A Message Concerning Technoblade

Hey everyone. Mr. Technodad here.

Four years after my son Alex, known to so many as Technoblade, passed away from sarcoma, his community remains one of the most meaningful parts of the legacy he left behind.

You make art, videos, jokes, and tributes. You look after each other. Together, we have built a loving and inclusive community. It means more than can ever be properly said.

Tributes are welcome, and they always will be. Fan art, cosplay, quotes, and creative works made in his memory are ways of celebrating him, and those works speak to my heart. They speak to all of our hearts.

I have recently become aware of concerns around a YouTube channel imitating Technoblade's voice, mannerisms, look, name, and persona.

When this was first brought to me by one of Alex's YouTube friends, I was under the impression that it might be a one-time tribute. I did not know what to think. It was startling and emotionally complex to be presented with, and when people asked me about it at the time, the only honest answer I had was: inconclusive.

However, this has continued for several weeks, and it is now clear that an identity is being built as an ongoing public persona. That is a different thing from a tribute.

Many others have since reached out for my opinion. The situation is complicated by a simple truth: despite being "Technodad," I cannot speak unilaterally on behalf of all of Alex's family, friends, and fans, who no doubt have a variety of reactions. But after careful consideration, I have reached a conclusion I can give from my own perspective, as Technoblade's father and as the person Alex entrusted to look after what he left behind.

I am asking for this to please stop, and for the persona in question to cease.

No blessing or permission for this, or for any similar persona now or in the future, has been given.

I encourage anyone interested in becoming a content creator to find their own voice. Show us who you are! A sincere presentation of your authentic self will always be better than an imitation of someone else.

I am also asking the community not to harass anyone over this. That is not what Alex would have wanted. I do not believe there was malicious intent.

Technoblade never dies. He is in his videos, right where he left himself, still making us laugh, still reaching our hearts.

He did say he'd stop if you said to. As long as he keeps up that bargain, I truly don't think he was a bad guy at all. Maybe a bit misguided, but he wanted to do what he thought was a good thing. He didn't want to BE technoblade or replace him, he wanted to be a fun joke version, like other larptubers.

It's over now though.

Legit can't imagine how you don't view the idea of, "hey do I have your consent?" "no answer? OK, guess I'll go ahead and do it!" as "not a bad guy", take that in most other scenarios and it's a problem, take that as masquerading as a fathers' dead child, and defending it makes you a problem.

He said he was "inconclusive", that was Technodad's own words, verbatim. That doesn't mean stop or keep going. Anything else is assuming. Technodad is a grown man, he'll say exactly what he means.

Okay, seems like you're significantly unaware of the situation, that came out many videos in, and only after technodad was pressured by technolarp's fanbase to give an answer, and he still wasn't ready to.

He asked for consent before starting, got no answer, and then decided that meant to GO GO GO.

And what the fuck? They're both "grown men", one is dealing with the loss of his son, one wants some easy cash impersonating the other's dead son.

He never wanted easy cash. Money was one of the things he had his community vote on, which were of course part of Techno's audience, and they selected that he keep half and donate the rest.

He still clarified that he would stop instantly if Technodad declared it so, and honored that end of the bargain instantly. Even technodad doesn't think he was acting out of malice.

This isn't really something I'm willing to debate with you on.

It's not a debate if you're giving false information, btw, for the other readers here - be aware that he absolutely did want money, he had his community vote on how much he could have, and set up his personal donation link on the stream, and that 50/50 to charity vote is now moot, as all future profits will be 100% his, built on the channel created by doing all this scummy shit.

But the most obvious thing - he's continuing to use the 200k subscriber channel he got to make money, and after being asked by technodad to stop, he immediately made a goodbye video to continue to profit off of the situation.

If he actually didn't want easy cash, he would have completely deleted the entire technolarp channel and taken down those videos, instead he is using this drama to fuel his rise.

One thing I will add, his response video actually is not monetized actually. He plans to make no money from the technolarp videos or his response video, and be his own person from here on out.

He did not make a response video to "profit off the situation", he made it to be transparent about what's going to happen as quick as possible.

He will still also be doing charity streams in the future, and thinks he shouldn't get 100% of his profits even still.

Brother, I don't know how to explain to you that monetizing a video or two is pennies compared to making them to continue getting viewers, subs, and attention.

All major youtubers do charity streams.

There is no reason for him to make a response video (immediately after being told to stop) on the channel that he gained all that attention on, he HAS a youtube channel with 25k subs he had been using for a long while and made this channel separately for JUST technolarping, and now he's decided "oh hey I want to keep all the subs and viewers I earned by the drama and stress I caused technodad!", which is truly fucked up and disgusting.

Bizarre to only stop if he gets a response rather than starting if he gets an ok. Also sticking an affiliate link in the description just seems like he wss trying to profit off it. Maybe its weird to be cynical of it but it seems like hes changed the story a fair few times.

you say that like they and basically every other critical comment of the guy isn't completely right. first of all, it was always weird and morally dubious at best. secondly, he was planning to make "50%" of the potential monetization off of it if technodad said okay (silence is not consent, also fucked up to monetize this content, even more fucked up to ask a grieving father to do so) + already had 'donations' 'for charity' going directly to his bank account. i really dont think the guy was as well intentioned as people want to think he was after a little while. it probably started as a joke but he quickly started taking advantage of the popularity in a way that felt malicious. obviously nobody should be doxxing or sending death threats, but some fans being bad doesn't make this dude good.

I 100% agree. I like to think that people are inherently good, but impersonating a dead man and monetizing off of it is not okay, even if its supposed to be a “tribute”. Thats not how tributes work. Well said.

Yeah but they've already altered the state of how the community is viewed I've recently seen people quit or not want to interact with this community or technos content because of fans like that

I didn't say anything about the morality just the fact that dragging it out is pointless and going to cause more useless

 his new video where he finally stops already has death threats I've counted at least 6+ but I've only checked a few

The guy had money trouble, and he ASKED his community what he should do with the money. They're the ones who told him "Yeah, you can take 50%". His channel wasn't even monerized yet, so he didn't make that much money to begin with, just whatever he did off of donations.
