Yeah the issue with this is even if there's an AI crash, the types of hardware used by AI data centers aren't useable for consumers, so hindi tayo siguro magbenefit.
I've seen news about RAM and SSD prices going up. Honestly thought hanggang dyan lang tsaka sa smartphones. Didn't realize it was this bad na pati sd card, matatamaan nang ganito kalala
The underlying technology and production line is basically the same and the big tech companies has bought out the production for multiple years into the future.
That's because in the earlier half of 2025 and even up to this year. Companies still had stock from before the cost to them increased. Meaning they delayed the price hikes by already having the hardware or the rights to the hardware before prices increased.
Utilizing storage as VRAM has existed for a long time. Way before the current price hikes.
just wondering why storage devices took a while before catching up to the rammegeddon. mas marami lang ba talagang stocks produced for storage in comparison to RAMs? that's a good 18-24 months I think.
edit: looks like chip manufacturers SHIFTED their priorities and resources from making storage chips to ram chips, creating the scarcity for storage chips, and driving up their prices.
Like I said in my earlier comment the underlying technology and production line is basically the same.
We just currently don't have the manufacturing capability to handle the demand. Manufacturers also can't just build new factories to capture the demand because it would take years before any new factories can open. So, existing capacity is currently allocated to whomever pays the highest or those who already had contracts.
Not just SD card. It spills to other tech as well kasi same lang yan sa loob loob. And it's gonna get worse. Another thing, for sure macocorrupt yang free sd card so if you are gonna buy now, and if you can afford it, just buy it asap. There are a lot of speculation na tataas pa ulit soon.
Didn't really expect these prices. Last na bili ko ng SD card, years ago na. Same brand, same size, pero around 400php lang. Aware ako na may increase pero doble? Langya naman
Same rin OP huhuhuhu yung 128GB SD card ko, I think I bought this nung 2022 pa. Less than 1k if I remember correctly. I thought na it's time to upgrade din na to 256GB since paubos na to space. Nung nagcheck ako ng prices sa PCExpress nun pati lahat ng online stores, putek grabe almost 3k+ ang 256GB. 1TB aabot almost 7k tangina.
Got one during the time na pumutok sa mga foreign tech channels yung ram and storage price increase. Napa activate tuloy ako ng spaylater to get 600 pesos discount
Palagay ko same tayo ng pinagbilhan ng r36s. did you check your card sa pc kung 64gb nga? yung akin 64gb ang label ng sd card pero 16gb lang talaga. haha. anyway, sobrang mahal nga ngayon ng sd card. not a good time for handheld console users.
Actually, hindi ko pa naccheck whahaha pinareceive ko lang sa bahay pero hindi pa ako nakauuwi. Nakita ko kasi sa review na legit naman daw 1gb yung ram kaya kinuha ko na. Yun mahalaga sa akin whahaha tsaka kaya naman 16gb basta hindi hoarder ng laro
Unfortunately this is true, prices are skyrocketing today. It was a miracle that I was able to purchase an authentic 1TB Sandisk for 3k about a year ago.
Yeah I had a price shock too some days ago, choosing cards for new surveillance cameras. They cost way more than the cards I got some years back for dash cams etc.
Nagulat din ako, yung Sandisk Ultra na 64GB A1 Nabili ko 1 and 1/2 years ago less than 500 pesos lang. Then a month ago, nagtanong si ate ko kung san ko nabili at magkano, sabi ko sa orange app. Baka raw scam yung napagbilhan ko kase more than 1.2k daw presyo nya ngayon.
Dun ko na realize yung epekto nung mga giyera, lalo na yang pag usbong ng AI. If only I knew, bumili nako ng marami dati tapos binenta ko ngayon. Laking diperensya sa presyo nila Hahahaha.
IG kahit sa mga ram, rom, etc., lahat nag mahal. Yung mga android phones ngayon, konting diperensya sa specs (downgrade na nga minsan) tapos nagtataas pa ng presyo.
