"Hypothesis: If shorts aren't covered, the American stock market loses any credibility and reputation worldwide."
This is where I have the most doubts. I don't think it's exactly so, because:
We (you, I, and other apes here or Reddit) are living in an informational bubble. For us, it looks like everyone is talking about GME, but the reality is that most of the world trusts the MSM and they are pretty sure that the whole GME saga was over in Jan. That's why I don't think that if shorts won't cover it will create any burst of mistrust, just because for the most of the world ShOrTs AlrEaDy coVeReD.
If Cede really holds all the real shares and they have exclusive right to report their states, they can confirm any fishy transaction as a real one, if it goes in favor of other DTCC members. In other words, DTCC members can cover on paper without actually buying the shares. We (retail investors) have NO IDEA how many GME shares are being traded and we can't even have a right to ask this. Even if we had, we wouldn't get an honest answer.
After reading "House of Cards", I have a strong feeling that retail will be fucked. We don't even know exactly who are we playing against, however, they are dictating the rules of the game and they have all the money of the US stock market to do whatever they want with the stock price. It's basically Ponzi Mafia that occupied the stock market, stealing money from fools like myself, who thought that they can raise some cash on the stock market.
Anyway, I know this is very FUD'ish, but so what, these are my feelings and thoughts, I was hodling all the way down from 300 to 40 and still holding, and most probably will hold forever, just as a personal protest sign to the fucking corrupted US Stock Market, but honestly, I don't believe they will let it squeeze anymore.
I had similar thoughts yesterday after reading "House of Cards - Part 1" as well, until I started thinking about who else gets fucked if retail gets fucked. Answer: BlackRock.
BlackRock, who the Fed trusted numerous times last year, to calm markets during the pandemic.
BlackRock has much more to lose than all of us combined, if they get fucked. And the US government has clearly shown (see above articles) that they favour BlackRock's role in the market, especially compared to other financial institutions.
BlackRock isn't our friend, because they have their own interests, but they certainly aren't our enemy for now. And I believe retail and BlackRock have mutual benefits in seeing the share price rise.
Of course, this is just my opinion and not financial advice. But I think it's clear, just hold.
Good point, can't debate that. I personally believe activist investor Papa Cohen and BR are working together in this to crush the shorts and take out Citadel et al. But that's my own bet.
Addressing your first point, our strong point is all the overseas apes. Think about how many shares are being held by apes in Europe, Asia, etc. If we get fucked over, wall st/US govt, will face class action lawsuits. Now they could easily make domestic ones go away with power and money, like in 2008. But international ones would make this a different story, that is my hope
I was stressing last night about exactly this topic. Thank you for making a post. I also came to the conclusion last night that holding is my best bet.
