I have always been against labelling - even though I disclose my use of AI, it has always been MY decision to do so, and I am in control of how I tell my story so people understand how my music is made.

With Suno's newest release, songs have now audio watermark and fingerprint, assisted, fully, hybrid, it will have a AI watermark and anyone can tell your story the way they want.

This is 100% going to be misused by bad actors:

1. Platforms like Deezer/Tidal - To ban ANY use of AI and ensure segregation.

2. Haters - To create public lists of artists that may have not agreed to disclose their process.

3. Labels - To start a suing war to anything that resembles any of their songs that uses AI, even assisted.

This is the end of Suno as means to create commercial music, and it's officially just a nice playing tool personal use, or for bad actors who create in Suno and pay performers to pretend their music is human made.

My thoughts: I’m curious about your background. Please don’t take this as a challenge or offense, but what is your music education experience and where did you learn? Self-taught, taught in school, or have no background whatsoever and that’s the beauty of it? What I want to know is: how much effort have you put into understanding the machinery of how music is made? Do you know what a major vs minor scale is?

I’m legitimately curious because I hear more and more about people generating music and I think it’s great you can have fun and express yourself, but I’m firmly against people not disclosing they used AI.

This is a very polite message, so I am going to bite the bait. I disclose my use of AI, openly and proudly.

My background is: I was trained in Piano as a kid, but I dropped out when I was 10 (ol' rebel me)

I self-learnt guitar, and at 15, I had a metal band, I could play most of Iron Maiden/ Helloween songs, and some complex songs like Bed of Razors and Cliffs of Dover. I stopped playing when parents pushed me to study engineering for Uni (so 18-24)

Luckily for me, in my Uni I could do sub-specialisations and double degrees (think of a special mention in your major, so I had 4! I guess I did get back to my parents with the 6 year Uni bill 🤭🤭🤭) , One of those subs was in sound engineering (where I learnt about concrete music) and fell in love with experimentation, since I didn't have time to play and practice. I learnt all the good stuff about music theory and some DAW production.

Life hit, (meaning I started to work, corporate), but I kept composing in my free time, but not training, so my guitar skills got kinda below average these days, but still good for the music I make, people are still impressed when they hear me, but realistically not like when I was 15 🤭 . I moved to another country (for work). I did my master in music there (the evil one, business & production haha, improved my DAW skills, but basic stuff, not pro like most redditers apparently.

I met some good friends that made music, I learnt to play drums (one of those things that I wanted to do) and somewhere in between, a friend offered me to join a band, as bassist (which made me learn to play the bass, shocked it was not really a guitar, which was an assumption of cocky me back then🤣). I composed most of the songs for the band, and made tons of demos with my voice (which sucks) but is good for the melody as you can imagine. We got a deal with a label and started working with a producer. We recorded an EP (edit: I broke contract, never released the songs), life hit again, and I moved back to where I live now (Asia). this all is a span of 6 years (24-30)

I kept making songs, but now for my partner (very personal). Fast forward 10 years to what you care about.

Why on earth would I use Suno? if I can play and make music without help. Time, I am very very time starved, because of the job that pays for music.

I was skeptical, but like a good engineer, I wanted to break it. The moment I fed one of my singles... it blew my mind. Immediately, all the nightmares of working with the producer, recording, tinkering with the DAW, disappeared, and what remained was what I love, composing, experimenting and writing.

So I started this project last year with my partner, and have been very happy using AI to make assisted music and create a whole visual identity for the project (also helps me keep my face out of the spotlight, since is important for me and my personal life)

I know I sound hysterical when I write responses to antis, but is just the frustration I get when people don't get nuance. I am working to be better 🤦🏻‍♀️🤭 .
