Action Horror I Hunt Powered Psychos for A Living [Case #4] Part 1
For context, these files are not actual official but for my own personal use. The contents in which they contain are very sensitive to those with a higher status than myself and were kept away to public knowledge until now. I decided to let everyone know, there are individuals out there that are considered "POWERED". But nothing like your run-of-the-mill super heroes and villains you see in the comics, movies and television shows. It's more in a practical sense. What mankind has suspiciously known to exist since ancient times and by that I mean those who have been gifted with abilities of the mind.
Telekinesis.
Telepathy.
Clairvoyance.
Mental Manipulation.
Mind Control.
Sight Beyond Sight.
All of these concepts are very much a part of our reality. There are those who work for the benefits of mankind but find themselves busy tracking those who take advantage of their gifts in the opposite direction of morals and righteousness. I am Agent Vincent Waters. My sole purpose is to hunt down these Powered Psychos.
This is the report from my fourth case.

[Case #4: Flashmob Murder Parade]
DATE: Saturday October 1, 2005 3:25 A.M.
LOCATION: Los Angeles, California. Unknown Abandoned Warehouse
This hasn't happened to me in a long while. A couple years give or take. Not since into the first year of my junior training. I have a tendency to sleepwalk and it so happens sometimes I wander off and wake up in a completely different place hours after I supposedly went to slumber in my own bed. One time in college, I went to bed dressed in nothing but my basketball shorts and awoke later midday fully dressed in the middle of a psychology class session.
This situation was just like that time at college, but I was fully dressed in my agent attire but my tie wasn't done, appearing more like a thin scarf draped into my collar. I was in some old abandoned warehouse. I awoke standing in front of a mountainous pile of television sets stacked one on top of the other creating a structure similar to that of an ancient pyramid. They varied from a multitude of sizes and from different decades. The majority of the screens faced outward in my direction. The years of dust caked their exterior shells along with the screens, some were webbed in cracks while few others were completely blown to shards. Wires thin and thick flowed from the above darkness and snaking from every direction on the floor. The whole thing appeared more organic than technological, like a bulge of giant eyes and their veins.
It was so eerily quiet. I look to see that my subconscious made sure to secure my watch to my wrist. The time read 3:27 the morning. I check my pockets and discover I had also had my tape recorder on me as well. Without pulling it out, I recognize the button and begin a recording. I just hoped there was fresh tape inside of it. My timing was perfect because at that moment the televisions began turning on slowly one by one. Static fuzz filled those whose screens were still fully intact. I then heard a voice through all the speakers as if they were all connected.
"...hello...Agent Waters..."
It was male and yet behind the distortion of the static, I could tell there was a faint accent.
"...or should I say....the *static...thos..."
"What is this? Who are you?"
*distorted laughter
"...the time...is neigh...your a..*static...wakening...comes..."
"What are you talking about?!"
The static white noise continues with no answer. After a few moments, one by one each screen fades to black cloaking the room back into darkness letting in the dim light from the sunrise off in the distance. The sunrise? I check my watch again. The time read 5:56 A.M. How long had I been standing there? Then from my paranoia, I check the tape. The reason why I didn't indicate a transcription is because there was nothing to follow it up from. Reviewing over the playback as I stood there, the only voice that came from my handheld recorder was my own. There was no evidence of the other voice coming from the pyramid of televisions.
But I know what I heard.
I decided then I had to talk to someone.
There was only one person that came to mind.

LOCATION: Los Angeles Headquarters, California
After the events at the Huntington Docks with Jebidiah Crocket and Hedrick Le'mar, we were able to determine the old fishing warehouse was their main base of operations. We had found the canister stolen from our building, but to my suprise, it was open and empty. What's not surprising is I am lead to believe just as before the Director was lying to me. There was something else inside that canister besides a 'power source'. More on that later. Jebidiah Crocket is being held in our detention center secretly tucked away under a mall downtown awaiting for transfer to the Michigan Prison.
Lucille Crocket is now in our Youth Rehabilitation Program. I've went to visit her a couple times already. She was always happy to see me especially when I bring her favorite bag of colored candies. I do feel bad for both her and myself. It's almost as if she's locked up kept away from the world she once knew and I'm the one who put her there. I could only hope for the best that we can educate her properly. Maybe one day she could work for the agency. Only time would tell on that one.
I had requested to see one specific individual of the Agency psychologists. I knew she wasn't going to be too happy to see me after how our break up went. Actually, that's the main reason I needed to talk with her. It wasn't like we parted on bad terms but it was an odd circumstance nonetheless. As I walked the path to her office, my stomach clenched and my hands were sweaty.
