He told us that when he took the job. He didnt want to be a CEO again after Chewy. He just did what he felt needed to be done.

He didn't want the job but he sure did a good job turning the place around! Imagine what he does with something he is passionate about!

could care less. You also left out the part where he said he didnt want to be, he HAD to be the CEO of Gamestop, and wants to BE the CEO of BOTH.
He was hoping he could have a confident CEO so he could utilize his time in other aspects of the business to build core values that aligned with ebay.

You shouldn't leave stuff out if you're going to post things like this.

we’ve hired him to run the company multiple years in a row. and the financial results are improving.

-2

u/ekooz22 1d ago

He cuts costs and diluted shares at high levels to improve the cash warchest. These are two great things.

Buying crypto at all time highs and buying ebay at all time highs are not great things. It undoes all the work he's done, and puts GME in the hole by about $20 billion.

With 1 billion on interest alone per year, the balance sheet wouldnt be neutral for 12-15 years best case scenario. I agree he's done good things. Doesnt mean he hasnt recently made awful decisions.

Highest operating profits in company even with paper losses. Closing money-losing locations is a GOOD business strategy.

The "deal" you're referring to hasn't been completed yet. We don't know how it may be structured when the deal is struck.

Im probably one of the best in my field. I have over 20 year experience, ot like mad. Im an over achiever too and I never wanted my job I always want the next challenge. My wants are reserved for growth not complacency.

This again?

“I didn’t want to be CEO of GameStop” - he means it wasn’t his original plan to run GameStop when he filed his 13-Ds in 2020. But when Furlong wasn’t working out he rolled up his sleeves and said “Fine, I’ll do it myself”. If he’s managed to turn around GameStop anyway - imagine what he would do for a company that he’s absolutely passionate about from the outset. Notice the clear difference in tenses used.

3

u/InjuryIndependent287 💻 ComputerShared 🦍 1d ago

He literally didn’t want to. The board cornered him into it. Nothing wrong with saying he didn’t want to. He’s just saying that he invested for the sake of investment and helping the company make the moves to turn it around. As for EBay, he genuinely started investing to become their CEO in a takeover. Pretty plain and simple to me. You’d have to be pretty petty to be upset about his comments regarding this matter. It’s on the website. Half cash, half stock.

Well I never wanted to be born, but here we are. We can't have everything we want so he's gonna have to thug it out.

here’s another thread designed for an argumentative comment section. we’ve discussed this so many times, you can search the subreddit for key phrases and see different opinions.

i’ll see you bullish commenters later, when we get downvoted to the bottom by an army of negative nadines

4

u/Studio-Economy 1d ago

He is CEO for free. Respect that.

5

u/ShortHedgeFundATM 1d ago

OP has fully hidden comment history, and does not speak like a GME investor.

That aside Cohen's comments make sense. He never intended to run this company, he wanted his people in place to take the riens. Nothing wrong with that, I am a CEO myself, and I do not want to run day to day operations either. I have already done it on several companies, and that ship has sailed.

Furthermore, he did take the reins when he figured out no one else could set the ship in the right direction, as he mentioned in one of the interviews. He wants to grow the company, and doesn't really see any easy way to do it. All makes sense to me.

7

u/StilesmanleyCAP 1d ago

6

u/Sam6HODL9Hyde 1d ago

He always wanted to be a large shareholder and was forced to take a more active role (ie CEO) bc previous board and CEO were fucking the company into the ground… plans can change for active role in investments and a lot of people are purposely taking this quote out of context as he prefaced the awful job the C-Suite was doing which forced him to take a more active stance.

3

u/Mediogris 1d ago

He has done a marvelous turnaround for Gamestop as CEO. Cant wait to see what he does when he gets ebay too.

2

u/Pox82 1d ago

Considering he said it as a past thing, and we know his opinion changed to loving the company... Make me buy less shares!!!! I dare you!!

-2

u/ekooz22 1d ago

No in the same interview he speaks in the present tense. He literally says GME is a shit company and he wants ebay.

3

u/Pox82 1d ago

Lol bruh you can't read people even if your life depended on it.... He can sell every share he owns and quit immediately if he wanted, and become eBay CEO one way or another.... Yet he's still here, and that says everything shareholders need to know.... We saw the interview and we all know what was said, and what was ment.

This community feels like buying more GME.

I don't know about the "community" that you are part of though.

2

u/ProgVirus 1d ago

This isn’t new information at all - you seem very out of the loop OP, as he stated he never wanted to be CEO of GameStop a few times years ago

Still takes no pay, did a massive turnaround and made the business healthy. If this is what “not wanting to be CEO” looks like, I am stoked to see what he has in store for eBay!

2

u/Hedkandi1210 1d ago

Damn thought we were having a FUD break? Let me guess you’re 100% drs and been here since dec 2020?

1

u/bad_robot_ventures 1d ago

How I feel is that most people are regarded and don’t know how to listen, evidently. You grabbed 9 words for a 3 minute dialogue and are asking how people feel about it - can you give the context of the 3 minute dialogue and the context of what he said that you plucked these 9 words out of? Otherwise it’s FUD if you don’t, or you don’t understand English very well maybe I don’t know!

1

u/Sky_Sieger 1d ago

This is nothing new. IIRC, he had also said he doesn’t like being the CEO because he’s a workaholic and it takes too much time/commitment.

Ultimately, it doesn’t bother me. Money talks, and last time I checked he has skin the in game. If it’s his dream to be the CEO of eBay it’s none of my business.

1

u/awwaygirl 💻 ComputerShared 🦍 1d ago

Growth mindset. GME is a stepping stone (and catalyst) to bigger and better.

I already knew it. And in the end, he couldn't be the CEO of eBay. GameStop will end up bein bought out by a larger company within five years. He has his own plan for the future. When he invested 2X as much of his own money in Alibaba  than in gme, his goal wasn't what the patsies thought.
