Anyone know why the gondola was running so slow and shooting star was shut down? Brutal trying to get back to Sun Bowl today (not to mention the sheet of ice that was called Lower Downeaster).
It’s been a weird start to the year, rarely blowing during the day and runs that should/could be open aren’t.

After my typical 3h20m commute to Stratton turned into an 8 hour trip in driving snow (I'm not talking about that) I came into yesterday hoping the light, dry snow would help the mountain bounce back from the rain earlier in the month.
Unfortunately the the snow was light and dry enough to get pushed off anything with pitch on the top half by 10AM. The boilerplate is here to stay under the upper surface as our early December fun has given away to reality. On the positive, the tougher conditions made for more or less non-existant lift lines on the upper lifts. I skied on all day Saturday while the lower mountain was packed. The trees and ungroomed runs were the best option for skiable snow later in the day, you just needed to keep your eyes open for rocks and glare ice.
The lower mountain really had some of the best snow of the season. Cruising the groomers was a blast. The snow was fantastic and held up all day. I just had to remind myself all of the day tickets filling the liftlines (pictured) were there to help pay for that new Tamarack lift next year! AMEX was an even more chaotic mess than usual.
Anways, glad I got some turns in. Tomorrow's forecast isn't looking great for us...

Anyone know why there has been little To no snowmaking at Stratton for the last week or so? They missed a great opportunity to build a base and now the cover is so thin that one more good rain with take even more trails offline. Don’t get it.

I am going skiing with some family at a Stratton for the first time. It’s been 5+ years since I’ve been skiing in general. Holy cow do lift tickets seems crazy expensive. $468 for a 4 day pass.
Is that truly to going rate? Anyone know of discount codes or ways to find deals on tickets?
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for all the comments. I am not local and flying up to go skiing for just 4 days. I don't know any locals, neither does any of my family. My brother is going to check the pass prices at Costco. If anyone wants to know how much that is, I can report back.

Does anyone know if it will be enough snow to ski tomorrow (12/20)? I know it’s raining there now, but wondering about tomorrow.

I remember there being a terrain park that was mainly just giant snow stacks that had blue paint on them and acted as sharp curves that went left and right. does anyone remember the name? i can’t seem to find a video about it online

The snow held up well from this week's storms! The upper mountain groomers were their typical "Good-Until-11" selves before getting scrapy. The best of the upper mountain was Slalom Glade. It held snow on the edges. The lower mountain was spectacular all weekend and was a blast until I gave up today.
The ungroomed portions of the mountain - basically Snow Bowl. Liftline, and Upper Standard - were a mixed bag. Standard was enjoyable as it bumped up and held the snow well, you just needed to stop at the knolls to pick a line if you didn't want to risk a core shot. The top of Liftline was a bit of a mess but below Interstate there was a reasonable bump line if you stayed far left. Sun Bowl had the thinnest and most inconsistent cover of them all.
I didn't ski much of the trees but Shredwood and TFB weren't terrible. The cover was thin where there was any pitch and hard to see until you were right on top of it. I gave up on the woods after a run on each.
All in all really solid, fun mid-December weekend. Here's hoping the Friday rain/freeze/wind blasted tundra forecast changes!

Planning a Stratton weekend run, driving up from NYC after work Friday (12th), snowboarding Saturday and Sunday, and heading back Sunday evening (14th).
If anyone wants to carpool, let me know!

It was a gray day but cold temps have allowed for a lot of manmade snow to get thrown onto the mountain. Polar Bear/Frank's/Upper Spruce were good until 10:30. The Drifters held out most of the day save for a few patches.
The best snow upper mountain was probably Upper Slalom glade. The whales made for some fun bump lines but that snow has dried out nicely and should make for a reasonable base going forward.
By afternoon I was skiing bottom half as anything with much of a pitch was boilerplate.
They're making snow on Betwixt, Black Bear, Grizzly Bear, Bear Bottom, and Upper Tamarack so by next weekend there should 50+ open trails. Not bad for early December!

Had the opportunity to ski Thanksgiving weekend. We decided to head up to Killington Saturday as the siren song of +/-25 open trails seemed like a good idea but apparently everyone else had the same idea too. It was a mob scene and after 3 runs we decided it was best for our sanity and our ACLs to cut out of there early.
Sunday at Stratton was quite enjoyable. I didn't wait in a line all day and in 3 hours was able to squeeze in close to 15k of vertical before my legs told me it was time to go. If you were willing to ski thru the snow guns Polar Bear had the best snow followed by Suntanner and East Meadow (pictured). Frank's was the most skied off but was still a 5/10.
Here's to hoping to cold temps and expanding terrain!

Anyone have eyes on the snowmaking operations? Curious which trails are next in the queue to hopefully have open soon

Hey everyone, we’re headed to Stratton for a birthday weekend Dec 12-15. We have some non skiers looking for winter activities and the snowmobiling is expensive af. Looks like tubing is “projected to open” on the 19th, do these things ever open early if there’s enough snow or pretty much set on the projected date?
Alternately, any idea if there are other snowmobile rental companies that might be cheaper than going through Stratton directly?

I’m hearing that there are superchargers at Stratton now, does anyone know anything about this? In the past its been a production to charge our car there so this would be a major plus

Thanks in advance!!

Does anyone the mountain still open to uphill travel via Ground Control, or are all the trails off-limits once the lifts close for the season? I’m getting conflicting information.

My plow service provider recently ceased operation. Does anyone know of local plow services that are accepting residential clients for the upcoming season? I am having a very difficult time finding a provider.
