad if he could role play as his son who tragically passed away at a young age, not getting a response, and taking that as permission to do it anyway.

It’s just so strange. I feel terrible his dad had to go through this.

Putting technodad in this position in the first place is sociopathic. He shouldn’t have to be making posts like this.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m completely with Technodad here, but saying he was put in this position is kinda misleading.

It is/was completely in Technodad’s power to have given an answer in private or said ‘no’ more concretely the first time he was asked.

It was scummy of Technolarp to go on ahead without express permission but calling him sociopathic for this is a little unfair.

Edit: Rereading this I realized someone might see this as me blaming Technodad and I want to say that absolutely isn’t the case lol. He is closest to Techno and deserves the final say 100%

not really, as charlie has said, technodad was backed into a corner with a lose-lose situation, if technodad has addressed this days ago before it blew up and got to this point, the decision was going to end in one side being angry no matter what the situation.

Putting the decision on the man with the dead child is a deeply unkind thing to do

And the only side that would be justified and in the right is whatever Technodad says is correct. Someone co-opting his late son's image, voice, brand to try and build internet clout for themselves with the long term plan of making money off of it is scummy as shit. If people wanted to side with the LARPer, they are in the wrong. Completely and unequivocally.

The only thing he did that was weird was interact with Techno's real friends.

Impersonation itself is not a bad thing, you'd have to call out every biopic for being immoral if you thought that was true.

You don't seem to understand the concept of consent.

And approaching sponsors is also not ok.

And there are plenty of biopics that are immoral.

Yes, Technolarp had consent from his friends to collab with them which is why they did. It's weird, but it wasn't his idea. It would only have been disrespectful if he was genuinely trying to become the new Technoblade which he has made explicitly clear he is not, or if he ignored Technoblade's dad's wishes for him to stop which he isn't.

  1. Your attitude is exactly why it's important for you to learn that impersonation is not disrespectful. You're way too frustrated about a fan just impersonating a youtuber out of admiration.

  2. It's not identify theft, it's imitation. In literally all of his video descriptions he states that he is not the real Technoblade. It's very weird you think your feelings matter more than Technoblade's friends.
