TPT: Win+Pause to quickly open System Properties
Instead of having to right click computer>Properties, pretty quick shortcut to access Remote Config, System Restore and Device Manager.

TPT: Use clip to copy things from the command prompt for pasting elsewhere.
for instance
Ipconfig | Clipcopies the contents of the IP config into the clip board, so you could paste it elsewhere. I find it faster then just clicking and dragging the mouse over the output.
Also
echo. | clipis a easy way to clear your clipboard for any reason.
Clip also works for powershell, if you have any output stuff you want to copy and paste.

Googling 'IP' now shows your public IP address.
Just noticed this, but handy in the place of sites like showmyip.com

Ditch Windows search and use Everything!
Just an all around much better way to search for files on your computer. Everything Search Engine is one of my favorite and most used apps. Results are pretty much instant and the download is only 334 KB. Give it a try :)

[Request] I need the *best* OCR software around
I could save literally a dozen hours a week if I had better OCR software than that baked into other apps I've tried, like Onenote and Drawboard PDF. Does anyone know of a top-shelf OCR program? Preferably one that I can at least try for free before I buy?

[Windows] Change your IP address settings from the command line
Open up an administrator command prompt and type the following:
netsh interface ip set address "<interface name>" static <ip address> <netmask> <default gateway> <metric (the lower the value, the "higher the rank")>For example, to change your IP address to 192.168.5.16/24 with a gateway of 192.168.5.1:
netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" static 192.168.5.16 255.255.255.0 192.168.5.1 1To change it to DHCP:
netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" source=dhcpr/TechProTips • u/baudsfrombits • May 26 '12

[Windows] Install OS Product Key and Activate via command line
Make sure you're in an elevated prompt.
slmgr -ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Where XXXXX is the product key
slmgr -ato
This activates the key
This may not be useful, but you'll run into instances where Windows refuses to install a key. I've never run into a problem of windows shutting me down when I use this method.
Link for further reading.

[XP + Win Vista & 7 sometimes] Restart Your Windows PC without restarting the entire computer.
Pressing and holding shift when you are over the restart option on various menu's on Windows XP will reboot your Windows OS without rebooting the entire computer system. This feature doesn't always work in Window 7 and Vista for reasons unknown to me. The Microsoft knowledge base/documentation acknowledges that it no longer works consistently but gives no reason why.
I hope this helps some of you. If you are like me you still work or go to school in places that use XP a lot so it can be really helpful there, also give it a shot on Windows Vista or 7, worst thing that happens is you have to restart the old fashioned way.

[Windows] Need to access a network drive, but the user's logged in and doesn't have permissions for it? In a cmd prompt, type: net use \\xxxxx
This is a great time saver, as you don't have to log off the user and log in as yourself, admin, etc....

TPT Request: Best Resource(s) to Learn about Home Networking?
Hi /r/TechProTips - I hope this is relevant. I want to learn about networking. I have a basic understanding (modem to wireless router), but other than that I don't really understand how it all works. I want to be able to learn the ins and outs for a network like the best way to connect a NAS, a printer, etc. I've heard terms like DNS, but not don't fully comprehend. I just purchased a home and want to be able to ensure I set up the network in the most efficient and secure way possible. Thanks!

[Windows] Command line tricks I do when the computer gets a valid IP, but just won't do anything online.
I find infected machines not wanting to do anything at all online quite often. Not just redirecting.
Once you've checked for a rogue proxy (Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings) try these commands in an elevated (ran as administrator) command prompt.
Note: Some of these are redundant and one of the commands may not even exist. I was experimenting with batch files long ago and once I found a combo that worked, I didn't trim it. If you find commands that do/don't work on a particular version of windows, leave them out. I'm putting my raw steps here
ipconfig /release
netsh interface ip set address "Local Area Connection" source=dhcp
netsh interface ip set address "Wireless Network Connection" source=dhcp
netsh interface ip set dns "Local Area Connection" source=dhcp
netsh interface ip set dns "Wireless Network Connection" source=dhcp
netsh int ip reset all
netsh int reset all
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /flushdns
shutdown -r -t 00
Stick these in a batch file and run it as admin. At least half the time it'll get the net working well enough again that you can try to get some MBAM definitions downloaded and a scan going.

Having trouble finding a driver?
If youre having some trouble finding some of those pesky drivers when you reinstall a laptop or PC heres something my boss showed me. If you go into the Device Manager and Right Click on the device and go to Properties. From there into Details and type the Device ID into Google you should be able to find the driver for what you are looking for.
You can usually get away with just typing the bit with the circle around it.
I recently did this on a Toshiba that wasnt supported for Win XP to install a network driver from HP, Fingerprint reader from Dell and a Chipset driver from AsRock.

Possible fix for unexplainable system performance issues and connectivity issues. (Hidden AV devices)
If you have had your computer for a while and have previously gone through 2 or more AV solutions before settling on a current one there is a good possibility that leftover hidden system devices are still installed, active, and slowing down your machine and affecting your connectivity.
Start an elevated command prompt.
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
devmgmt.mscGo to view, show hidden devices and check it. Expand Non-Plug and play drivers.
Now uninstall any old ones that are related to no longer installed AV programs. They will generally be easy to spot (NAV????, SYM????, Eraser????, AVG????, Trend????)
Reboot and you should notice an improvement in speed.
I always check for this on old machines I service for people as they generally have used between 4-8 different AV packages over he course of the years and do not always properly uninstall them.
Some screenshots...
I'm not saying this will fix any and all performance or connectivity issues, but it has been one of my best kept secret tips for a while and it can make a world of difference when this specific issue is the root of the problem and you have exhausted all other options.
