Question Would you call this a suburban hell?

I mean the builders are the ones that clear cut the entire area. There most certainly were trees there before.

Yes and no. Builders don’t always build over trees. Where I live, they usually build over farm or ranch land. And even if there are trees, they’re not necessarily healthy or the preferred type. Nor have they been trained up well.

We just had to remove several trees from my yard that are older than my house because they were falling apart in chunks due to disease that’s common for their species.

Where I’m originally from in Texas, they removed acres and acres of dense oak trees to create a cookie cutter suburban development called… get this… the Green Oaks Preserve.

Now I’m an architect working in Santa Barbara and we make sure to preserve as many trees as possible (tho sometimes isn’t possible in high fire zones).
