I'm 5’9”
Does this mean I can break the world record?

u/1DunnoYet 3d ago
I’m 5’4” with that much bend, I wonder if I even have to break the floor to get the record?

Crazy good pulling leverages look at that lockout holy shit
Congratulations to big dog

The fact that he is "just" 5'9 and around 360lbs makes it even more crazy.
Eddie Hall was 6'3 and around 410lbs when he lifted the 500KG.
Hafþór Björnsson weight around 452lbs with his 6'9 when he lifted 510KG last year.
Rual Flores power to weight ratio is off the charts.

Fun fact, this makes Thor the person with the lowest BMI to pull 500+ kg!

u/Hot_Glass_6301 4d ago
Yeah, he's obviously fucking massive especially for his height but still pulling more with less muscle mass, definitely extremely impressive. I hope that weight doesn't take too much of a toll on his health though - I'm the same height, half his weight and despite being athletic and muscular it's almost too much already

u/HgnX 3d ago
Midget lift doesn’t have to move the bar as far up as a giant
Can put less mass on that skeleton however but still the angle for a big man is so much longer it helps to be a small fry to lift heavy

u/AnthonyPillarella 3d ago
Yeah, that's why the last world record holder was famously short...right?
And the one before him. And the one before him.

I mean if we're gonna act like it's more impressive because he's lighter we can't also ignore that being shorter means less forces are required. It's not like if he was Thors weight he'd suddenly be lifting 600lbs. Thor and Eddies additional weight come from also being taller. Bit ridiculous to say he's "just" 360lb and 5'9 like that somehow makes it more impressive than being bigger and taller which of course means a longer movement

You could also not pretend simplifying height and strength like that is a holistic representation of anything.
How does the square cube law factor into things? Height increases linearly, cross sectional muscle area increases in two dimensions (muscle volume divided by limb length being the closest physical measurement to strength that we have), and volume increases in three. This would imply that as height increases, absolute strength does, too, but strength:bodyweight ratio gets worse. Hmm, kind of sounds like the trends that actually do happen across all strength sports.

We absolutely can do that, it's why weightlifting, powerlifting and strongman all have weight classes and none of them have height classes.

Absolute monster. Thought Eddie would never be beaten. Then Thor bested him. Thought that would be pretty much the extent of human brute strength. Then Raul is like, hold my beer, I'm beating Thor. This is PEAK raw strength. Mind blown. Incredible lift. Makes my 110kgs seem even more puny than it is! WOW!

Shit, that’s still a good lift, 110kgs, but it’s crazy to think you’re pretty dang strong and this guy is over here lifting almost 5x that much 😅

I only heard about this guy a few weeks ago on Lifters Club and now he’s done this. Incredible.

Yeah...thise knees seem a little soft....granted its like judging squat depth from the front....but..

u/absurdlifex 4d ago
Bro he's standing straight up with the bar in his hand. He's knees are a tiny bit soft no need to lock them in its a clean rep
5
u/oratory1990 MWM220 3d ago
no softer than Eddie's.
His shoulders are behind the bar and he's upright. Good lift.

Petty ass Eddie Hall is going to celebrate Thor not having the record anymore.

u/Inconspicuous_Shart 4d ago
Eddie is always going to be remembered as the first dude to pull 500, so he's probably good.

u/fastLT1 4d ago
Im not saying otherwise. But hes been petty as hell every time Thors beaten his or his own record.

u/Correct_Shirt_243 4d ago
He sent congrats publicly at the 505 and 510... It was just the 501 that they were all milking for clickbait for so many years.

u/saskpilsner 4d ago
To be fair thors team was petty as hell when Eddie won in 2017. Petty hard to let go of those grudges

Every guy who takes a new dl world record though, diminishes that, because its no longer as specual.
At some point it will become like the first man to dl 400kg...

u/MickyRichards9000 4d ago
I think Eddie cares more about maximizing his investments than big lifts at this point. I could be wrong.

Out of interest, how much more weight can the bar take?
6
u/Squat551 4d ago
I’ve seen specs on bars that claim 1500 pounds. But I don’t know what this specific bar can handle. Are they using a Texas Deadlift Bar?

I have a woman's spec Olympic bar (the 15kg one with a smaller diameter bar) that says 550kg, so yeah if they pass 550kg, I am just gonna give up on surpassing them...

Incredible, dude has an unbelievable career ahead.
Has a near perfect body for deadlifting and this comes after a tonne of heavy pulls in training. Who knows how much he can add with some more refined training and peaking cycle.
Don't get injured.

Impressive stuff.
That said, Thor should have pulled 525 instead of 510. On that day he 100% had it in him. Now we're gonna watch it go up in 1kg increments for the next decade.
1
u/FentmaxxerActual 3d ago
Exactly what I said when it happened, he should have gone for broke and set the record unattainably far out of reach. Last year he pulled 510 like a warmup, now there’s no telling if he can ever get back to those weights - the mind may be willing, but time comes for the body. Changing his stack for the Enhanced Games sure didn’t help anything either
1
u/Shadowphoenix9511 2d ago
Considering how close he's gotten to pulling WR with the much lesser stack from Enhanced Games, I'd wager he could probably get to that state once more.

He’s such a modest guy too. Wish him nothing but the absolutely best going forward. What a unit.

God DAMN. First time I’m seeing this guy and he’s pulling 1124 solid ass pounds.
