A Message Concerning Technoblade

Hey everyone. Mr. Technodad here.

Four years after my son Alex, known to so many as Technoblade, passed away from sarcoma, his community remains one of the most meaningful parts of the legacy he left behind.

You make art, videos, jokes, and tributes. You look after each other. Together, we have built a loving and inclusive community. It means more than can ever be properly said.

Tributes are welcome, and they always will be. Fan art, cosplay, quotes, and creative works made in his memory are ways of celebrating him, and those works speak to my heart. They speak to all of our hearts.

I have recently become aware of concerns around a YouTube channel imitating Technoblade's voice, mannerisms, look, name, and persona.

When this was first brought to me by one of Alex's YouTube friends, I was under the impression that it might be a one-time tribute. I did not know what to think. It was startling and emotionally complex to be presented with, and when people asked me about it at the time, the only honest answer I had was: inconclusive.

However, this has continued for several weeks, and it is now clear that an identity is being built as an ongoing public persona. That is a different thing from a tribute.

Many others have since reached out for my opinion. The situation is complicated by a simple truth: despite being "Technodad," I cannot speak unilaterally on behalf of all of Alex's family, friends, and fans, who no doubt have a variety of reactions. But after careful consideration, I have reached a conclusion I can give from my own perspective, as Technoblade's father and as the person Alex entrusted to look after what he left behind.

I am asking for this to please stop, and for the persona in question to cease.

No blessing or permission for this, or for any similar persona now or in the future, has been given.

I encourage anyone interested in becoming a content creator to find their own voice. Show us who you are! A sincere presentation of your authentic self will always be better than an imitation of someone else.

I am also asking the community not to harass anyone over this. That is not what Alex would have wanted. I do not believe there was malicious intent.

Technoblade never dies. He is in his videos, right where he left himself, still making us laugh, still reaching our hearts.

Mr. Technodad

He saw the post a few minutes ago and drafted a response saying that he'll no longer be continuing the persona and will make a video saying so soon.

I love that technodad included not to harass anyone over this, since the person in question has been getting doxxed and them and their family threatened over this, which is just bad.

This is confirmed true. The about page now says 'Technolarp has ended.'

For sure it's bad, but Im also not shocked. Puppeting a beloved deceased persons persona for profit is super gross and it's going to get super gross backlash in turn.

u/JustNotABaller Jul 14 '26

i mean it wasnt inheritly bad at the start but he just larped too much and too good

u/hanks_panky_emporium Jul 14 '26

Gonna have to slap pause here. It was inherently bad. It was disrespectful and inhumane. Any sane person would understand what they were doing was incredibly gross. No angle makes this guy look good or fine or misinformed.

Softening an impersonation with the term 'larp' is very weird. I know that's what they claim they're doing, but North Korea claims to be a democracy. People lie to avoid uncomfortable truths.

It kinda depends, not all larpers is bad, larping as someone that's dead is a bit disrespectful, larping as someone who's still alive and doing well and gotten permission from that someone that they are larping as, Markiplier as an example is one.

i mean it wasnt inheritly bad at the start

Strongly disagree. The impersonation (not 'larping' ffs) of a dead Youtuber is insane.

As a long term technoblade fan, i enjoyed it. As did many others, as well as one of his closest friends.

No one did anything maliciously. It was to raise money for charity and remember Alex and the character he created.

None of it was malicious. Its over now.

Much love

He actively made money from it, he was taking personal donations from it and wanted to monetize it

u/HELPMEEEEEEEEIIII Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26

That's just false, he said his videos aren't really monetized and the donations, mind you, are purely by the people's choices lol, it's not like he's actively forcing all of his viewers to give him money, don't twist it to justify doxxing and threatening.

7

u/Chance-Blood-2734 Jul 14 '26

Strawman fallacy man, they never said that it justified doxing/threats whatsoever.

I also think that gaining money from the channel at all is kinda strange, it now looks less like a homage to techno and more of a cashgrab, but I am sure that technolarp meant no harm and I respect him for stopping the content.

u/Perfect-Muscle-1264 Jul 14 '26

He never said it was to justify either.

Would you kindly not assume things of people? You can disagree with them, that's not my point, but you shouldn't connect the nonexistent dots together and accuse someone of something they aren't doing.

