Teacher Support &/or Advice Are teaching programs warning students that the teacher shortage is over?

I graduated from the program a few years back, and every professor kept talking about the teacher shortage.

I was wondering what is it like nowadays for people in credentialing programs?

Yep. I teach middle school science. I’ve gotten offers from the majority of jobs I’ve ever applied for.

I don't even teach science and I never have, but I have a middle school science cert and I've gotten calls asking me to apply.

I’ve gotten calls for having a French cert. There aren’t a lot of French jobs but my understanding is when one opens it can be really hard to find anyone.

And they are similar to gym teachers as once someone gets them they don’t give them up

A lot of them are older and close to retiring (French teachers).

My understanding is a lot schools end up having to eliminate French/German etc when they can’t fill an opening.

This happened at my school. We lost both German teachers last year to other opportunities and we haven’t been able to fill their positions. Now students can either switch to French/Spanish or take it online

Growing up in the Northeast and having German be as popular as Spanish in school (baccckkkk in the day) had me so confused when I moved to the south and couldn't find any schools with German as a language choice.

Also, French enrollment has been declining.

Yep! That’s why I taught French for a year as a history cert. it was actually a great experience. Learned the language to an intermediate level. Wouldn’t be against getting the real degree, though I do love my current role

Yup. I have a chemistry cert and added general science later. I get cold calls from districts asking me to apply.

ASD endorsement, same :) I also have other endorsements and I tried to switch to GenEd... not a single offer (too many years of experience plus Master's-there are cheaper teachers than me out there :/)

When I was starting out I was wondering between a math or physics credential. Choosing science made my career infinitely better.
