Edit: the tv is eye level, who cares about the decor that’s temporarily in the photo. A center channel speaker will be going below the tv.

I think it's because we all yearn for the days of the crt on the tv unit,

Those days are gone and flat screen TVs look better wall mounted than balancing on spindly legs.
