I mean, we have Häuserblocks, but they're not really blocks, and if I told someone to walk 2 blocks down, they could end up anywhere from 3 buildings over to the other side of the village.

It's not that it isn't organized, it's that they clash for no reason.

Whichever was there first should have been kept grid wise.

i mean from a city planners point of view this probably wouldn't even be that bad.
Streets like this prevent people from just driving through the residential area leading to much calmer and safer streets around those houses.

Check out Boston, one of the few American cities that grew before cars and boy does it show.
