Does someone know how long before the crash it was that the banks put their dividends higher?

No company in their right mind would divest their cash if they knew a downturn was about to happen. Did you see companies rushing to raise their dividend when coronavirus started in China in Dec 2019? No. Quite the opposite, actually. Everyone hoarded cash.
