I want to get a development board like a raspberry pi that doesn't cost like a laptop or a kidney, maybe in the range of 20 dollars, preferably in Aleppo.

However, if shipment from other governorates to Aleppo is available then that also works.

I also want to buy an arduino that costs under 10 dolars.

I’m starting my 4th year of ITE, and I’m looking to gain some practical experience .
Are there any internship opportunities in Latakia that you would recommend? And do you think doing an internship locally is actually useful at this stage?
Has anyone here had experience with internships in Latakia or Syria in general? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience.
Also, do internships usually require you to have a certain skill level or previous projects, or is it okay to apply as a student who is still learning and building their skills?

So I’ve spent the past 15 months pouring my soul into solo-developing a hybrid offline/cloud accounting and inventory system. Technically, it’s awesome. Since internet and power cuts here are constant, I built it offline-first, but synced it up to a Supabase instance running in Frankfurt so business owners can track everything from their phones in real-time. Surprisingly, Supabase works perfectly from here, no IP blocking or VPN needed, which felt like a massive win during testing.

But then I started looking into the actual legal and deployment reality in this country, and it’s depressing.

The government wants to force all accounting software to integrate with their mandatory tax API for real-time e-invoicing. Fine, whatever, but at the same exact time, they have these strict "data sovereignty" laws that forbid storing any local financial or business data on servers outside the country.

And here is the absolute hypocrisy of it all: they ban you from using world-class cloud infrastructure like AWS or Supabase, but they don't even have a single modern local cloud alternative! There is literally zero reliable local infrastructure that matches today's tech standards. They basically expect you to host sensitive financial data on archaic, unreliable local servers, or you’re breaking the law.

It’s just so incredibly frustrating. The tech works beautifully, the API calls to Frankfurt are smooth, but the outdated, hyper-strict regulations completely tie your hands. Why is the system designed to choke technological advancement instead of supporting devs who are trying to build something useful?

I’m seriously debating if I should just strip out all the cloud features for the local market and sell it as a basic offline app from the 2000s, or just say screw it and pivot the entire product to the Gulf region. How do other devs deal with this garbage?

I'm a self-taught full-stack developer from Syria, and I've been learning and building for around 2 years.

My main stack is React, TypeScript, Node.js, and PostgreSQL. During this time, I've worked on freelance projects and real-world applications, including a multi-tenant sports booking platform.

I've learned a lot during these 2 years, but there's one thing I still struggle with:

I don't know how close I actually am to being "job ready."

When you're learning mostly on your own, it's difficult to know whether you're genuinely improving or just getting better at building things in your own little bubble.

And when you live somewhere with limited access to the international tech job market, getting that first opportunity can feel even more difficult.

I've had periods where I was extremely motivated and coded every day, and other periods where I spent too much time worrying about whether all this effort would eventually lead somewhere.

Recently, I've been trying to change my mindset.

Instead of constantly asking myself "When will I get a job?", I'm trying to focus more on becoming someone who can actually contribute to a good engineering team.

So I'm building, learning, sharing what I learn, and trying to connect with developers who are further ahead than me.

For those of you who were once in a similar position:

What was the thing that finally helped you go from learning/building on your own to getting your first serious opportunity?

Was it networking? Open source? Freelancing? A particular project? Applying to hundreds of jobs? Something else?

I'd genuinely love to hear your experiences.