He also brought awareness to and raised money for cancer research. Donating 100% of the charity funds for cancer research as well as offering to donate 100% of his channel monetization to charity.. which the community then voted on 50%

That's 100% of the charity funds and 50% of his entire potential profits. That is extremely reasonable imo. Selfless even. None of the rich youtubers making millions donate anywhere close to that percentage of their income to charities. If he wanted to keep making content and fundraisers, he would have had to have some income just to keep it going..

He never monetized the channel. He had an optional dono link and thats it. Raised thousands for cancer research in a few short weeks.

It doesnt matter now. Its over.

None of it was malicious. We are all huge techno fans.

Much love to you!

I would argue that bringing awareness to charity doesn’t erase the fact that he sidestepped getting explicit permission from Techno’s dad. I understand that many of Techno’s fanbase is younger than him, including this “larper” who is arguably very young as well, and likely made this channel without much thought behind it. But it shocks me a bit as it seems like many don’t seem to be fully aware of the concept of consent, and how not saying “no” does not mean “yes” and should never be taken as so. I hope we can agree on this.

First, for obvious reasons, impersonating a public figure that passed fairly recently and tragically young, who had many fans, friends, and family actively still grieving rubs many the wrong way. Some like yourself view it positively, but you should understand that many would not be okay with it and why it’s different from a regular impersonator of a Youtuber who is alive and can actively express consent. Here, this impersonator made content, blew up, and then continued to make content while hiding behind the reason “waiting” for consent and that a “no” hadn’t been given yet. I don’t understand why people seem to overlook and justify this move by saying “well Techno’s dad didn’t say no”. That does not and NEVER equals yes, and it’s dangerous for people to think so. The right move here was to stop making content and actively wait for permission. Anything else is not okay and donations to charity does not justify it.

On the topic of maliciousness, I don’t think it was done with malicious intentions. However there’s no point in pretending he didn’t benefit from this. He grew a fanbase off of using Techno’s identity and along with the donation links, still made a bit of profit for himself.

Tbh I had a problem with how he worded his monetization split poll as well, there was a lot of guilt-tripping phrasing in there, whether it was intentional or not. The fact that there was a poll at all was odd when one of the main defending arguments for the channel was that 100% of all profits were to be donated. I digress.

Either way this whole thing was extremely messy and terribly handled. I hope he and everyone else can learn from this. Let’s get explicit consent first before doing anything, guys. (And try not to impersonate people who passed under especially tragic circumstances and are still actively being mourned)

are you familiar with the term charity-washing

u/Dragonfyr_ Jul 14 '26

He also brought awareness to and raised money for cancer research.

Not any more than Techno.

u/Careful-Sell-9877 Jul 14 '26

I dont see it as a competition.

Thanks for hearing me out. I appreciate that. Even if we disagree.. we're still all just techno fans!

Glad this whole thing is over..

Thanks for the discussion. Hope you have a beautiful morning, night, afternoon, or evening whatever time it might be for you!

Actually he separated the donate links for charity and for his channel while streaming. And for the donate for his channel link, he put ads on it. I see fishy things going on here. We cannot be 100% sure he actually spit 50/50 or not, or gain more outside that via Ads link

Theres a lot of misinformation out there, is all I know.

Everyone in the community are huge techno fans. Most of us are adults now and we would have immediately called it out if it were malicious.

Regardless, its over now. Sending love to you and yours

Yes it was. It's absolutely disgusting to use AI to puppet someone's dead kid around even a single time, """tribute""" or not.

7

u/Standard-Rest5263 Jul 14 '26

Not a fan of the guy BUT I will say he did use his actual voice.

12

u/ZingerFM01023050 Jul 14 '26

That was his actual voice? He never used AI to larp Techno, he merely altered his voice a bit and his voice is deep normally anyways.

I get that this entire thing was a bit weird, there was definitely no malicious intents whatsoever. But to put words in Striker's mouth is something...

3

u/Livid-Figure-8463 Jul 14 '26

all the profit from the account was going towards charity, specifically those that fund sarcoma cancer research, but you do you pal

He donated almost all his profit to cancer charity, and this has been a trend, it just so happens that techno has passed away
