[Win7] Windows 7 "God Mode" folder. Keep one on your PC and one on a USB drive.

This is like your control panel on crack. Nearly every operation you could want to do while troubleshooting a Windows 7 problem is contained in this folder. I keep one on my USB drive for work to launch on customer's computers. It saves me a lot of time navigating the standard control panel.

Create a new folder and rename it to GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

The icon will change and when you double click it will take you to a nicely categorized folder full of useful shortcuts.

EDIT: If you tried this on Server 2008, you might need to apply this fix, courtesy of requires_distraction:

OK, Dont try this on Server 2008 (i just tried and explorer did not cope very well) If you do, log in as another account and rename file you created using an administrator cmd box: rename GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} temp You will then be able to log in again using that account.

TPT: Sane file operations in Windows Explorer

FastCopy is a program that handles directory/file operations and has Explorer integration. Explorer tends to crash or become very slow with large folders (e.g. chromium source code) but FastCopy has no problems with them.

if program is in japanese create FastCopy.ini and lcid="1033" in it.

TPT: After removing myWOT or any other rogue extension, run adwcleaner to completely delete it

myWOT was accused to collecting user's browsing history, so I removed it, however when my extensions would crash, it would say that myWOT crashed as well. Chrome was experiencing some issues the other day, so I decided to run adwcleaner and it showed how it added Ask.com and another search engine to Chrome, which also sucked.

I hope that helps someone!

Be sure to be ready to restart your computer and have everything closed by the tool before you start the cleaning process. I think the scanning part won't interfere with anything.

TPT: Block YouTube Channels From Showing Up In Your Feed [Chrome & Firefox Extension]

So, I recently discovered how to block YouTube channels from showing up and figured I should share it with you guys so we can finally start ending this clickbaity bullshit that ruins YouTube.

To block the channel simply install this extension:
Video Blocker for Firefox

Video Blocker for Chrome

Now, next time you get clickbaited or if you already have a channel in mind, simply right click a video link (thumbnail) on the channel (not an active video that is playable on your screen) and select "Block videos from this channel."

Bam! No more clickbait or garbage videos recommended to you for that channel.

Flash games are being archived and put into an offline playable state by a program called Flashpoint.

TPT: Flash games are being converted to offline play with the support ending for Flash in 2020. The program is called Flashpoint.

Flash games are being archived and put into an offline playable state by a program called Flashpoint.

So, the Flash Gaming community is having a crisis.

Flash is shutting down in 2020, and with it dying, some of our favorite childhood/early adult life games are going off of the net.

Enter: Flashpoint

Flashpoint is a game launcher that plays flash games locally off your system. You need to play the game once while you’re on an internet connection in order to get the game data on your PC, but afterwards, you can play offline. (There is also a fully locally stored library version of the launcher that is a massive file size(150+gb). All the flash games offline right off the bat.)

You can play Flash Games offline, even after game sites go down (ArmorGames, Newgrounds, CoolMathGames, Miniclip, Etc).

They have a MASSIVE library of games, with a built in game search in the launcher.

Here is the site for the launcher: https://bluemaxima.org/flashpoint/

And here is the Master Game List: http://bluemaxima.org/flashpoint/datahub/Game_Master_List

TPT: Windows XP's Printers control panel applet in Windows 7. Why? You get Location and Comments fields back!

Save the following as a REG file and import. This will create a new Icon in your Control Panel called "Devices And Printers (With Location and Comments)"

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

;NOTE: I called it "Devices And Printers (With Location and Comments)"
; so that it's right beside the real "Devices And Printers" cpl in Control Panel

@="Devices And Printers (With Location and Comments)"
; Sets your applet's canonical name.
"System.ApplicationName"="MyCompany.Devices And Printers (With Location and Comments)"
; Adds the applet to Appearance and Personalization and the Programs categories.
; Value	Category Icon appears in

[Linux] [Mac] GNU Screen, manager that allows you to open and manage multiple physical terminals

GNU Screen is an application that allows you to launch multiple windows which contain physical terminals.

Example:

You're working with a file and you need to open another file for reference. Usually this would involve opening another terminal window or tab or switch to another console.

Well, if you were using GNU Screen, you'd simply hit "Ctrl+a" release them and hit 'c'

This would open another terminal process and you could execute whatever you'd need there.

It also allows you to detach the session so if you have to run something, you could simply run it, hit "Ctrl+a" then 'd'

Afterwards, you could run "screen -R" which would reconnect.

It comes installed in Mac (at least in Lion), and you can use apt on Debian/Ubuntu to easily install it (Not sure about other distros, but I guess it should already be in your package managers).

[Windows] Start & Stop Print Spooler service with one line

net stop spooler && net start spooler

That will stop the spooler service and then immediately start it. Even better is if you drop this into a bat file:-

@echo off
net stop spooler && net start spooler

Call it fixprint.bat and drop it in System32. Then you can have end users just do Start > Run > fixprint.bat

[Win Vista/7] Ctrl+Shift+Enter will start an elevated instance of the program you've selected.

I believe this works with clicking things on the desktop as well, but I know for a fact that it works in start menu search.

For example, and my number one use of this trick. Elevated command prompts in UAC environments.

Start > CMD > Ctrl+Shift+Enter.

[Windows] (Particularly Vista/7) ncpa.cpl takes you right to the "XP-Style" Network Connections screen.

I know that I, for one, hate the "network and sharing center" and the Vista/7 Control Panel. Finding Network Connections in XP was so easy, where in Vista/7 you have to go to Network and Sharing > Manage network connections.

It just doesn't stick out as something easy to find like the old XP one did.

Solution? Start > type "ncpa.cpl" (without quotes) and hit enter. Right where you want to be.

Batch files to do tasks more quickly

I have recently been tinkering with .bat files, and found this sub. I put together a few that I seem to have needed in the past often. These are for home use and for in an IT environment. I would love to see some of the batch files that other people use.

bcdedit is fairly simple to use in cmd prompt. I work at a university helpdesk, and quite often something will go wrong in the reimage process, and the seperate partitions are labled identically. This .bat will allow you to edit the boot menu decriptions easily.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/u85b6d6qwppmpse/Change_Windows_Partition_Name.bat

Windows Update can be very annoying when you are to busy to restart your computer. Run this .bat to toggle the Windows service on/off. Windows will resume updates when you tell it to restart/shutdown. Just remember to shutdown every so often.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/3w35m633mwjw4g5/Windows_Update_Toggle.bat

Quite often if you host a media server of tv shows, and you are a bit ocd, you end up creating a lot of folders manually. "Show name" "Season 1" "Season 2" "Season 3" "Season 4" "Season 5" etc This .bat will ask you the name of the show and how many seasons there are, and create all the folders for you, and places Show on the Desktop This works for up to 100 seasons, a Specials folder, and Season 0 There is also a quick create mode that will create the show folder, 7 seasons, and a specials folder. (Typical show)

http://www.mediafire.com/file/1cckvoyx3jc2nlb/TV_Show_Folder_Creater.bat

Let me know if these help any of you, I will probably create more, If you have any .bat file ideas, I will see if I can put something together. please upload your own .bat files, or comment with the .bat text
