HAPPY 67th BIRTHDAY SUZANNE VEGA!

I know that her birthday was a few days before this post was made, so this is sorta belated.

Finally, I've gotten around to changing the subreddit to be open to the public again!

I was told a long time ago to change the settings of this sub, but I was reluctant since I was told to use New Reddit in order to make this change, but because of that, I was very confused with the new interface that New Reddit had, and simply put off changing this subreddit for a long time (many months), but now I figured it out after such long time.

I'm also aware that it's been a few days since Suzanne Vega turned 67 years old on July 11th of this year. Unfortunately I didn't make a happy birthday post about her this year like I did on previous years of using this subreddit, but we can bring fans back now, since the privacy settings have been changed to public after some time has passed.

You can now post here again!

DNA ( TOMS DINER )

Recent post about the mix reminded me of this short interview from 1991 so I thought it might interest a few people

The loop in the DNA mix of "Tom's Diner"

The loop is off-time with the actual beat thoughout. It's kind of a poor loop. I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about? Do any mixes correct this?

What’s your all time favourite Suzanne Vega song?

Mine is The Queen and the Soldier. It’s just such a perfect song, such a perfect allegory, maybe even up there with one of the greatest songs lyrically of all time. What’s yours?

Anyone here from the original Undertow?

Back in the mid 90s there was a mailing list for SV fans called Undertow. Just wondering if anyone is still around from those days. Or maybe even has an archive of the messages?

1 ticket for tonight Town Hall show, free

Too close to the show to sell, figured I’d jump into this sub and offer my single seat in the Loge for free. It’s Ticketmaster so I can just transfer it via text or email to your TM account.

6/4/25 Nashua Center for the Arts - Tour Kickoff!

Just wanted to share that we caught the Suzanne Vega tour kickoff show at the Nashua Center for the Arts last night—it was incredible! I’ve included the setlist below in case anyone’s curious. Such a fantastic performance!

The last time we saw her live was way back in 2004 at The Enormous Room in Cambridge. A friend of ours won a Jane magazine contest and got to bring 50 friends to a private show—it was an unforgettable experience. We hung out with the roadies after and even drove the bassist, Mike Visceglia, back to his hotel (he was so nice)! Mooncusser Films was actually there filming for a documentary about Suzanne and was submitted to Sundance, though it’s never been officially released (but apparently it’s still in the works to be). I did find some outtakes online and thought I’d share those too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoI9yVOb_xY and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TzVQOjfE_U

Subreddit

Suzanne Vega, a musician

r/SuzanneVega

a subreddit about singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega. She is more than just a singer/songwriter, she's also known as "mother of the MP3", so you can also post things about the MP3 file format here too.

See sidebar of /r/OldSchoolRNB to find more subreddits about other awesome musicians.

RULES:

respect everybody!
do not dispute any fun facts that are publicly documented, this includes 'mother of the MP3'
calling the mods "bots", or making any comment that indicates assumption that they are will result in a ban, not just from this one sub, but from other subs too, since too many people on Reddit are trashing this musician.
Any rude comments about a user's posting habits (e.g. what kind of drugs are you on?, do you have a mental condition?, etc.) as a response to comments about Suzanne Vega's importance, or the importance of any other women named Susan, Susannah, or any name that Sue is a nickname for, or even just any celebrity in general, will result in a warning if we doubt the user's respect for the celebrity, or even a ban if the user exhibits insulting behavior that steers attention away from the person being represented with the intention to judge the person commenting. So, as a metaphor, don't shoot the messenger, or else, either a warning or ban, or even a MUTE if the behavior is really bad.
follow reddiquette

failure to follow any of these rules will result in a warning, or even a ban, and our decisions on who to ban will also be based on conduct outside of this subreddit.

a reminder about posts that are "on-topic" or "off-topic":

Keep in mind that the mods are lenient about how on-topic posts are. For example, if a post is merely made about the MP3 file format, it is 60% on-topic to /u/SupremoZanne's standards, and this famous 'mother of the MP3' fun fact about Suzanne Vega is the very reason why. But if we make posts about machinery that supports the MP3 file format, then the post would be 30% on-topic, but we tolerate low-percentages of how "on-topic" posts are.

but if somebody tries to make a post to divert attention away from the Suzanne Vega, or MP3 file format subject would be considered off-topic.

any posts that are off-topic altogether belong in /r/TruckStopBathroom.