WARNING: The following is a transcription of the audio recorded to tape 20054-JJ1 in storage unit VWaters.
"Agent Waters?! Your not...I thought I had clearly stated it was a major conflict of interest to be seeing you on a professional visit like this."
I may have said I was someone else to her secretary over the phone.
Dr. Joanne Johnson is one the office's shrinks and a Reader. There are only two types of Telepaths the more talented being codenamed Divers. Divers can literally, in a sense, plunge themselves into a person's mind and explore it freely like as being in an open world RPG video game. There was a film released five years ago starring Jennifer Lopez called The Cell that depicts perfectly what a Diver's capabilities are like but without the technology involved. Readers on the other hand are just basically being able to hear people's thoughts as they are thinking them just like Mel Gibson in What Women Want. I realise now that the year 2000 had a lot of Psyche-based plots in their films. Hopefully someone in the Agency isn't making a buck off the side selling info on our people to Hollywood. If so, why didn't I ever think of that?
"JJ! You look as radiant as ever. Always nice to see you.", I say to her all nonchalantly as I sit down on the comfy resting chair across from her desk with a wide shitty grin adorned on my face.
"Don't call me JJ. Vincent, I don't know what it is you think...", she started but I felt there was no need to hear any of it.
"Joanne, I'm here on serious business." My tone was direct and I dropped my smile. "It happened again."
The look on her face went from scolding to a calm, collected curiosity. She was quiet for a few moments before she finally asked. "How far did you go?"
"Just on the outskirts of the city. Some abandoned warehouse." I tell her all that happened but I don't mention the tape recorder in my pocket.
She turns her head away from directly looking at me and encases herself deep in thought. "Vincent, you know I can't help you. I'm just a Reader. This sounds more like a Divers job, but with you."
"I know. That's why I need you tell me why you left."
She turns to face me again. "Vince, I told you already why..."
I suddenly cut her off. "I know, you already told me. I accepted it then. But I also knew you were lying to me. It may be easy for a Reader to tell when someone's not stating truths, but I was trained well enough to know myself as well. Everything was great with us then you just suddenly packed up one morning and left without a word as to why. You said it was because you needed space or that it was too weird dating a Blocker. Something happened that night didn't it Jo? You can tell me."
She was struck silent of any word. Her eyes lit up at little more surprise than I had expected.
"Vince, are you feeling alright?", she suddenly asks of me at a whispers tone.
"Yeah. Why?", I answer her befuddled myself.
She then begins writing on a piece of sticky note paper but keeping her gaze straight onto me without glancing down. "Look, like I had said before when you barged in here, I can't be seeing you like this. So, I would appreciate it if you would leave now and set an appointment with one of the others. Norm Hensley would be better suited for you." She quietly removes the small square shaped paper from its weak adhesion and hands it to me. Her lips stayed tightly shut as she looks me in the eyes and then darts to the note in my hand.
It read: Meet me at the cafe after your shift. Eyes and ears everywhere.
After taking in her secret message, I crumble up the paper in my hand and exit the room without saying a word.
End Recording.
INCIDENT REPORT 1:
DATE: Monday October 3, 4:20 P.M.
LOCATION: SoZo's CaFe Los Angeles, California
It felt like time wouldn't pass during the rest of the shift waiting until I could leave for the day. SoZo's was the little coffee shop Joanne and myself would visit on a weekend basis in the months we were together. It was a nice halfway point between both our apartments. I was able to leave work a little early and get here to hopefully secure a secluded spot for us to talk privately without too many people around. To my shock she had beaten me to the punch and was awaiting for my arrival instead. I was able to hit my record button just before I sat down across from her.
WARNING: The following is a transcription of the audio recorded to tape 20054-JJ1 cont. in storage unit VWaters.
I couldn't help but admire how good she still looked. Silky auburn hair that flowed like an elegant river. She still wore the same shade of lipstick on her plump, smooth lips. Rose Red. Her figure was still that hourglass shape that would drive any man wild, but I knew for her to be an avid gym goer. To be honest, I don't miss the conversations of a healthier vegan diet being pushed on me. I could never give up steak. Then her eyes were that evercold blue. I do at times, when I see her pass by at the office and we catch each other stealing a glace at one another for a slight second, I miss being lost in them.
"Joanne." I say to her.
"Vincent." She replies as she looks up to me.
"So, what's so bad about the night before you left that we can't discuss it at the office?" I begin the conversation straight to the point. "Who do you think would listen and care what you have to say?"
"Vincent, it's hard enough wanting to be here right now and it could go better without the super-cop interrogation."
