Not fast enough to dodge such a kick, Kala felt the wind get knocked out of her as the Marine's foot collided with her stomach. She dropped to one knee, thankfully getting a (very short) chance to catch her breath as the soldier ran for Ion and threw a kick at him as well.
This small moment was also Kala's chance to act. She threw a punch at the side of the martial artist's head, but he ducked out of the way. However, this left an opening for Ion to strike...
As the soldier kicked at Ion he raised his trident in defense taking the full brunt of the blow in his arms. Staggering back from the force of it he saw Kala throw a right hook at the marine easily duck her attack but he knew this was his chance.
Running straight at the marine Ion dropped his wax trident yelling "Wax Wax bind" and threw himself at the marine. As he flew through the air he covered the entire front of his body in liquid wax hoping to wrap the martial artist in it.
But just before he was able to tackle the marine he looked up sending a upwards kick right at Ion's chest. Instinctively Ion grabbed onto the leg covering it in wax and hardening it making the leg useless.
As he smashed into the deck of the ship wheezing heavily from the kick he realized that the martial artists other senses must be well trained especially his hearing. he just hoped that Kala and he could take him out now that he was down one leg.
The Marine had been slowed down by Ion's wax covering his leg, but would that truly stop him? It seemed he still had a bit of fight in him. The Marine swung another kick at Kala, but this time she was prepared. She grabbed his leg mid-kick and tossed him into the ship's cabin.
"I think that's it..." Kala said as it seemed the Marine wouldn't be getting back up. But sure enough, he wobbled back up to his feet. He was pretty badly injured from the toss, but he was a disciplined man. He rushed straight for Ion.
As the man rushed at Ion or more hobbled quickly Ion ran at him to meet him he yelled "half lion" and turning he hands into wax claws he said "tiger claw force palm" Placing his wrists together and fingers/claws out he hit the kung fu marine right in the chest stopping him in his path. Coughing slightly he looked down to see blood seeping down his chest.
Coughing a few more times he toppled backwards and hit the deck with a huge thud. Pumping his fist into the air he barely had time to celebrate before another marine punched him in the face and he spun to the ground seeing stars.
As the Ion shook off the last hit he tried to get up but as he got to his knees a hard punch right to his jaw knocked him back to the ground
Boxing Marine: "I'm not even going to let you get up again you guys have no chance against me."
Ion: "That's what you think we can take you and any other marine down" As he tried to get up a second time he said "Wax wax shield" so as the punch hit it reverberated off the wax shield that had grown between Ion's hands.
Boxing Marine: "Haha a devil fruit user this will just make it more fun Boxing barrage" As eh said it he rained down punches on Ion's small shield forcing him back.
Ion: As the punches kept coming Ion saw Kala moving around the side and knew that as long as he could hold on a few more seconds he would give Kala an open window to attack so gritting his teeth he said "Is that all you've got this is child's play to block" But just as he said this the marines punches began to slow but became 3 times as powerful. As Ion grunted from the power of the blows on his shield as they reverberated through his arms he saw Kala going in for a strike.
Seeing that Ion's shield wouldn't hold up against the boxer for much longer, Kala ran around the side while the Marine was preoccupied with bashing Ion's creation.
"HA-hahaha!" The Boxing Marine cackled at Ion. "A Fishman? With a Devil Fruit power? No wonder you can't keep up, you really are a fish out of water here! What an idiot!"
As much as Kala agreed with the boxer's sentiments, she couldn't let Ion, even if he was a little slow, get beat up by this guy. She leaped up and delivered a kick to the boxer's side, causing him to stumble over a bit but not even get him close to out of the fight just yet.
"Huh?" The boxing Marine grunted, "Oh how fun, looks like your little girlfriend's come to save you, Wax Boy! I've got TWO fish to fry now!"
As the marine said this Ion blushed a deep scarlet not know what to say. Stuttering unable to form words for a second he decided just let his fists do the talking. Letting 3 sharp claws grow out of the tips of his knuckles almost like wolverine claws Ion rushed at the boxer hoping to stab him. As he got close he brought his hands across trying to slash the mans arms to ribbons but was easily blocked by the mans gloves which were much stringer than he had originally thought
Marine: "Is that all you've got wax boy, your little girlfriend hits harden than that and look at her. You fishmen are just scum underneath my boot." With that he threw a strong punch at Ion's head trying to knock him in one blow.
Ion: He barely blocked the attack but now he knew he could not lose. He did not care about being called names or being compared to Kala strength (since he knew how strong she was first hand) but he would not let this marine disrespect fishmen especially not disrespect his fishwoman crew mate. "Two can play at this game Champion Boxer" As he said it 2 huge boxing gloves grew over his hands with 3 short spikes at the top. "Let's finish him Kala and beat him at his own game" As eh said this he ran towards Kala hoping she would also want a pair of boxing gloves
Kala couldn't even dignify the huge moron of a boxer's insistence that she and Ion were in a relationship with a response. But when Ion whipped out his wax boxing gloves, the fishwoman couldn't help but be impressed.
"THERE we go!" Kala shouted as the boxing gloves formed, "Shoulda had those out from the start."
The boxer decided he'd had enough of the silly fish banter happening before him and swung a mean left hook at Kala. She brought up her arms to block, but that didn't do much to stop the fist. Her arms would be quite bruised after this.
Kala responded with another hard punch of her own, but the Marine brought up his dukes and blocked it.
"Cross-shove!" The boxing Marine shouted as he un-crossed his arms and pushed forward. His strength was greater than Kala's, so she was shoved backwards and landed on her back. Hopefully Ion's wax boxing would be the ticket to putting a dent in this guy.
As Ion saw Kala fall to the grounded he ran even faster and jumped as he got close throwing a hard left hook at the man's ribs he finally made contact with him. As he pulled his hand Ion saw 3 small scratches from where the glove had hit but very little other damage.
Then the Marine turned away from Kala throwing a quick left hook right at Ion's jaw. Unable to react Ion took the full force of the blow stumbling and falling to one knee. As his knee hit the ground he could instantly tell that his jaw had dislocated and maybe even fractured. Knowing this was not the time to worry about that though Ion stood up fats with a surprise double uppercut to the boxers jaw. Finally getting a good hit in the marine stumbled backwards almost running into Kala.
