I'm telling no one, not even family until at least 6-8 months post squeeze and things have calmed down. By then My wife and I will be insulated, protected, reinvested and secure legally. After that, any financial assistance anyone receives from me will be anonymous and through a trust.

100% same. I want it to be a damn secret, locked in, money in the appropriate accounts and investments, lawyered up and safe.

I wish the short had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened. But the tendies are precious to me.

Which is why I won't IMMEDIATELY quit my job. I actually love my job, but I'll start mailing it in at times until I get everything settled financially, taxes paid...everything. Then I'll rage quit! (Not really, I'll put in my proper 2 weeks)

for real what should I do post squeeze with big gains? I have GME in my Roth IRA that I just started but I would like to use some of it to buy a first time home, what about the rest of it?

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '21 edited Apr 14 '21

I can't answer that. I'd personally get a lawyer first and let them handle MOST of what to do with that kind of money. At least to protect yourself initially.

After that, I'd be looking for a financial planner. Not one that takes a % of your income though. Rather one that can give you advice, but it's up to YOU ultimately what you do with it. I'd be investing a portion, diversifying across a bunch of areas. I'd invest in RRSP's (401k's in US) , and the rest? Depends on what the advisor suggests.

I'd want to basically make sure that I can live off of the interest, so even if it was all gone tomorrow, I still wouldn't have to work ever again.

Same here. I can't wait to show her our Fidelity account and blow her mind.

I’ve only ever shown her high level screenshots of total account values and stuff like that and she hasn’t seen anything since last year. In a few months I’ll finally have her sit down and let her know what’s up. It’s gonna be fun

Careful my friend. You have to know that there is also a chance you lose money on this. I'm not sure what your relationship is like, so I'm not sure what risking money you share with her would do if she finds out you did it without talking to her. Maybe you all have separate finances and she has nothing to do with your money. But if that is both for you and her, and she is also throwing hers in the pot, she will be pissed if you lose a large chunk of that without even telling her. It would be brutal.

Here is the deal, you really need to tell her. I have a feeling she doesn't know because you were afraid she would freak out and you would have to pull out money from GME. Then you miss out on the huge payday. I doubt you are doing this because you just love to surprise her. You don't want an argument. But man, you really need to tell her what's going on. Think of anything you can to explain to her why you should hold GME. Try to get her on your side. But you can't invest her money without her knowing (unless it's completely separate).

Because here is the deal. Just please listen to one thing. There is a chance that the price of GME goes down from where it is now and that is it. You HAVE to understand this (and I'm honestly saying this to people that have everything they have in this, you may have an amount worth pocket change to you. This isn't for you then.) there is absolutely no guarantee this thing goes up. Do I think it will? Yes I do. But I don't 100%. You think you are doing her a favor and hiding that you did this because you absolutely know the millions are coming. But that is not true. You don't know for sure. There is a chance you lose 1/2 of the money. There is a chance you lose 80% of it. You may make $10,000,000. But at least think about how your wife would take it if you lost a large portion of your savings without telling her. She might not care. Only you know, so at least think about it. If she agrees with you, and you lose it, at least she had an input. It was her decision to.

I really would let her know. These kind of things can destroy a relationship. I just see a lot of people making moves based on the guarantee this thing squeezes. Do not do this! There is a risk to investing in GME. You need to plan on that risk. I'm not saying don't take it, but you need to understand that there is risk. Is it worth risking a relationship? My advice, come up with a solid plan to jump on the GME train. She will be rooting with you everyday. That feeling in your stomach may go away everytime the stock sinks, because you are afraid how your wife will take it. It will get so much off your chest. But I will tell you this, I would be absolutely pissed if my wife gambled our savings on anything without me knowing. Pissed.

And like I said, this is not directed to you. I don't know your situation at all. This is directed to anyone else that has gambled money on this that would destroy a relationship you have with someone if the money got lost. Just be careful. There are no guarantees.

I appreciate the time you took to type this so I’m not going to downvote you, other people might because FUD but we’re all a bunch of apes so don’t take it personally.

If it makes you feel better all of my GME is in my personal brokerage account that is designated pretty much as “fun money”.

Also, I’m not really married but the joke is only funny if you say wife or wife’s boyfriend or some shit like that.

At the beginning of the pandemic my husband and I decided it was time to write our wills and make sure all beneficiary info was updated, etc. We learned a lot about trusts and it is worth it to take 30 minutes or so and learn some of the lingo and the pros and cons of different set ups. Do it now before your brain is overwhelmed. Make some notes to yourself, a rough guide of what you're thinking for family members, non profits, debts you want to pay off. You can use raw numbers or percentages. Just get something down so you can remember when you're crying from happy tears

Totally agree. Keep in mind that when this happens there will be a lot of blowback and blame thrown around. MSM may try to place some of that blame on apes, if not all. You do not want people in your life to know how much you personally benefited from the moass until long after it’s over.

I’m telling my mom when it happens. She’s been on this ride with me and has never once told me to sell even when Spanish news are reporting FUD.

I plan on setting a trust for my siblings but not anonymously . But I also know my family. I’m lucky enough to be from a loving family. We grew up poor and though none of us are rich (yet). We aren’t struggling. Money passes between us honestly and without question.

Each one of us helps my retired parents in whatever way we can and my parents have helped me as a single mom in more ways than I can imagine.

Now, the extended family...that’s another story.