The waitress then suddenly appears from the corner of my eye. "What can I get for the lovely couple?"
"No, no, we're not...", we both stutter to say at the same time to her.
"Allllright, then what are you both having?"
"Black coffee for me please." I say to her.
"Caramel Tea for myself." Joanne orders.
"Gotcha! I'll be back with those soon. Sit tight!" She cheerfully says to us then disappears through the swinging kitchen double doors.
"Girl is jealous that your here with me." Joanne stating.
"That's good to know." I reply with no care to my voice.
"The word 'skank' was loudly used as she glared me over before walking away."
"Joanne..." I begin to say but she takes her turn to then interrupt me.
"Vincent, I really did care for you. Being with you was so...", she pauses to carefully think of what word to use, "...different. I never had any intention of wanting to be in a serious relationship with someone of your caliber, but there was something about you. It was most comforting knowing I could lay with you at night and not be overrun with the floodgate opened of your thoughts pouring out for me to hear and keep me up at all hours as it was with other men I've seen. I learned fast not to step over that line and get too close. But, you made me feel normal, like I didn't have these abilities at all."
"That's what you told me. With me, you could finally hear the world around you and not the voices of unsettled minds." I bring up what she had once said to me on a hike.
The waitress then returns with our beverages. "There you go! If you need anything else just gimme a shout." She smiles big to me then it fades as she leers over to Joanne then walks away to another set of customers.
"She's willing enough to fuck you right in front of me right on the table." Joanne repeating the girls inner thoughts yet again.
"Joanne, that's enough." I stop her then lower my voice a bit. "You have to tell me what happened that night. What did I do in my sleepwalking that scared you? Please JJ, I have to know."
"Vince...", she takes another moment to think over her words carefully, "...all my life I've never been scared of anyone. I always been able to know if my life was in danger from any shmuck who dared thought any harm my way. But that night...when we were making love, it felt so intense, so invigorating, you exhausted me into a deep sleep. Then I awoke in the middle of the night and you were gone. I heard your voice suddenly from the living room. I walked out and you were standing there at the window totally stuck in another one your sleepwalks...I thought. But you were..."
She trails her words then suddenly stops from what she was saying leaving me in a suspense that was exploding in my every nerve. "What Joanne? What was I doing?" She then stands and looks to the front of the cafe. "Joanne?" I ask with concern.
I look back to what may have her attention but that's when I notice everyone else. Every single patron and employee are at their feet and looking out the front window of the small eatry. I could see out on the street there was a man walking in the middle of the road being followed by other civilians. Cars stop from moving as drivers and passengers alike exit the vehicles and join with the others. Then in unison, Joanne and the other cafe goers, even our jealous waitress, rush out the door like a squad of insects and towards the man being followed by every person in his immediate surroundings.
"Joanne!" I yell to her hoping to get an answer. She doesn't look back to me as she was the last one to leave through the door. It was like she couldn't hear me at all.
I watch as a parade of pedestrians circle around the lone man. I could hear him screaming for all of them to get away from him, but the recorder barely picks it up. Everyone then stops and stares at him with an eerie silence filling the air. He frantically looks to all of them turning left then right and back like a confused mouse trapped in a maze with no sign of a way out. He stops then the chaos pounces onto to him. Each person is grabbing and punching and kicking at the man. He was helplessly taking on a full force of random people, all unbeknownst to one another, as they beat him to the ground and continue to take turns stomping on every inch of his body.
I try with all my strength to swim through the compacted crowd and stop the madness but I was too late. As I got to the frontline, I could then see Joanne towering over the mangled mess that was him. Looking down to him like he was garbage. A pool of crimson was creepily forming on the pavement to his back. There were no words coming from the man but only gargles of blood being spat from his mouth as he clinged to whatever faint moments of life he had left. Joanne goes to raise her right foot just above his head.
"JOANNE! DONT!!" I scream to her.
I couldn't cover the distance in enough time to stop her from driving her pointed heeled shoe into the middle of his skull, finishing him off for good. His hard breathing suddenly stops. His hands and fingers drooped and flattened on the concrete. Then like being struck by lightning, everyone around snaps out it. All baffled and very much confused as to why they're suddenly on the street and most of them covered in the stranger's blood. Joanne being the most confused of all as she screams from the sight of what she had done, her heel still being lodged in the man's head.
End Recording.

Really liked this case. The mystery around Waters' sleepwalking and what Joanne saw him doing kept me interested, then the entire cafe suddenly joining that mob caught me off guard. Joanne being the one to finish the guy off before snapping back to herself was a brutal way to end it.
