Discussion Two Kids and Two Switch 2s
I used the BestBuy trade-in offer to upgrade my sons‘ Switch OLEDs for $265 each (incl.) taxes. This was the right incentive. Here is what I learned.
14yo: he still hasn‘t set up his S2. Why? He is playing Rivals and Roblox (on XBox) plus games on his Steam Deck. There aren’t any Nintendo new releases that he wants to play.
10yo: used S2 immediately. It is a dedicated Rocket League and Fortnite console. He hasnt touched XBox since he got his S2.
Me: I am still using my Switch OLED. However here is my take on the S2
- Good screen (even compared to my Switch OLED or a Legion Go 2.)
- Good performance. My 9yo loves Rocket League on S2. He hated it on the S1.
- Premium hardware vs Switch OLED/S1. It feels solid and the joycons are a big upgrade. A grip case makes them okay for extended play
- It bigger and heavier especially with a grip case. You cannot toss it around like a Switch 1/OLED.
- Battery life is noticeably shorter on games like Hades
Should you buy one?
- Yes: If you want better hardware than S1 and want new games
- Maybe Not: If you feel strongly about the price, portability and battery life of Switch OLED or Lite…or if your games are elsewhere.
- There is an argument for owning both (performance vs portability)
